  1. Sailing with my 21+ daughters in the same cabin on Liberty of the Seas over Christmas this year and wanted to purchase the Deluxe Package for just myself and the Refreshment Package for my daughters. I had heard this is possible if you call, but I was preparing for the worst.

When I initially asked for this, the CAS spelled out the new rules about how all 21+ in the same same cabin must purchase the Deluxe Package if one is and he asked why I couldn't. I quickly contemplated making up an elaborate medical/religious excuse, but thought I'd better lean toward just being honest *gasp* and then explained that my daughters just don't drink alcohol and heck, it's stretch just to buy the refreshment package for my daughters since they only drink water, tea, or coffee...he then quickly put me on hold.

So I paced my living room waiting on hold wondering if they'd actually respect this explanation or what creative reason may work out better should I have to repeat this request to another unsuspecting agent. But he then came back 10 minutes later saying that after conferring with his bosses, he would allow it.

And as bonus, I also able to take advantage of the current sale on both packages (10% of Deluxe, 30% off Refreshment), so feel a win for me.

    Happy sailings all!!

  2. The current rule is that all guests age 21 and over in the same stateroom must buy the Deluxe package if one buys it.

However, according to the RCI website "One significant change to the Deluxe Beverage package in 2018 is all Royal Caribbean passengers 21 years of age and older (18 years in Australia and the U.K) are now required to purchase the Deluxe Beverage Package if at least one other person in their cabin has one. If the other adult(s) in the same stateroom do not wish to purchase a Deluxe Beverage Package, you can call Royal Caribbean and ask for an exemption. Usually, Royal Caribbean will allow the other adult(s) to purchase a less-expensive drink package, such as the Refreshment Package."

I am cruising with my two over 21yrs DDs in December who don't drink, so I am hoping this holds true....

  3. Has anyone had experience with a Royal Private Journey? Never heard of it before this month's newsletter article with not much detail other than:

On your Royal Caribbean cruise, embark on an adventure to remember with Royal Private Journeys. Our Destination Insiders are at your service to create a carefully curated and totally personalized program. Their expertise and exceptional service ensures that your private excursion delivers the very best of the destination with all the individual touches that make the experience uniquely yours. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, fulfilling a lifelong passion, or looking for new ways to enjoy a favorite place, Royal Private Journeys are for you.

Just curious if this is anything worthwhile looking into for a Caribbean cruise or is it just better to go private and/or book an RCI provided excursion.

Any thoughts and/or experiences out there?

    Happy Cruising!

  4. With RCI "sales" it's a crap shoot on whether the price will actually increase or not...they play a not-so-good shell game on pricing. Personally, since you sail in just over a month and want to book a cruise a year out, I would wait for the OBC and book on board next month....then just keep an eye out for price drops between then and final payment date. Just my humble opinion...

    Have a great cruise!!

  5. Any idea how MTD works? Guessing need to get there early or reserve early. Currently showing reservations up to 6:45 which would seem a bit tight unless they are super efficient first night

I agree, having only one hour to eat in the MDR with MTD prior to muster would be tight. I would make a reservation NET 6pm on night 1 so you won't feel rushed.

  6. The Centrum on the Jewel is VERY LOUD in the evenings until about midnight. So if quiet is important, avoid cabins near the Centrum.

There are new balcony cabins forward on Deck 11 just outside the Solarium in an area that used to be taken up by the spa. I've seen good reviews on those cabins, with the only down side that the balconies aren't covered. Might be worth a look.

  7. Same thing happened to me...I tried to book a specific cabin on board through Next Cruise with no luck (was told you couldn't book just 2 guests in a D1 even though the specific D1 I wanted could only fit 2) and when I got back home even the regular RCI reservation office (866-562-7625) didn't show the cabin as available.

But then I called the Crown and Anchor # (800-526-9723), and voila...got it booked with no problem.
