    Hello Everyone,

My family and I are cruising on the Adventure next month.  My daughter is 11.5 years old.  I recently learned we can give sign out privilege to her as she is over 10.  My first response was a hard NO.  But I've been reading some reports of people who have children younger than mine who have allowed it so now I am second guessing my immediate response.  I don't want to be "that" parent LOL.  It's not her I distrust, it's others I don't trust.  She is far from a shy child and has no problems talking to strangers.  Also, crime happens on ships, we all know that.  I'm also not willing to pay for all of us to have internet so she can text us to let us know when she's leaving and where she is going.  But on the flip side, she is also not the type to leave to go do something on her own.  If she was bored she would probably just search us out on the pool deck.

So I thought I would come on here and see how other parents feel as, other than a few recent trip reports, I haven't really seen it mentioned in recent posts.

    Thanks for opinions and information

    Sara

From what I've read and understand, the app is available on Adventure so you can use the ships Wi-Fi to connect the app (which supposedly has the chat feature) without purchasing any internet plans.

I am sailing on Adventure OTS next month.  I looked on the website to see if I could purchase water or soda for my room, similar to other cruise lines but didn't find anything.  So I called the cruise line and was told that I can carry on a 12-pack of soda in cans.  After I hung up I had another question.  Is that a 12-pack per cabin?  Or can my husband and I each carry on a 12-pack of soda?

    TIA for your help

It is per stateroom which is ridiculous if you have multiple people in one room but rules are rules.

That would work for general use, but you need separate logins for the chat/texting option to be usable.

Thanks Biker19 for the info. I previously set up the kids so they could get their crown and anchor points but I did not think of creating an actual account for my 2nd oldest.

I had a similar problem.  My son turns 12 on the ship.  I was able to download the app for him on his iphone and create a user name and password.  For his birth date I just entered one that was inconsistent with what RC has on our reservation.  I was able to do it and our cruise showed up on his app.  I am curious if the chat will work with him or not.  I did buy him VOOM so it probably will not matter but since he has the app at least he can view our calendar, the daily activities, etc.

If your child is unable to use the app due to an age restriction, try signing in under your name on their phone.  I haven't taken my cruise yet, so I haven't had ship experience using the app but I've been tinkering with it only on my phone but logged in under my wifes name, my name, and my daughters and been able to access everything so I don't see any harm working around it that way

It is AMAZING that we traveled for all those years, with our kids from toddlers, through teens, and into adulthood and didn’t have the option of a cell phone (let alone an “app”) and we all survived! GASP

And I'm sure the boats back then didn't have the high passenger capacity that they do now, that alone the cases of sexually assault that occur, so no I wouldn't let any of my kids float around the ship without having the ability to contact us.  Having a meeting point means nothing if they are unable to get to it.

While the VOOM tier won't matter much for WiFi calling, the chances are much better that you'll have more reliable service on an O3B equipped ship.

We will be on Allure, which I believe is more up-to-date and I read somewhere they are using it for beta testing the chat feature with the Royal app.

Yes, I have an IPhone 7 and can do all those things on the ship. FaceTime will drop out sometimes, but it worked fairly consistent on the Oasis in October. WiFi is WiFi so if you can do it at home via WiFi you will be able to do it on the ship via WiFi, just slower.

Was this with Surf only or with Surf and Stream?   I would think it doesn't matter which you have once Wi-Fi enabled but wanted to make sure...thanks.
