We are doing Vancouver to Whitter in July 2019, the ship arrives in Whitter early but our flight is not until  8:00 p.m  . Looking for what to do between time really dont want to sit around air port but dont want to cart luggage around all day either..  Any ideas?

    Mrssenile2@charter.net

We are doing the July 19 Vancouver to Whittier cruise. I had the same question. Here are the options I found (you can google details):

    1. Princess transfer to Anchorage. Store luggage at visitors centre and then take shuttle to airport

    2. Alaska Cruise Transfer- does 1/2 day and full day tours. Will dropoff st airport.

    3. Bear Paw Transportation. Also does transfers, 1/2 day and full day tours either private or shared ride from Whittier to Anchorage.

    4. Avis car rental in Whittier with drop off in Anchorage.

    Hope this helps.

Yes - most likely. You may save some money by taking a shuttle into Anchorage and then renting a car there. Sometimes one way with Whittier can be very $$$$.

    Thanks Carol,

Actually we have elected to rent the car to do a one day DIY tour enroute to the airport. We are 4 adults and the rental iappears to be a good rate vs 4 full day tours that are at someone else's schedule.

  3. We sail on the Island Princess July 2019. Its our first cruise ever  I have researched options to transfer from Whittier to Anchorage and we have decided on a car rental.  We disembark at Whittier (ship docks at 12:30am) and currently have a car rental reservation with Avis in Whittier for 8am. I understand the Avis offices opens at 8am. I also understand the tunnel opens for northbound traffic on the hour for 15min.  So is it reasonable that we would be able to disembark before 8am, walk to Avis (8 Harbour St) and once loaded be in line for the tunnel for 9am to 9:15 access? I am not familiar with how the order of disembarking works for passengers or the timing.  Thank you in advance for insights and prior experience.

  4. Was going to start a similar thread so please excuse me for adding my questions here. We also disembark st Whittier next summer and currently have a car rental reservation with Avis in Whittier for 8am. Thank you in advance for insights and prior experience.

  5. Thank you all for your insights. I much appreciate your perspectives. We are travelling with another couple so there are 4 of us. We have requested ATD, but was getting nervous about the choice. You have shown me there is no perfect answer. We keep it as is and as others suggested will enjoy the experience and learn for future cruises.

    Thank you.

Standard on all Grand class ships, including Emerald, Ruby and Crown ( which some people consider a different class).  Or to be more specific, Not on Coral, Island or Pacific, Royal and Regal.  (Now, someone will be along to expand on this...).. EM

Thanks. Are there standard sizes on the Island and Coral?

Mini-suite balconies are 9’x7’. They are fully covered on Emerald deck, fully uncovered on Dolphin deck.

Standard cabin balconies on other decks are 9’x5’ with the exception of Caribe deck which has the largest balcony at 9’x9’, of which 9’x5’ is covered.

Caribe deck standard balcony cabins have the largest balconies.

Are these standard sizes on most ships or just on the Grand?

  9. We sail on the Island Princess July 2019. Its pur first cruise ever  I have researched options to transfer from Whittier to Anchorage such as car rental, ACT, shuttles, private transfers. I understand that some are direct and some include sightseeing. But I can't find any info on Princess Transfers. Do they have sight seeing options or train? Our flight is at 3:45pm so looking for airport transfer but dont want to sit 5hrs at the airport.

  10. Booked Alaska 7 day cruise for July 2019 last June under Sip and Sail. Refared under 3 for Free and saved $681 got $200 OBC and upgraded from BD to BB for 2 adults. Refared same trip again under the sale 2 days ago and saved additional $600 for 2 fares. Plus got flights cheaper. Pays to monitor prices.

  11. Firstly, thank you all for the great info and advice. I have learnt a lot about cruising because of your selfless sharing.  Our first cruise is on the Island Princess next July. We are not big drinkers so cancelled our sip and sail and rebooked an upgraded cabin under 3 for free last month. So with gratuities pre-paid, and a good OBC, my question is as we buy drinks as we go will there be additional gratuities charged? Also, will Princess put a hold on our credit card for charges at the start of the cruise if we have OBC? If so how much? Thank you in advance.
