Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I assume no one has any helpful suggestions - no worries, found info on my own. Good Day
  2. Any Cruisers have recommendations for tours from Ravenna to Vience while our ship is overnight in Ravenna? Any recommendations for touring Ravenna?
  3. No casino is not smoking, but Churchill is and deck 16 above pizza/burger - smoke travels down to deck 15
  4. Shamrockace - great pics - glad to see you are adventurous with the new and different. We have been to AU and NZ previously, including AU outback and Great Barrier Reef for the day - these were a precruise packgage - this was our 3rd time on AU/NZ and we were extremely disappointed to miss Wellington and Darwin. Saw the affect of COVID at Melbourne's port, it did not look like that in 2020, during our 2nd cruise of AU. Continue to be adventurous.
  5. We are also on the Island Princess- 111 day world cruise from LA - started January 19, 2023. Way to many sea days and with the jump from Taraunga to Melbourne more sea days with NOTHING to do - same "geriatric events" day after day. CD Cole isn't impressive with creativity, but once you experienced Matt O'Brian as your Cruise Director- you are spoiled, NO one is his equal. Would not recommend this cruise as a future WC, look at another cruise line and pay close attention to the long sea days.
  6. TrojanGal - if your Princess Cruise around UK hits St Peter Port - Guernsey, we suggest you take an excursion or explore the Island on your own - you won't be disappointed. This is a hidden gem in the Channel Islands. Four of us did the German Military Occupation excursion and our guide was great. The tour takes you around the Island as well as history about the Occupation. I am a history buff and my husband and his buddy are retired Army, his buddy's wife also served in the Army and this particular tour gives a very good look at the occupation and its effect on the islanders. This was our second time to the UK and many of the port stops. The highlight for my husband and his buddy was Normandy, but we had surprising enrichment at Guernsey and Liverpool (NOT for the Beatles) but for its real history - USS Alabama and the South (during the U.S. Civil War) and Cunard's Ship building. (We had sailed from NY to Southampton on QM2 before embarking on Princess Emerald.)
  7. To Everyone that gave comments about Scenic - good and bad - THANK You! Everyone was helpful and informative - now to convince hubby 😇
  8. Canal, thanks for the info. Yes it is cabin only but most 2 for one is just that. Pontac, we were looking so waiting not a problem, looking forward to your assessment. 3Shelaghs, I read the offer as cabin only, still a savings over full price. Thanks to everyone
  9. Thanks, my next query was going to be a general search of CC.
  10. GG - this promo came to me in an e-mail from Cruise Critic, so I went to Scenic's website and selected the trip went through all the info, up to payment and it came out to half, except for taxes, ins, and extra days we want on either end of cruise. Looking at the 8 day Gems of the Danube, into next year - specific months of course. Gems of the Danube 8 Days | Budapest to Nuremberg | Tour Code: NBU It’s hardly surprising that one of Europe’s longest waterways is home to so many wonderful attractions. On this luxury cruise, enjoy an enchanting private Viennese evening concert at Palais Liechtenstein and visit Regensburg Old Town.- View Itinerary1st Guest: from $4,445*2nd Guest: FREE *$350 additional in port charges per person Departure Dates: August - October 2022, April - June 2023 (excludes May 18, 2023)
  11. Hi all, Has anyone every taken a Scenic Luxury Cruise? I have heard from Viking Customers and have read a lot, but am looking at Scenic's current 2 for 1 offer and asking for Pros and Cons from any one who has actual knowledge of Scenic. I would appreciate your sharing. Thank you
  12. ENess and Turtles our bus drive from Southampton to London was 4 hours due to CONSTRUCTION! I mean major construction - highway, city streets, buildings, etc, etc. Otherwise we thought it would be the expected 2 hour drive. ENess we contracted with ADLG - they are typically a limo service for airport/cruise ports, but when researching for a driver and car for a long day for 4 adults the one company I emailed is not doing business and referred me to ADLG - adlg.co.uk and the contact person Trina arranges everything for you. Our goal was Stonehenge and so I looked for other points of interest. Bath is a Jane Austen interest and she used Bath as a backdrop in many of her books. She moved with her family to Bath when she was in her 20s. Returning to London brings you to Windsor Castle, but we choose the country drive and villages after Stonehenge, our driver was GREAT - its his forte. For 4 adults for 12 hours with an SUV size vehicle and driver our cost was 595 pounds. Of course they do shorter trips, but driving to Stonehenge was almost 2 hours and we spent a good 2 hours there because we did the Stone Circle Exp and it was worth it. They do Sunrise and Sunset, we choose Sunrise. They have lots of great reviews, too. We stayed at the Hilton Doubletree Tower of London - it is within walking distance of the Tower of London, but not centrally located. Better stay would be Trafalgar Square or Piccadilly area. Trafalgar puts you closer to the London Eye - skip the line tickets on line are your timesaver and gets you YOUR time. Great panoramic pictures from here. Other points of interest - Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Parliament and less than a mile is Buckingham Palace - Palace changing of the Guards is every day at 11:00 a.m. One hotel in this area is Trafalgar St James by Hilton - never stayed here. Cunard put us up at the Tower Bridge Hilton or we would have been centrally located. BTW - Taxies in London were worth the cost - less than 20 pounds for 4 of us. Didn't seem to matter where we went - BUT always ask the price before getting in - some were chatty others not so much. Tower of London is worth seeing and we were within walking distance. One last item the hop on hop off double decker busses are great getting around from one venue to the next, however stay away from the Tootbus hop on/off - they don't show up or when they did the bus sat for 45 minutes when other busses - Big Bus and one other had busses show up every 15 minutes. We couldn't get a refund and in Paris they never showed up at the pick up point - we used a cab and now are attempting to get our money back on that one. Sorry this is so long but hope it helps.
  13. Four of us recently - July 8-15, 2022 completed the QM2 Transatlantic. We watch waaaaaay to many YouTubes and read or heard someone's advise about 'dress code' on Cunard, specifically QM2, so we thought we went prepared - husband took a suit and one extra jacket for smart casual. The extra jacket and extra dress shirts, as well as my newly purchased black formal skirt and dress were not necessary. Men nice trousers and shirt from 6:00 pm on and ladies a nice dress or evening pants (palazzos) with nice top. Each day the tv was set to the ship station by Steward and included dress for the evening and except for their gala (formal) nights, the men did not need to wear a jacket or tie, but a collar shirt. My husband and his brother wore polo shirts. On more than one occasion we saw families wearing shorts after 6:00 pm and attending an entertainment event. It appears the upscale dress code is becoming less and less. Those men and women who did continue to dress formal every night were stunning.
  14. Hey All - we had an amazing and long day of visiting Stonehenge at Sunrise and being part of the Circle Exp - left our hotel at 3:00 am arrived in plenty of time for Sunrise - before the staff of Stonehenge. (Doubletree hotel is next to the Tower of London) Spent a good 2-21/2 hours at Stonehenge wandering around the stones and the outer area to take the unique photos and had time to talk with the security about the area and the military maneuvers going on. Then off to Bath where we spent about 3 hours touring and stopping for lunch. Prior to Bath we stopped in a small English town to explore and talk with the locals. Because of the long walk to Windsor Castle we scratched it and oped for more of the countryside and small English towns before arriving back at our hotel. It was a 12 hour day and worth it. So yes, anyone with no mobility issues can make all 3 sites in 12 hours and have ample time to get a taste of each location.
