  1. I wouldn't worry much about it. I'm originally from FL and I still travel there at least 3 times a year to visit my folks. Most showers in FL (in my lifelong experience) last only a very short time. Also, I agree with the poster that said not to depend on the weather forecast. Personally, I've found that most of the time they're wrong. We were suppose to have rain for Christmas last year while we were there and never did.

Whatever, l hope you have a ball; rain or shine:D You should be okay with your positive attitude.:D

  2. My only complaint is the curtain sticks to my butt.

LOL! I hate when that happens!

That's why I always take about three of those weighted clips you get when you buy helium balloons for a party to hold the shower curtain away from me. Here in CA you can't take helium-filled balloons out of a store without the weighted-clips or a small weighted-disc attached. I think it's an environmental thing.

My DH is 6' tall and he doesn't have a problem using the shower. It's not a big space but it works and is better than having to traipse on over to the Spa to use their showers. I guess a guy wouldn't mind. But us lady's love our products. I'd have to haul a huge toiletry bag with me!:)

  3. We have cruised twice with the DS's friend and even though we had a permission letter that was signed and notarized from his parents, we were never asked for it. No one at any point asked to see it. I don't know if their ages made a difference. On one cruise the friend was 17 and on the other he was 18. He's a year older than the DS. So, I'm thinking that if they let us on with a kid that had a different last name than us, they will probably let your DH on with kids that have the same last name as his.:)

  4. I've been on several carnival cruises & have yet to make it to tea time. This April I will though! Are kids allowed? Sounds like something my 4 yr old would love while wearing her princess dress.

Yes, kids are most certainly allowed. I think your DD would love it.:D

You can get other things to drink besides tea. On my last cruise I took in my own soda from my cabin and they didn't mind a bit. (I also get the drink card and have used that at tea time also.) You could bring in a cocktail or glass of wine if you wanted to.

Everyone dresses casual as it's not a "formal" tea. Like someone above said, they only use part of the MDR not the whole dining space as they know that not all that many people (I'd say the most I've ever seen are about 25-30 people or small groups.

It's worth it to give it a try if for nothing else than the tea sandwiches and delicious pastries. :)

  5. We've ordered one of the "Bon Voyage" cakes to have in our room when we arrived and not only was the cake there...our room steward had left us plates, utensils, and cloth napkins. It was a real treat and the cake was delicious We'll order another one for our next cruise. :D So yummy!

  6. Ok thank y'all. I didn't know that the cabin wouldn't be ready till 130. I think I will let them deal with it and bring it to me!

Just a little heads up...cabins are not always ready for you to enter at exactly 1:30p. I've been on cruises where we got the "all clear" a little earlier and sometimes a little later. 1:30p is just when it is "most often" ready. So, don't expect that right at 1:30p you're going to be able to just walk to your cabin. It all depends on how busy the staff is.

I always check my 29" bag and carry on a 21" roll-aboard and a large tote. That's because we take water, wine, soda, etc. on board in our roll-aboard. All travel document, medications, and jewelry...basically anything I can't live without...goes into my tote.

We always head to the Lido Deck and grab a table either inside or outside and settle in until the all clear is given to head to the cabins. We take turns watching the luggage and going to get food, going to the restroom, or just walking around and checking things out. This has been our MO for years and years.

  7. I'm exactly the same on vacation as I am at home. Except with many more drinks in me ;)

    Ditto! It's because I don't have to drive after I drink!:D

I don't drink that much anyway on land or at sea. After two glasses of wine...I'm good to go. Hard stuff, same thing. If I have 3 of anything...not feeling good next day (and might be seen dancing to top of tables)!:p

I guess I'm what you call a "lightweight" or a "cheap date", LOL!:D

  8. Out of curiosity, why would you think that being in your 60's keeps you from wearing short sleeves or even tanks and shorts? I have a number if friends in their 60's and even 70's that wear shorts and short sleeves/sleeveless and look fine in them.

    Autocorrect responsible for most typos...

Just a personal choice. I just don't like how my arms and legs look. I shouldn't have mentioned my age. I'm sure that there are lots of women younger than me that don't like to wear sleeveless tops or shorts and same age or older women that don't mind wearing them. Didn't mean to offend anyone.

  9. Just wanted to share that I just bought a tablet-sleeve at Dollar Tree. I received a Nook for Christmas from my children and have yet to purchase a proper cover. I came across this cheapie that will make-do until I can find one that I really like.

Here is a pic if anyone is interested. I got one in hot pink, but some of the other colors were: black, red, Forest Green, Aqua, and a medium shade of Blue.

I found it in the auto accessories asile not the stationary and office supply section.

I also found a To-Go wine glass. I bought only one for cruising but should have stocked up as they sold quickly. Perhaps they will

come back again as some items seem to do. Here is a pick of the exact style glass that I got. The pic is from Amazon as I could not

find it on the Dollar Tree site as they may be out of stock at this time.

I like them because they are made of a hard-durable plastic and also contain a tight fitting lid. They would have made a nice

gift for fellow friends and cruisers.

    .

Thanks for sharing, I'm going to get a couple of those wine glasses for when I go on our next cruise! Wish it was soon:D

I love the Dollar Tree and have gotten some great things there. I got the cutest, small, reading glasses there. They are so cute and work really well. I also get a bunch of these little plastic packages that contain those soft wiping cloths for cleaning your glasses. At $1 a piece, I have reading glasses in every room of my house, including the kitchen and bathrooms so I never have to run around to get one when I need it. LOL!

  10. If the DH and I didn't skimp on things, we'd never have gone on as many cruises as we have. By sailing in inside cabins, not always going to the specialty restaurants, not flying first-class, etc., we have been able to make some beautiful, unbelievably unforgettable, lifelong memories.

I'll always remember my first cruise with the DH (I had cruised twice before, he had never cruised; he was 19, I was 25, he was in college, I had a fun job). We had won some money gambling at Jai Alai (in Miami), and at my suggestion, we decided to take a 3-day cruise to the Bahamas. What I remember, is that by the time we had paid for the cruise, parking the car, setting aside money for tips, etc., we got on the ship...and this is the absolute truth...with just a couple of dollars...$2 to be exact. Down to his last quarter, the DH put it into a slot machine and pulled the handle...he hit a $300 jackpot!!! We thought we were so rich and we were so freak'n excited! This was back in the early 70s and $300 to a college student back then was a small fortune. We spent most of it on excursions, however, being young and foolish, on the second to the last night of our cruise, we went to a casino and let what we had left of the money "ride" on the the number "6" (how many months we'd been together), and "red" (because it's my favorite color) at the roulette wheel. You guessed it, we lost every cent we had! We had put aside just enough money to get the car out of the parking lot. LOL! We weren't the least bit bummed out. We had had some crazy fun! And yes, we did pay our tips.

The DH, same as I had before him, got the cruising bug and over the years we have sailed all over the world together and eventually with our DS who also got the cruising bug on his first cruise. We never had a lot of money but we always had a great time.

We have never been on a cruise that we didn't have awesome time. We still (even though we can afford to upgrade) sail in interior cabins. We concluded long ago that we're not in it all that much so why spend the money to upgrade when we can use the money to upgrade our excursions instead. And, we have been on some spine-thrill-chilling ones and some mellow, laid-back ones; but never on ones we didn't really enjoy on some level.

So yeah, we skimp, but not on excursions.

  11. LOL well you can do that now at home! :-)

It is a really cool thing for kids though - the products are all chocolate, vanilla or strawberry scented - smells lovely - and they are pampered properly (both our pedis for over an hour and we sat together) - can't do it every time, but a special treat

Wish that I could...but the SIL lives in the Northeast and I live in CA.:( But you can bet we'll do it on our next cruise together.:D

  12. That was originally my plan but my husband would be the one to take us and pick us back up. He isn't the most patient and I couldn't figure out how we would be able to coordinate the pick up. I decided it would be easier on me and the 2 girls just to pay the parking and have the car there waiting for us. No rushing around trying to get off to meet him at a certain time and a lot less stress on me.;)

Yep, I'd opt for your plan if it were me. You never know for sure, exactly what time you'll get off the ship. Sometimes we've gotten off right away and other times we've had to wait for whatever reason while U.S. Customs swept the ship. If you can afford it and it isn't a real hardship...I'd opt to drive myself and not have the "impatient hubby" do it. LOL!;)

Whatever you decide, I hope you and your girls have an awesome cruise!:)

  13. I don't think car seats are required in taxicabs, we never needed one for our DS (but, come to think of it, he was 9 when we began cruising with him all the time). However, if you feel better bringing one with you, then you should feel free to do so. Won't you need one anyway to get from wherever you are coming from to board the ship? Or, maybe I'm interpreting this wrong and you mean you'll have one but just don't want to bring it on your excursion. In any case, my brothers and I were all born in the mid-forties and we survived (I'm the oldest and I'm in my late 60s) without car seats just fine. LOL!:D

Whatever you decide...I hope you and your family have a safe, awesome, cruise!:):):)

P.S. I wouldn't want to bring one on my excursion to Atlantis and have to haul it all around, all day, along with a child and all the other stuff you'll need. I'd only do it if I were going to be traveling in a vehicle all day or for a very long distance. I don't believe they are required in the Bahamas anyway.

  14. I've heard macaroons are also available and it's best to KNOW what to request...so what's the normal run down of pastry options?

As I mentioned above...my favorite are the fresh strawberries w/a dollop of their fresh made (at least I think it is...but don't care cause it's delish!) whipped cream. They also have little cream-filled puffs (which I usually can't get enough of). They also have several different types of tea-sized sandwiches and other things. I can't remember them all, but they do have IMHO a nice choice.

I always order a soft drink as I don't like hot beverages (I know, why am I at "Tea" if I don't like it...because of the pastries...LOL!).:D If you do go to Tea time and don't like what the serve...then don't go to anymore on that cruise because they serve the same items at all of them, which I personally don't mind.;)

    OOps! Somehow this double-posted. Sorry!

It's nice really, they come around with a box of a variety of teas and you pick the one you want. Then they come around with a cart filled with pastries and those cute little tea-sized sandwiches. They come around with the tea tray about twice as I remember. I'm the one at our table that's joking (not really...I did say I love them strawberries and cream...LOL), "Where's that guy with the tea tray, I want more strawberries!" On our last cruise, the people we had just met were funny and were saying, "Yeah, bring back the tea tray or off with your heads!". We were all just joking of course, and weren't saying this out loud, just between ourselves. Tea Time is just more Fun Time! I'd be sad if they ever did away with it.

  16. I have a suggestion for those that want to bring their own soap and think it's too big to bring more than one bar but would like to have one for both the sink and the shower...what about cutting your bar in half and keeping one half to use by the sink and the other half in the shower? That would work and cut down on having to bring more than one bar of soap. Just a thought.;) I rarely use bar soap anymore. I go to Targets or Walmart (yes, Walmart) to get the small travel-sized bottles of Dove body wash (it's my favorite because I tend to have dry skin). Come to think of it...I've seen, in this particular section, smaller bars of Dove soap (there may be some of other brands too...I'm not pushing Dove...it's such that I'm fixated on that particular brand because it's what I use). They're not the little ones you get in hotels but are smaller than the regular sized bars. Also, you could just put some of your own personal favorite body wash into travel-sized containers. Just some ideas!

  17. Had an almost Seinfeld flashback experience on Fantasy a few weeks ago.

On entering our cabin, there was a small wrapped piece of bar soap on the sink, just like you see in any hotel from the cheapest flop house to the most expensive luxury resort. Little bitty wrapped bar soaps are the norm in travel. On Carnival they have liquid soap dispensers in the showers. I don’t care for liquid soap, I prefer bar soap. So I moved my little bar from the sink into the shower, but it wasn’t replaced the next day. So I went down to the customer service desk and asked for an extra piece of bar soap and had my SNL-skit experience:

"We don’t have bar soap,” the rep said.

"But there was one by the sink when we arrived."

"Oh, that’s a ‘promotional item.’ We don’t replace promotional items."

    "'Promotional item?' Soap? Seriously?"

"The liquid soap is complementary. The bar soap is meant to last you seven days. You can buy soap in the gift shop."

    "Wow."

I tried not to laugh, it was both funny and sad that Carnival is cutting costs so much that they take a hard line on not doling out a .20 cent piece of soap for a probably rare request such as mine. This wasn't the only cost-saving measure noticeable --my husband is still going on about his supposedly watered-down martini--but it is the most bizarre I think I've ever experienced.

LOL! If I had been that person, I would have been embarrassed to tell you what they did!:o:o:o It's so laughable! You probably would have done better asking your cabin steward. They always seem to be very considerate and helpful (my personal experience after umpteen cruises).

Next time you cruise you'd better bring your own soap because it seems Carnival's rule is..."No soap for you!" LOL!:p

P.S. I love and cruise Carnival all the time...just think this is a very funny thread!

  18.

OMG! I love, love, love, love, love, Michael Kors fashion. I've gotten a couple of his bags at TJ Maxx, and one at Ross. I use the one (large) that I got at Ross a lot when I travel because I can get so much stuff in it. The one I just recently got at TJ Maxx is a bright blue wristlet. They were $80 everywhere I looked at Christmas but when I got back home, TJ Maxx had it for $50 and it wasn' on sale either.

Ladies, if you have a TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross-4-Less, shop there for your bags instead of on-line...between their low prices and sales, you can do way better than paying internet prices! Unless of course, you are looking for a very specific style, size, or color.:D

  19. I swear, I would lose things in there! I'd put something in one of the gazillion pockets and never find it again. :)

LOL! That reminds me of my SIL. She tries her best to be very organized but she has so many little purses inside her large tote that she always seems to forget where she put stuff. I love her though; her intentions are good.:D

  20. I've been hooked on Betsey Johnson lately. She has one style that I have in about 6 different colors and decor. They're about 10x11, made of padded material, have two side to side horizontal zippers on the front that I keep my camera, tickets/passes, gum, small tablet and pen for notes, small stuff like that. Top zipper for security. They're a lightweight but strong semi-padded material so very lightweight. They're "edgy" with flowers and skulls and sequins, some "edgier" than others, haha.

I do have other styles in leather that I got on QVC, Tignanello has beautiful ones and B. Makowski, (though lately his prices have gone thru the roof.) BUT,........you can find all these brands at Ross, Marshalls and TJ Max for much, much less. :)

I get most all of my handbags and travel bags at either Marshalls or TJ Maxx because they have such a huge choice of styles, brands, and prices. I often get "my" personal favorite brand, Baggallini, whenever I see one on the sale rack. I've got them in several styles, sizes, and colors. I swear by them.:D I had one for years until it fell apart from my using it so much! LOL!
