We did a Western Caribbean over Christmas in 2019. It was really nice to tune out of Christmas for a month before hand. NCL will decorate the ship everywhere so it feels different. There are a lot of families with children and grandparents traveling together. It is extremely popular and the ship will be full. Watching the kids lining up to meet Santa was in the atrium was fun.
Dinner on the eves and holiday evening will book out early (so book early). Even the MDR will require reservations, so don’t be the one on Santa’s naughty list watching me eat my pudding. Menu will holiday driven.
Port day on the holiday will be spotty. Tourism isn’t the primary thing happening on the holiday, so plan excursions not to be a bucket list activity in case it gets cancelled.
These can be really fun trips with family. It will not be a quiet cruise if that is what you are looking for. You will be hitting the airports with your neighbors going to other places for the holidays, so plan flights, pre-hotels and reduce stress. There will be few “deals”, book early if you want to go.
This Christmas we are going on our second Christmas cruise out of Miami.
