But the virus doesn't know that.

thats why as i think i have mentioned before that if you need to wear masks then cruising is not safe to cruise but life needs to go on and we cant continue living with all these restrictions

So my thoughts are if  the rest of the industries are getting back up and running ie hospitality etc without masks then cruises should be able to as well.  I adhere to what is required with social distancing and hand washing and i do think that is enough to be able to live life and enjoy

After Pullmantur, comes another casualty.  This time it's the Swedish cruise line Birka Cruises.  Granted, these two were small cruise lines but the idea that they could only last for 3 1/2 months without revenue is a scary thing for the industry.

i dont know either of those cruise lines but it is sad to here businesses going out of business

Some of us like Vision class. Why you feel it is a win/win for those of us who like variety?

royal will be looking to move some of their ships cos they have excess and they wont get rid of their newest one or bigger ships.

i like both the big and small ships however as there are more things to do on the bigger newer ships those are my favourtie

I never thought the Windjammer was a mess before. And plenty of people agree with me. Those who don't like it have other dining options to choose from.

    fully agree

the ships have loads of choices to suit everyone

the windjammer imo serves awesome food and great variety

    What is not to like.

mdr is definetely not as good as before cos they want people to pay for the speciality restaurants where you will get the quality of dining experience that used to go with MDR in Royal Caribean but again that is a choice for people to make

    everyone is happy

My expert* opinion: If it’s safe enough to cruise, it’s safe enough to buffet. And if it’s not safe enough to buffet, it’s not safe enough to cruise.

    * My medical expertise consists of going to the doctor every now and then and watching a few episodes of Trapper John MD. Enough to comment on the internet. Probably not enough to set public policy.

absolutely. if safe to cruise everything onboard is available

i love the buffet. much prefer this to mdr. i usually go to mdr once or twice but more an more i prefer the windjammer - loads of choice and tasty food

I do not believe modern cruise ships have the capacity to have everyone eat in the MDR without having a buffet.  I may be wrong since this is just an opinion.  I am certain that what we have experienced with Noro will lead the way for the future.  I would love to see something like this from the 50's as a new venue!

    automats.jpg

i agree - there  needs to be buffet.

i love the 50's theme diner - johnny rockets is good but i have seen it decline in their service. but 50s theme diner for buffet etc i would love

Who knows, this might be the foundation of future consolidation.  Royal Norwegian International?

    awesome

royal and norweigan is who we choose to cruise with

as long as there was mixture of both as i think they have both got differet advantages and disadvantages

but lets hope they are both able to survive this

  8. Firstly i will be so sad if cruising is over

Cruising has it all - for us as a family

Entertainment for my husband and i (and our daughter when she is not meeting new people at the teen club)

Loads of things to do for our teen daughter - during the day by the pool, some of the club entertainment, at sea fun days

Loads of restaurants to choose with loads of variery

    The shows and entertainment

    The drinks at bar/lounges

    Music venues

Freedom to do whatever suits everyday /night

Being on the ocean - the views and just sailing

Getting to different places if you want to get off the ship

    Meeting loads of new people

We dont go to casino much but i do go at least once

Where else would you get all that plus more in the one holiday.Absolutely no where so i know we would struggle at first to see what we wanted. We dont want to go do a beach holiday cos really imo thats all there is sunbathing during day with no entertainment and then dinner and drinks with no entertainment at night.

Yes there are places in USA i would love to visit like Nashville, Miami again, and loads more but i would like to do them by adding them on to a cruise.

We live in UK but we would not chose to holiday in UK.

I really dont know where we would go for holidays if we have sailed our last cruise. I really dont know.

But i think we will need to start thinking of what we can do for next year as i am afraid to say i dont think it will be a cruise  (if cruising is still here next year as i think it will be a goner if the restrictions remain)

Maybe folks especially vulnerable will just choose to continue being very cautious about getting out. Others will be out there, but hopefully avoid contact with, for example, frail grandparents. Herd immunity will result eventually. There are now such huge numbers of tests being done that, of course, positives will show up. If herd immunity is the goal, then positives aren't in and of themselves a bad thing.

    here here.

Obviously after being in lockdown for so long, when things opened back up there are going to be cases

however that would be the case whether it now or somewhere down the line

Herd immunity is the only way it will cease but things have got to continue cos we cant live our lives being restricted like it is right now.

Let me be part of the solution.

There is no way i would take a 3 hour flight to florida to get on a cruse ship with all the restrictions that are going to be

    placed on a passenger .

I will wait until this virus blows over and then may consider a cruise , but for the next couple of years , no chance .

This will leave a little more space for the avid cruiser that wants to get on a ship asap.

    Enjoy your cruise .

    Cheers !

Yes i agree. I dont think it will be a problem for cruise lines to reduce capacity with all the restrictions in place because you or I will not be the only ones who will choose not to cruise with all the restrictions in place. However with reduced capacity for a long period of time will mean cruise lines will go out of business because they are in business to make money and i dont think they will make enough to sustain it with reduced capacity. However i really dont think the majority of people will cruise at present due to not getting the expereince they expect as it all seems it will be doom and gloom to me on a ship with all the restrictions and for me certainly not worth spending the money to not enjoy.

So i agree anyone who is willing to cruise with all the restrictions in place, i seriously hope you have a happy holiday however i seriously doubt it

If masks and social distancing are still a requirement then the pandemic is still

not over. I feel like the CDC will not lift it's 'No-Sail' order until there is a proven

vaccine and the pandemic has been contained.

i dont think a vacination will be found in the near future. So does that mean cruising is finished because i can't see crusie lines still being here if this goes on much longer cos they will all be bankrupt

I just thought some might be for banning Suite Guest and families with kids from the lounge (CL/SL).

    M8

but if families (with kids) pay for suites the deserve to get same as everyone else who pays for suite with or without kids

BTW i am not saying you agree with that but i just dont understand why anyone would think that would be a way forward

We would love lower occupancy. We’d pay more for the exclusivity.

    M8

So why go for Royal Carribean?  if you'd pay more for the exclusivity why not choose to go with a more exclusive cruise line so you get "your perfect holiday all the time"

Royal Carribean are a very social cruise line with lots of social interaction which i love and why my family and I choose to go  on Royal or Norweigan Cruise because being social meeting new people and new adventures and actually HAVING FUN.

However on saying this that was the "old norm" when cruising was good however with all the "new norm" information that looking likely to be in place - no windjammer buffet, shows with lack of audience (eh what the heck), social distancing, and i obviously have to mention mask wearing, dont know what happening about the swimming pool areas to mention a few i have to say my family and i will be not be cruising and I guess from many other people's posts you will get your wish of lower occupancy, so i will you a happy vacation.

Thinking they still have to figure out how entertainment will work.  If they only allow shows to be filled at 50%, then they probably will have to add more shows if time permits. Am guessing scheduling will change from current schedules.

I'm with you...entertainment is a big part of the cruise experience for us and could be a factor if we keep the cruise.

I agree, the cruise lines dont know what is happening so they can't confirm entertainment yet until things are more certain. Thats why i dont understand why they are allowed to continue to advertised cruises. Again I fully agree the entertainment on cruises are the reason why my family and i cruise due to the choice available. If this wasnt available, we would not cruise.

Yes,  it is more than that. People don't want to play by the rules. They state that they are free and can do as they like.

Don't ask them politely to follow the rules for fear of an argument or fight. Then you read later that they got the virus and don't know what to do or say.

    Stay Safe down under.

I don’t think anyone is taking this lightly.

some people are really scared and don’t want to leave the house or some wear masks and some people don’t wear masks and go about their business but adhering to the government guideline but that is not to say we are not empathetic to anyone who has lost  their lives. Every one has Their own opinion on this .

Of course people care about the people who have died from covid and they also don’t want to get covid however those people also want to get on with their lives too. I’ve been out walking (without a mask). There are people who will

go into the roads so they don’t walk past you however there has Been more than 1 occasion where there was a car going by and to me

there is more chance of them

    being hurt or worse.

life is too short live it

I know that the Covid has controlled much of our lives lately.  My hubby and I are Diamond + & both members of the Club Royale.  I have had 5 cruises cancelled since the Covid, as i am sure, some others have.  I am throwing in the towel......I am so sick of booking, being hopeful, only to have my cruise cancelled.  My computer is full of post its, trying to track the refunds that I am getting.  Although we truly love and miss cruising, we are just not going to do it anymore....

I know it’s a sad situation. I’ve only had one cruise cancelled and I know how sad that was . And although royal carribean and other cruise lines are struggling with cash flow it does not make it right to keep people thinking they will cruise when they won’t .

cruise lines should just stop advertising for holidays/

cabins till they know for sure when it going to start again. However the way its

going and if continuing to go like this much longer they will not be the cruise lines we

have Cos they will be out of business.

sad to say it but it can’t go on like this

Restaurants shouldn't be open yet.  They are already showing that they are the source of new outbreaks.  That takes care of your "problem" with wearing a mask in a restaurant.

This has gone on way way too long now. Let’s start living again.  Life is what you make it and this mask carry on is not going to solve it. This will not be solved with mask. Getting on with life

    and then

herd immunity Will come in to stop it is only thing so let just get on with it. If this carries on much longer the economy will never recover.

people are allowed to fly in planes which are smaller spaces than cruise ships.

    hotels /

restaurants are open or opening shortly and about time

too but cruise ships can’t go???? I don’t see the rhyme nor reason to that.
mans with regards to masks the majority of people will not go out to restaurants or go on holiday or cruise if it is mandatory so it is not gonna be mandatory thank goodness

Fandash, Nashville is a great city.  My niece lives there and we were there last in October.  The weather was beautiful, warm and sunny without the humidity that you usually get in Nashville in the summer.  There's loads to see and do and I absolutely love it there.  You'll love downtown .  So many bars, restaurants and music of every kind.  And I love the Nashville accent, Southern hospitality and, of course, the wonderful 'Bat Building'.  Enjoy!!  There's a regular flight from Nashville to LHR with BA.  Good timings and not too expensive.  You'll have a great time.

Thanks for that I will have a look at those too.

There are also direct flights from Nashville to Houston Hobby airport, the closet airport to Galveston. An advantage to cruising out of Galveston is that Roatan and Belize are possible ports, and NASA  Mission Control has a great tour and museum 40 minutes from the port.

    Awesome thanks

If New Orleans is a 6 hour drive from Nashville, why don't you look at a cruise on Majesty of the Seas out of New Orleans. Or whatever ship is sailing for the summer out of N.O. (down there they pronounce it NAW-leans, lol). You could go to Nashville first for as long as you like, then fly a short hop to N.O. the night before boarding the ship (or 2 nights before if you want to tour N.O., stay on Canal St, easy access to the trolley system). We stayed at the Marriott on Canal St post cruise and it's walking distance to the French Quarter. And walking distance to the Riverfront boardwalk. When we got off the ship in N.O., we Ubered to the airport for our flight home. We were there in December and it was cold! Look up Celebration on the Oaks dates, I  think it starts in November. Awesome Christmas light displays in the city park.

    again so many brilliant suggestions.

i guess im going to be busy researching all the information i have received from you guys. I certainly will look up celebration of the oaks dates too.

I am expecting this is gonna be expensive but hey not cruising this year as it was cancelled.....

We moved to Nashville in July 2018.  Great place.  Lots to do in and around.  Include Ryman (original home of the grand ole opry) and country music hall of fame.  Both downtown in walking distance from each other.   Plenty of hotels in the downtown area. Lots of honky tonks with lots of music in the downtown area.  Opryland,  the new home of the Opry, is a 15 min drive.  Also nearby is the Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's home.  You should know it could be hot and humid in August.   Enjoy your travels.   Let me know if any other questions.

Thanks so much for your recommendations. Sounds awesome and really want to go.

What is weather like there October /November ? just so i can maybe look at all dates and not just summer time.
