  1. The cruise certs are based on the points you earn but are a separate perk. You also redeem those same points before you leave that cruise for a token gift. The gifts for each level of points don't seem to relate but given you are getting money off your cruise or a free cruise for those points the level of the gifts then makes sense i.e. free T-shirt, $20 or $40 free play, dinner at a speciality restaurant etc.

The host may also comp you for a dinner at a specialty but based on what others have said - they dock your final point counts for the cert based on the comps they have given you.

  2. no but if you write to them and ask for padding on the mattress- it really helps. That's what i did for my February cruise and it was great. They do not use the egg crate mattress toppers anymore.

Can you tell me who to address that to (in order to request padding)? It seems that not all mattresses have been replaced as recent cruisers are still complaining about them.

  3. Heading out on the Grandeur in August for a 9 nite Canada/NE and have some questions for anyone who's been on similar:

    1) Formal nights? Nights 2 and 7 or 2 and 8?

    2) Anyone have the progression of menus through the 9 nights (i.e. menu names Moja, Saffron etc)

    3) What time are the main shows in the evening? We are trying to pre-reserve some dinner reservations and want to make sure we don't interfere with those.

    4) Any suggestions on something not to miss either on ship or in the ports?

    5) What table games (other than BJ, Roulette and Craps) do they have in casino? Is it smokey? Is is crowded?

    6) We are driving from NJ, how's dropping off luggage and parking at the port?

Thanks to those who take time to provide info! Booked quite some time ago and just starting our planning!:)

  4. I was on the 10/3 cruise. The first 2 days were chilly and windy. The seas were a little rough. Pools were closed and it was hard to be on deck with the wind.

Weather in St. John was beautiful. Little foggy early in the morning but it burned off and was bright sunshine and high 60's. Brought a fleece jacket and never needed it. They said it was one of the best weather days they had seen!

Days 4 and 5 seas were much calmer at times the water was like glass. The ship was cruising at slow speed (8-10 knots) and the wind was barely blowing. Day 5 on the deck was HOT in the sun. Pools were open and people were enjoying the sun.

RC did a great job re-organizing everything that had to be changed due to the re-route. They were generous with OBC and did everything to make sure we had a great vacation!

  5. Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonathan.....

Your review is breathtaking! I have never enjoyed a review as much as this one. Your eloquent descriptions of every little venture is amazing!

Thank you for taking me on such a wonderful journey, of which I hope to have the joy to experience in 31 days when I board this lovely ship.

I'm sitting here wishing for more, more, more......

Thank you for the time you have taken to send us all on such a fantastic voyage!!!

  6. Thanks for all the feedback.

Just to note... cruise docs do NOT state that you must have a passport with less than 6 mos it states....

For your safety, it is recommended....

I'm assuming they can't deny a valid passport that will not expire until well after the cruise (even though less than 6 mos), but wanted to see if anyone had issues. Sounds like it depends on what agents you come across. I would prefer not to bring birth certs/marriage licenses etc. if I don't have to (just one more thing to worry about getting lost/damaged etc.). We are only 30 minutes from the port so if we have to run home to get them we will.

  7. For those seasoned cruisers who may have run into this issue....

We are cruising in October to Bermuda. Our passports expire in January of 2016. It is recommended that you do not cruise with a passport that expires within 6 months of your return date. We are US citizens and will have our driver's licenses with us.

Has anyone had any issues with this??? I really don't want to send my passport in for renewal now and not even get it back before we cruise (on 39 days away).
