The tender run in Flåm is quite short. Like 10-15 min if my memory serves. Not a bouncy ride either. Water was quite calm even tho the weather wasn't that great.

And we tendered in Geiranger about 7  years ago on a RCCL cruise.  Not a big deal.  I think that trip predated the one floating dock space that they currently have.

I'm not surprised at all that Flåm was a tendered port (reading this a few days late; Peregrina told me to check out this thread yesterday). When we were there in 2016 for Viking Homelands, we were tendered. And it was indicated that it would be on the itinerary included with the invoice (the little red anchor) so we weren't surprised at all. As you now know, Flåm is a very small place with a very small docking area. Adequate for fishing boats to dock and one cruise ship. Almost wrote "no cruise ships", but am looking at the pictures I took then and there was one.  There were also a bunch of other ships, along with the Star, with their ship tenders running passengers back and forth. It must be a matter of the luck of the draw as to who gets to use that single berth. 🙂

We will be aboard for the next cruise.  Our paperwork indicates that we will be tendering in both Flam and Geiranger.

  3. Zitsky - I have been to Rome a few times over the years - both on cruises and land visits, but not with Viking.   What is striking to me as to Rome and many other heavily traveled cities, is the increase in tourists.  Years ago, you could have done both Vatican City and the Colosseum on a ship tour, and we did.  Now, short of a private tour with some kind of express access, I think you would need to pick one, depending on your preferences.  I looked at the descriptions on the Viking website.  If you choose a ship tour, and if this is your first visit to Rome, I would choose the Highlights and Colosseum tour, as it appears to cover a lot of ground.

Thank you .. please tell me more.

    Where do I look ?

You go to and select the Meet and Mingle box at the top of the Viking Ocean forum page, and under the select a ship box, it reads something like “view your registered party information” and when that is viewed, it shows the cruise for which you signed up for the M and M.  It also has an option to view who is going.

Sorry but no, didn’t register. There were very few people in the Roll Call for this cruise.

I know it is possible others who weren’t in the Roll Call May have registered for M and M but I have read stories of Viking putting on a M and M spread and only a couple of people turning up .. so I didn’t want this to happen to DW and I.

As far as I can work out there is no way of telling how many people have registered for M and M (please correct me if I am mistaken 🙂).

Thank you, LM.  For future reference, you can see how many and who (with their CC name) are registered for the meet and greet.  Enjoy your cruise! 😊

  6. Thank you, LM.  We are on the next cruise starting in Reykjavik,  so I appreciate this.  You have confirmed my plan to assume that it will be cold and rainy, and hope for the best in terms of weather.

My first thought was "How cool!"  Second thought, "How crowded!"  Hope the line for the funicular is not too long, I'd like to get a photo from up there with all three in it.

I believe that you can purchase tickets in advance online, thereby bypassing the line.

No. After transfer from airport we arrived about 9:30 and we were permitted to partake of the hotel’s sumptuous breakfast buffet. We were told 2 pm for check in but we got our room at 1:40. Others waited until near 5 pm.

Thank you.   I will plan on some sightseeing in lieu of waiting around.
