  1. Hi,

I’m glad to hear you don’t think my moan unjustified.  I love Lisbon, spent ten days there a few years back in an apartment in Bairro Alto and was really looking forward to a day there.  Mainly I’m angry and now, having been excited about this trip, really don’t want to go.  I’m fairly sure that dropping a port is not sufficient grounds for a refund however, so we’ll just have to make the most of it.  I intend to phone them though and explain why they have lost a future customer.  They won’t care but they should as we’re now in almost the best cabin on the boat.  A very expensive mistake on my part.

  2. I am booked on Borealis for the 18 day Cape Verde and Morocco trip in February 2023.  Final payment date was 5th November.  On Friday 18th I got a letter telling me that Lisbon had been dropped from the itinerary in order to “make the return to Liverpool more comfortable for our passengers”.  What a load of rubbish.  They are saving the port fees and then fuel costs by creeping back to Liverpool at 2mph.  I feel cheated and conned.  I am not one of those who are “wed to Fred”.  It is not coincidence that they waited until after final payment date to announce this.  I feel doubly cheated as a few days before final payment I got a phone call offering me a reduced price upgrade which I took.  They will now have a shipload of passengers who are disgruntled before they even board and in my case will never book with the company again.  I’m 71 so hopefully have a few more cruises in me.  Why would they deliberately sacrifice future passengers like me for a short term saving?

When I take a photo or try to upload a photo for the app, it always squishes it, whether I crop it to be a square or not, or even when I take a new photo directly for the app. Any photo tips?

Don’t bother too much about the photo.  I went to a lot of trouble getting a flattering picture then got to the terminal and they insisted on taking another to replace it, that one was not flattering!  I was not alone.  They didn’t seem to like anyone’s photo.

  4. I have just upgraded to this for a cruise in 2023 having had a lovely penthouse suite on recent Regal trip.  Unbelievably (to me at least) there was very little left to choose from so I went for this one.  It’s a premium suite, a penthouse was another £3000!  My thinking was a big balcony might not be much use on a TA.  However the room looks a bit odd, interesting sloping window in bedroom area (front facing) which is large but sitting area looks tight and the balcony tighter.  If anyone has sailed in this cabin could you tell me about it please and did you like it?

  5. Thank you very much for doing the research for me.  I had tried myself and had no luck. I must have been putting the wrong words in the search box.  Very interesting about the time differences, potentially we might see vacancies in the U.K. earlier or might miss them altogether.  There’s more to worry about right now but I will start checking the website next year.

  6. It was a waiting list for that particular category of cabin. We were on the list from the day we booked (nearly a year in advance), as were the friends we were holidaying with.  They got the desired cabin weeks before we did but it all worked out in the end.  We paid for the upgrade, £300 pp for eighteen nights.  It wasn’t a rebooking just an amendment. I don’t know if this is relevant but we hadn’t been allocated a cabin number before that, just guaranteed a mini suite.  We do have a cabin number this year so that might make a difference.  I’m not sure how it all works which was why I asked the original question.

  7. For Daniel A, there is definitely a list for upsells.  We were on it and got one last year but it was within three weeks of sailing.  Mini to cc mini which was what we wanted in the first place.  The lesson here is book early to get what you want.

  8. So sorry that I’ve confused folks with my inaccurate terminology.  I said upgrade when I should have said upsell.  Upsell is a word I didn’t know existed.  Cruzsnooze (good name) makes a good argument about decision making and it makes a lot of sense except we ate in Sabatini’s last year and weren’t impressed.  Didn’t try the steak house.  Maybe there are others on the bigger ships.  I will look at that.

I am grateful that people have taken the time to give me their thoughts.

     P.S. I’m a girl (or was once).

  9. Cr8tiv1,

Booked for 18th September to Canada and New England.  It’s 24 nights so think I may well be losing my deposit but it’s a long time away and who knows what will happen in the meantime.  I shouldn’t have believed the booking agent who said there was a really good chance of an upgrade.  You live and learn.

  10. Thanks for the replies.  I asked when I booked to be put on the waiting list for a club class.  Will I be offered a full suite should one become available or should I phone and ask to be put on that list too?  Apologies if these are naive questions but last year was our first cruise with Princess, on Pacific, in a club class mini to Greenland and we really enjoyed it.  I hate standing in queues and loved eating whenever we chose.  Thus my gamble on an upgrade.

  11. I am booked on Regal for next summer but not in the category I want as it wasn’t available.  I have gambled the £100 deposit on being offered a club class from a mini-suite.  Those who have sailed often could maybe advise on whether I’m likely to be offered anything before final payment date.  Thanks.
