CELEBRITY MOVE UP TRACKER (effective April 19, 2019; but can back-fill data, if available)

    • Ship:  Edge
    • Length of Cruise: 7 nights
    • Cruise Sail Date: Dec 8, 2019
    • Date email offer received: Oct 10, 2019
    • Captain’s Club Tier [“PREVIEW” = first Celebrity Cruise]:  Classic
    • Booked through Celebrity Direct OR via TA: TA
    • Current Cabin: SS2
    • Bid?  Yes/No: Yes

    If YES -  Bidding Details:

    • Cabin Category: place winning category, if accepted (all category offers, can be mentioned in comments) Edge Villa
    • Bid Offer: $2505
    • Notification Date: 11/22/2019
    • Accepted / Rejected Accepted

General Comments (offer details, etc.) The minimum bid was $2250. My bid showed as slightly higher on the meter but still very much in the "weak" range. Others had offers for slightly lower minimum bids but we had a bargain price on a guarantee suite for our original booking. Also, some people received notification of their bids acceptance a day before I received mine. I think they put them through from high to low.

Other bid minimums were: Iconic suite $5000, PH $4000, RS $1500, and CS $1000. I only bid on the villa.

Not seeing this on my platinum AmEx.  Did take advantage of it the last time it was offered.

It was not on my platinum or hilton amex but it was on my "everyday amex" (Amex branding name, not mine and I rarely use it LOL). I don't know if it has anything to do with it but I've never used my "everyday" card with Celebrity but I have used the other 2.

  3. I haven't been on an S class ship before or had a CS. I can tell you that I stayed in an RS on Infinity last year when I found a great deal and LOVED it! We really enjoyed the whirlpool tub on the balcony - we ended most of our evenings drinking champagne and relaxing in it. We also enjoyed having all of the specialty dining included, we could be indulgent and only feel guilty about the calories. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we recently booked the same cabin for a trip this December when I found another great deal for it.

Same here. Let me take you on a little ride...

I used my Captain's Club Select tier to match to Mlife Gold. Then matched Mlife Gold to Hyatt Explorist status. The Hyatt Explorist status got me a free American Airlines Gold status challenge that I used for free checked bags and free upgrades to Main Cabin Extra seats for 3 months. In addition, the last time I was in Atlantic City, I stopped by Harrah's and matched my Mlife Gold to Caesar's Diamond, which I then matched to Wyndham Diamond. I used one of the aforementioned statuses (I forget which) to match to National Car Rental Executive Elite which I then matched to Hertz President's Circle.

All of this from just a Captain's Club Select tier. After our cruise next month, my wife will be CC Elite, which I'm told makes me Elite as well by way of marriage. 😎

Wow, I thought I was the travel hack queen but I bow to the king!

  5. I totally understand the temptation to book a cruise to get the status change but I've resisted (so far!) For me, one of the biggest benefits of Capt Club is the tier matching with Mlife (MGM casino properties). We have a timeshare in Vegas so I that means I get benefits on land and sea vacations. I just discovered the joy of cruising so I'm still quite far from elite status, I'll be select after our December cruises.

  6. I have not cruised with friends but I have done a lot of traveling with friends and family. I always set the expectation that everyone is responsible for their own fun. Just because you are traveling together, doesn't mean you have to do everything together. If you want to do something, share it with the group but be prepared to do it on your own if no one else is interested. If you don't want to do something, feel free to take a pass. I can't say this has completely eliminated the occasion hurt feelings or discontent, but it allows me to not feel responsible for other people's good time (or lack thereof).

That said, I generally end up acting as tour guide since I am the one who does all of the research about where we are going. I don't mind it, I just lay out different options and let people choose. I find that saves a lot of time so we don't spend our vacation sitting around trying to figure out what is available in the area.

  7. That is distressing to hear that you are getting the run around on the drinks and more package. Other people on this forum have reported getting 4 bottles of wine and casino credit on both cards. I bought the package for our cruise next month so I will be interested to know the final resolution. If the casino credit and 2 bottles of wine are per stateroom and not per person then I will cancel because I don't think it will be worth the money.

Thanks for taking us along on your trip.

  8. Yes, we are sailing Edge on 12/8 in an SS. We also just added to that trip, sailing Infinity on 12/16 in an RS. The cruise planner for the 12/16 cruise has drink and more but shows full price. Since we are in RS for that cruise I didn't bother getting it corrected because we will already have most of the perks from that package.

Interesting thread. We have PBP as an included perk and the Premium + was on sale for less than the cost of the PBP we already had. I called to inquire (twice) and was told (both times) that I couldn't upgrade because we'd received the PBP as a perk and that the Premium + was only available to those who'd purchased the PBP. Maybe I'll have to make call #3!

I also had the premium package as a perk but was able to buy just the upgrade to drinks and more.  Initially, my cruise planner was not reflecting my drink package perk and wanted me to pay full price for drinks and more. An email to my TA and 2 calls on her part to celebrity fixed that and the upgrade option finally showed up.

  10. Thanks for taking us on your vacation. I'm sailing Edge 12/08 and really looking forward to it. I'm happy to hear Arsim is on Edge. We had him last year on Infinity for our very 1st cruise and we definitely felt pampered. I don't know if we would get him in December because we'll be in a sky suite (although I've got bids in for upgrades so who knows). I'm curious, do you think the celebrity suite is worth the extra money over a sky suite even though you don't get the free specialty dining and other high end suite amenities?
