One other option is to join a small group excursion advertised in the roll-call for your cruise. A mini-bus/van of 8 people is much nicer than a 40-50 person one and it’s a chance to meet new people. There’s often a mixture of solos and couples and even when I’ve been the only person solo, I’ve had a seat beside the driver and learned a lot in our private conversations.

Well, it sounds like they have decided to leave them in a locked open position. We were in 7260 and that's where I persuaded maintenance to get them operational again. Jeanie, (or anyone else) did you notice any noise from Hideaway? It is handy to grab a coffee there!
-
Are the packages still available for purchase on the ship at a discount? I remember on day one I believe, a "salesperson" at the entrance of Oceanview selling the packages at a reduced price.
-
The entrances to Hideaway actually have automatic sliding doors that open and shut like a supermarket.
On Silhouette, they were initially locked in the open position but we actually had the maintenance folks get them working again, because we heard a little "people" noise from the Hideaway in our cabin. We've booked a similar cabin on the Reflection because the big balconies on the hump are a nice bonus! Can't get everything I guess!

It’s been a couple of years since I cruised but I’m assuming there are still offers when you board to buy a package for the different specialty restaurants? What are the prices and is there any strategy to get the best deal?
-
Can anyone who’s been on Reflection recently tell me if the sliding glass doors at the Hideaway on Reflection are working (ie opening and closing)? I had an issue on Silhouette where maintenance chose to keep them in a permanent open position. Added a little noise to our cabin which is near the Hideaway entrance.

Anyone know if Celebrity offers a shuttle to Dublin?

Also a RiL fan. Used them in October for post-cruise transfer and highlights tour. Since we were staying on in Rome we booked Rome by Night and Hidden Rome. 5* all the way. Same driver each time - Franco - very nice guy, excellent driver and great sense of humour. And Jany is simply wonderful for answering your pre-cruise questions. Don't forget you can customize any tour.

As virtually everyone, including me, have assured you that they have not heard any noise I suggest you stop ruining your present cruise by worrying about a problem you probably will not have on the next cruise. I reiterate that we have never heard any noise in the S-class PH and they are at the end of the partition with no glass door.
Project Gal, the views on noise were and continue to be mixed from a variety of people here. My inquiries were more of a sea day project and did nothing to "ruin" my first cruise. Thanks to these inquiries, and the help of the Concierge, the problem was addressed and my area on deck 7 is definitely quieter and hopefully my actions will be of use to others. I'm glad you slept well in your Penthouse but others are obviously more sensitive than you.

The doors really exist and are working for the moment. Thanks to the persistence of Silhouette's excellent CC manager Vanessa, the chief electrical engineer turned on some magic switch and the doors, (at least the ones outside our cabin near the Hideaway,) are opening and closing as they were always intended to.
-
Also, another vote for GTI. Plus, for a very few dollars more, we restricted our group size to eight to make private group and had a more intimate experience with the opportunity to customize the itinerary. Excellent ongoing communications with them, great guide, quality minibuses.

Latest update.
My Concierge initially denied the existence of the doors. Then ta-da, I walked her six-feet from her desk and we manually closed the "automatic" doors. She was amazed at this revelation and brought someone down from the bridge. After some initial lame excuses his reply was the doors have been disabled because too many people have had "serious accidents" bumping into the glass.
If there's anyone out there on an S class ship reading this who has working glass doors, please me know.

I really resent being lied to by Customer Relations (there are no sliding doors) or given sketchy answers (we'll close them if you find it noisy on your next cruise). Any suggestions about who to raise this with to get a substantial answer? I'm not trying to be unreasonable. If there's something like an electrical failure, so be it. I'm tired of being blown off, however.

Hi,Phil. We were on the hump onSerenade of the Seas and closed the doors ourselves- made a big difference. Good luck.
We have 6209 on Solstice inJan if you have any reports on smoke or noise.
Hi Holly
Yes, we did too on Grandeur. They were fire doors though and it did make a big difference to close them. But the S class has automatic glass doors like a grocery store - at least when someone throws the switch to allow them to work. Good news is I think we will be just outside the zone of noise. We'll be starboard so not the smoking side but I'll let you know what I hear. We're currently port but on deck 10 so too far away to detect any smokers. - Phil

Update: I finally met a very pleasant customer service individual who admitted the legendary doors do exist! She had no idea why they are usually left open but said they are closed if there are enough complaints about noise. I am not shy about complaining if necessary. Watch this space after Oct 11 LOL.

Well, I have to disagree. We were in 7272 on Silhouette, flat part of the hump. We heard lots of noise from the atrium, particularly a band with two female singers. Why they needed two, I don't know because they seemed interchangable. Their voices were piercing, and we could clearly hear them with out door closed. Perhaps if they had been better singers, we might have enjoyed. We are musical people and bad singers can be painful (especially those wo attempt to sing the National Anthem at sporting events...) There were never any sliding doors closed on deck 7 between corridor and Hideaway. They usually stopped by midnight. EM
I've walked by your cabin and heard lots of noise in the hallway so I can believe you heard it inside as well. I'll repeat again...the sliding doors on Silhouette (which I believe exist based on my fingers) are NEVER closed.
I'm sensitive to this because I had a reburbished cabin on Grandeur (former library I believe) with a wonderful oversized porthole window but it was exactly midship and the noise from the "bands" in the atrium was beyond annoying.

Currently 6243 on Silhouette; no doors but no noise whatsoever. Great location
I'm on your cruise Wiltonian...hope you're having a good time and glad to hear you're enjoying your location :)
The odd thing about the doors (I checked decks 7 and 10) is that they are there. If I slip my fingers in, i can feel the glass. But for whatever reason, they have been disabled and don't open or close. Tomorrow's a sea day so I may ask about them again, just to try to solve the mystery!
-
The library itself is indeed completely open to the atrium and the lifts. But unless there have been major changes since I was recently on board Silhouette, the automatic glass sliding doors people refer to are the exit forward from the library (between bookcases) to the midship corridors reducing noise to that area of the ship.
Thanks! I'm on the ship now as you know. I can actually see what I assume are the doors and tracks you describe but they are kept open day and night. Nothing slides open or shuts.
-
Silhouette does have sliding glass doors, at least on deck 10, the same on all S class ships. They are at the forward end of the hump, there are none at the rear of the hump by the stairs. So for example on deck 10 they are in the library.
We're currently on deck 10 and no sliding doors near the library or anywhere. In fact the library is wide open to elevator and lobby noise. I pity the poor souls trying to read there at night with the current band doing a bad but very loud Beatles tribute. But based on the comments here I expect little cabin noise when we change cabins. Great Med cruise and our first ever b2b. Life is good!

Wow Phil! Good memory! What cruise was that? Was it the transatlantic? I’m embarrassed to say I don’t remember you. Sorry:o I’ve just booked Connie again for Christmas and first time back on her for a while, cruising on S-Class meanwhile. Enjoy Silhouette!
Phil
No need for apologies Phil. It was a Caribbean cruise and was a very long time ago - lots of cruises under our belts since then :)We met at at the CC party and sat at adjacent tables in the MDR. - Phil
-
I've stayed in ordinary 1A cabins on decks 8 and 9 and even with the glass door open I’ve never heard a thing in the cabin. I will say I’m really noise sensitive too.
Phil
Thanks Phil. No glass doors here but my sonophobia is under control. BTW, we sailed on the same Connie cruise 10 years ago...I never forget a name especially when it's the same as mine LOL.

Thanks everyone. Reassuring to hear that noise won't be an issue. It is strange that some S-class ships have sliding glass doors but not Silhouette. When I asked at the front desk today they had never heard of them!
I did see the heavy metal fire doors that can be closed in emergency situations.
-
Thanks and good to hear the feedback. I'm on Silhouette now but moving cabins for our b2b. No sliding doors, just fire doors on decks 7-10. Noise in corridor seemed loud from the band in the lobby but good to know the cabins are quiet.
-
I was reading the S-class reviews which is a very handy feature. Many refer to how quiet the hump cabins such as
7260-7286 or 7217-7243 are because noise from the central lobby area is blocked by sliding glass doors. But strolling by these cabins on Silhouette I didn't see any sliding doors (just open space) and the sound from the band was very noticeable in the corridor. (I obviously wasn't in the cabins themselves.)
Can anyone clarify this noise issue please?
When will Solstice be "revolutionized"?

I know it now has the blue hull but when will it get new soft goods etc.?
