We will be on the Eurodam 18-dayer out of San Diego in November 2018.
Just booked a 2 person Retreat Cabana for the full 18 days for $699.
If it's the RT to Hawaii, I'll be one of your Cabana neighbors. :)

From one musical-loving, non-sports watching (except the Olympics which I adore) cruiser to another- thanks for a great start to your review! I'm thoroughly enjoying your commentary.
Merci Beaucoup! I look forward to reading more.

I have done one B2B in San Juan and took the opportunity to go hiking in the rainforest, something that I didn't have time for prior to sailing on the first leg.
I'd echo the posters who have recommended attending the B2B cruiser's meeting that will happen sometime in the first leg. They will walk through the options for the turnaround day to let you know what to expect, as well as talk about any special perks they're providing to B2B cruisers. On my sailing, Celebrity gave all B2Bers a free bag of laundry- which was a very nice perk for someone like me who doesn't have enough loyalty status to get free laundry.
Whatever you decide- enjoy the happiness that comes from knowing you're getting to stay when everyone else is packing up to go home.

I read in another thread that San Diego really celebrates Veteran's Day. I'm leaving on 11/11/18 on the Eurodam and wondering what do I need to know about departing on that day? Will there be road closures/detours/parades/events in the morning that could make getting to the ship on time more complicated than normal? Are there interesting things to do that morning before I board, or since it's also a Sunday, will there be many things closed?

This is my dream, to someday take a world cruise, and what a fabulous itinerary!
Bon Voyage to the voyage of a lifetime!

When people talk about Parisians or the French being snobby, I wonder how recently they have been there, and what their attitude has been. My first trip to Paris was is 1986, and if I did not speak French, or at try, I would receive a lot of attitude. By the time the 2000s rolled around, when I would speak French, I would get responses back in English. In my experience, Parisians have become exponentially more friendly to tourists over the years.
In international travel, I've always found that learning a few words of the native language and being genuinely curious about the world and the way things are done in different places go a long way to a positive reception. When travelers insist on having everything the way it is where they are from, and are dismissive of the culture of the place they are visiting, that is an almost guaranteed recipe for friction.

Are you going Thanksgiving week by any chance? We might sail by each other. I will be on Nieuw Amsterdam sailing to the western Caribbean. My cabana is booked, too. My cruise addiction is escalating.

I will be gone Thanksgiving week, but heading to Hawaii, so I don't think we'll be close enough to wave. ;)

Thanks for the review!
I'll be sailing Eurodam solo in November 2018, so I appreciate your thoughts about the solo experience. I am really looking forward to my cabana service!

Cruising solo, and was in the bathroom in just my underwear putting on make-up to get ready for dinner. I hadn't locked the bathroom door because why would I need to?
Didn't hear the cabin steward knock on the outside door. Boy did we both get a surprise when he opened the door to the bathroom. I screamed, he screamed, he slammed the door and yelled apologies through the door.
After I finished getting dressed and I left the cabin to go to dinner, he stopped me in the hall and apologized again. I was a little bit red-faced, but said "are you OK?" he said "yes" and I said "then don't worry about it" and had a good laugh.
Lesson learned- at least lock the door to the hallway if I don't want to be disturbed, and better yet, lock the door to the bathroom, even when I'm all by myself.

Oh- your meal looks so yummy!
Funny that I had the same reaction to Marrekesh. My deathly fear of snakes made every attempt to enjoy Jemaa el-Fnaa square impossible as it seemed there was a snake charmer every time I turned around. I found the souks in Fes to be much more interesting.
Thank you for allowing us to share in your adventure!

Lovely! I especially love the sky in the first picture- it complements the stone so well.

May you have smooth sailing and enjoy your South American Adventure! Bon Voyage.

I have been on the Day Trip to Nevis.
The baths are outdoors- there is one area down a few steps that is a square pool, and then down more steps is a long rectangular trough like area with walking/sitting areas on both sides of the water. The water runs through this area- a contained stream. I put my feet/legs in and the water was quite hot but soothing. There were some locals that were fully in the water, but no one on our tour got all the way in, because we had to get back into the van and continue our tour- it was one of the first things we did. My mom doesn't do stairs well and elected not to go down to the water but to just take some pictures.
We had the beach almost to ourselves after lunch as the weather was cloudy with intermittent rain sprinkles. The catamaran trip pulled up about halfway into our beach time, so if you are interested in going for a drink or two, make sure you do it early.
Ferry was about 30 minutes each way from St. Kitts if I remember correctly.

Dubrovnik sounds wonderful if hard on the knees. Glad that you both held up so well and enjoyed your day. And while it's never fun to miss a port, it certainly sounds like you made the best of things!
Looking forward to more!

Kona dive shop compatible with cruisers?
in Scuba and Snorkeling
Posted
I am having a terrible time finding a dive shop that will work for the times we are in port. We're supposed to be in port 7 am to 6pm, but since it's a tender port, and I have no status, there's no way to know when I can get off the ship.
Big Island Divers, who I've seen recommended most frequently, stated that they've had many issues with cruisers not making it to their shop by 8 am in time for their morning dives. They strongly recommended not booking because they would not refund if I didn't make it on time.
Anyone have any other suggestions? Or should I just give up and try something else in this port?
