  1. On many, if not most, Celebrity cruises they offer discounts during the cruise to dine at the specialty restaurants. It's not always publicized, but you can ask if they'll offer you a discount...you can ask every day...and you can ask at different locations during the same day. Quite often, they'll say OK....I'll give you x% or $x off tonight or so on. It never hurts to ask.

On the other hand, if you really want to be sure you can dine in a specialty restaurant or want a special time or date, then reserve it in advance.

    Good to know...thanks.

  2. We're on board Millennium before its next dry dock so perhaps a last chance to dine at Olympic if it is slated to become something else.

Just wondering if those who have tried it recently think it's worth the cost? Also, are there any deals/discounts offered during the course of the cruise, other than the usual one on the first night of the cruise?

  3. Cruised this area twice and have a third booked although not on the Millie (which we love). Our first cruise was in March and seas were very calm but we did have fog! The fog horn constantly blasted as we neared Vietnam. Wonderful area to cruise, have an amazing time!

Thanks for the reply. My wife will be reassured by your comment about calm seas...I think we can handle fog ;) First time on Millie though we loved our time on Connie a few years ago.

  4. I asked this question on the Asia forum but am posting here as well in case there are any Millennium past passengers checking this forum.

We booked a guarantee on the Feb 28 Millennium sailing and got assigned a nice deck 8 cabin but it's fairly far forward on the ship.

Just wondering what sea conditions to expect in the February-March period. I know we are well out of typhoon season and seas should be quite calm but just wondering if any past SE Asia cruisers can add their two cents from their own experience.

  5. Storms for that area are like our hurricane season June to Oct.

We did Singapore to Bali and stayed in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year Outstanding time

    Weather and seas were great.

Thanks very much...that will be particularly reassuring to my wife who can be prone to seasickness.

  6. Since I've booked an inside there was no Good, Better, Best from Celebrity though they did give me a residency discount. And the jump to OV or above was too expensive for me even with the Celebrity perk.

I did some on-line checking before I booked and there were some decent obc's from US travel agencies but Celebrity gave me the best currency exchange to Cdn dollars.

In the past, I've been able to switch to a TA, complete my payment in Cdn dollars and get a US obc. One (on a RCCL booking) even threw in a meal package.

I'll just have to check to see if there is a good offer this time. I wouldn't bother for $50.

  7. We are doing Hong Kong to Singapore in late Feb. to mid-March. Just wondering how calm the seas on that route are likely to be then. Our guarantee cabin assignment is good but on deck 8 and more forward than I would have ideally chosen so we are wondering what to expect in regards to waves/motion/rocking.

  8. At the other end of the cabin spectrum: I recently booked an inside gty for a Feb sailing and was pleased that my cabin has already been assigned two months before final payment. I was "upgraded" within the category to an inside 9 even though there are a few cat. 9s still for sale for several hundred dollars more (for two people) than my guarantee price. I guess I can still hope the fairy will reappear but I'm satisfied with what I got especially since the ship is almost sold out.

  9. Thanks...I switched to 8020 which only has a sofa...no berths. Hey Lois, good to hear from you:) this is my first time cruising in awhile and I had to take an inside guarantee because OV was sold out. First time on Millie. Hope it's in good shape...people seem to love it or hate it due to its age. But Century was 15 years old the last time i cruised on it and I couldn't find any fault.

  10. Thanks bobnjeff. I switched to 8020 which seems (fingers crossed) to have 9018 above it, a cabin below it and no connecting cabin. It also is far enough down the hall that we probably won't be bothered by hearing the crew door open and shut which has been reported by some in 8000. Also two cabins between us and the forward elevator and stairs so should be quiet from that as well.

Still curious about the inside blank space the whole length of deck six. I don't remember the hall with deck 5 boutiques having an extra high ceiling.

  11. We booked an inside guarantee on Millennium and ended up with a category 9 - so not bad. However, when I look at the deck plans, all the deck 7 insides are over "white space" on deck 6. Plus, my cabin - 7046 - has a "white space" beside it.

Any clues what the white space that runs the whole length of deck 6 is?

Is the white space beside 7046 a linen closet or some other crew space that could disturb us?

I do have the opportunity to change to 8020, which appears to be under an inside cabin directly above it on deck 9 if you count cabins from the front of the ship. But if the deck plan is wonky, it might be the first cabin under yet another "white space" on deck 9. Any expert thoughts there?

Final question, is there likely to be much motion on a deck 7/8 that far forward? It's a SE Asia cruise so not sure how calm the seas would be in Feb/March.

PS I did call Celebrity but the agent clearly didn't have a clue.

  12. Looking for advice on how best to handle this 1 1/2 day stop on Millennium.

We want to see Hanoi and know it's a very long drive there and back but we are game to do that on day 1 (private tour) then do the ship's tour on day 2 in Halong Bay.

There are some who believe that a) Hanoi can only really be appreciated with an overnight and b) the short Halong Bay tours don't get far enough out to the best karsts to be worthwhile.

I would love some fresh feedback on this from those who have tendered in HB and faced a similar choice.

Was the day-trip fulfilling enough or was there really a lot to be gained with the overnight? Obviously you would really only gain the evening in Hanoi because you need to drive back to the ship in the morning.

How were the 3-4 hour HB tours? Did you see more (other than visiting a cave) than you would from the ship's deck as it sails in and out?

  13. Sorry, I know there are lots of threads on this but I haven't sailed on X for a few years and want to make sure I have this right.

I am about to book a Millennium cruise with a decent OV guarantee price and it includes a residency discount.

So, if after final payment, I see a higher category (eg AQ guarantee) at a lower price than it is now, but more than I paid for my OV guarantee, I can call Celebrity (or my travel agent if I used one) and ask for the upgrade and pay the difference?

    Is my understanding correct?

  14. Has anyone here stayed in M-class cabin 3144?

That's the very end one of the "Solsticized" third deck cabins. I've been searching this forum for references to it.

One person in 2013 found her Infinity cabin 3144 to be very noisy though I believe in general this row of cabins has had very good feedback.

Millennium 3144 is the only one of the series still available for the cruise I'm considering.

  15. I was in Capri for the day in late October last year.

We did not buy our return tickets upon arrival in Capri because we knew our ship was not leaving Naples until 11:00 pm, so not a huge deal if one of the ferries happened to sell out.

We ended up going back at around 6pm, I think. We strolled up at practically the last minute and had no problem getting tickets. I can't vouch for how crowded any earlier trips were, but Capri did not seem very crowded that day.

    Thanks Cynthia.

  16. I know it's conventional wisdom here to recommend buying a return ticket to Naples as soon as one arrives in Capri to avoid the possibility of line-ups or sold-out hydrofoils in the afternoon. That makes perfect sense to me in high season.

I'll be there on Saturday October 26. There will be one other ship in port (Serenade) plus any miscellaneous day-trippers from Rome, Naples etc.

Is it still worth getting the ticket in Capri right away or will the afternoon line-ups be minimal and allow me to get the hydrofoil whenever I want?

Also, if you buy a return ticket in Molo Beverello I know you re limited to the company that sells you the ticket but can you come back on any of their departures from Capri or just the specific time on the return ticket?

    Thanks!

Bumping this up to see if anyone, including Hank or Eurocruiser have any comments.

    Thanks.

  18. Just back from the august 11th cruise on summit. We had room 3132. I absolutely LOVED the big window and the fact that everything was new-new. Great location near two sets of stairs and main lobby, and darling little "private" hallway. However.... The room had a constant vibration, very noticeable. There was also a low-grade "helicopter" sound outside that was audible at all times... Got quite anniying by the end when trying to sleep. Room was otherwise quiet, never heard our neighbors or noise from above. No noise from conference rooms either. If it werent for the vibration and outside noise, we would book this room again.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone else has comments about noise in the central cabins in this group on Summit. We will be in 3134 in December and I would not look forward to a "helicopter noise".
