I have read posts in on Cruise Critic where passengers on the smaller ships that do not have a Yacht Club have found the walkway to the entire area with the Yacht Club facility and other all passenger beach closed for the day.

The only way to get to YC facilities is by walking across the bridge which completely blocked by personnel when small ships dock.

We won't stay on the beach for more than a couple of hours, so it seems foolish to rent an umbrella for the entire day.

So - is there an area on the beach that has some shade?

Sadly no. Palm trees were planted in December and won't give you enough shade. Spend $15 for an umbrella.

    Good day!

I am wondering if anyone has done the River Tubing from Montego Bay through MSC'S excursions, or if there is a tour operator that you recommend for river rafting or tubing (not Martha Brae, too calm 🙂 when we are only in port from 1 to 7 p.m.  I assume final boarding is at 6:15 ish.  AND, in some facebook forums, the ships sometimes arrives late in Montego Bay, so that would affect things too.  I would really want to do tubing, rafting, or falls - most tours I've checked out online are morning or 12:30 departures, and Shoreexcursioneer site says we are not in port long enough for their excrusions of that type 😞  Any advice or assistance please?

    Thanks in advance!

Armonia docks in Ocho Rios and arrives late. Last week they couldn't dock so they tendered which was complete disaster and people with late group numbers got off the ship around 2PM.

Really stupid questions:  Do the cabins have hair dryers, shampoo and body wash?  We have sailed RC once(1990) and Carnival like 19 times so I am clueless what to expect on this line.

Cabins have hair dryers from 1990 , so it'll be a trip to the past for you. Bring your own hair dryer if possible.

Is it really Oceanfront, or is is a walk to the water past rows of loungers of other passengers?

None of them are ocean front. They're behind 2 rows of loungers.

These are not my photos but many thanks to whoever took them. This is a picture from a thread about the Yacht Club area on Ocean Cay, but it is an accurate portrayal of the cabana setup on all the beaches we saw.  If you stand on the pathway along the beach, looking toward the ocean, there is a line of various trees, then the row of cabanas up and down the beach, which are a decent width apart, then all the loungers on the beach, and then the water. So, you will have to cross the beach through the loungers to get to the water from a cabana. Some of the beaches, like Sunset Beach, are deeper than this so there is more distance between the cabanas, the loungers, and the water. But this is the general layout for the beaches we saw (we were not Yacht Club so I cannot comment on their beach).

Cabanas look like this with the chairs arranged inside not on the beach as shown. Some people had pulled loungers up to their cabana and had an umbrella too. Some reports are that they are comfy for 4 but would be tight for 6. YMMV. Since DH is 6'3 he would count as two in my book. 🙂

I don't know if there are actually any cabanas as close to the water as this. Perhaps this is a marketing photo? I read on one of the threads that the YC cabanas that have a direct water view are on a promontory and thus don't have water access.

The beaches that I saw with the setup I described were Sunset, Paradise Sands, Bimini, and the lagoon beaches (North and South). I cannot comment on the family cove or the YC. I don't recall seeing cabanas on Lighthouse Bay but I wasn't paying attention to that one when we went by.

Generally it will be usable from 10am to 4pm. The crew spends the morning offloading all the food and supplies for the day. Most people go back to the ship at 4pm for showers and dinner because the island buffet is only open for lunch. We left our beach at 4 and we felt like stragglers. 🙂 Then folks return to the island for the light show,  parade, and dance party.

None of them are close to the water.

Cruised Armonia January 13-20 (today). It was our second time on Armonia. Again no complaints. Entire staff excellent. Ship clean. Cabin lots of storage. Easiest way to shower is to direct water appropriately and shower without using curtain, doesn’t make too much of a mess and makes for a much better shower experience, it is a really small shower. Food In dining room very good. Buffet is smaller than on the larger more elaborate ships but it was good and adequate for us. We did miss Falmouth Jamaica due to high winds but docked at Costs Maya and Ocean Cay.  Apparently since it opened some of the other MSC ships have missed Ocean Cay due to the winter winds but to this point in time the Armonia has always made it, on the island one of the Officers gave us this piece of information and was very proud the Armonia has never had to abort. Ocean Cay - very nice, lots of lounge chairs, beaches beautiful, restrooms plentiful, showers on outside wall of every restroom, nicest bar in our opinion is the Lighthouse Bar - really nice and comfortable seating makes it a great place to sit and relax and read and enjoy your beverages for however long you want.

How many formal night on 7 day cruise and any theme nights?

It was free to get in and included nothing but access to the beach for that price. They do have food, drink, and facilities there.

How much were chairs and umbrella do you recall?

  9. Coast Guard searching for missing cruise ship crew member south of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands

U.S. Coast Guard rescue crews are searching the waters eight miles southeast of St. Thomas for a crew member of the cruise ship MSC Seaside who went overboard early Wednesday.

According to the Coast Guard, Michael M. Majaba, 37, of the Philippines, reportedly went overboard from the seventh deck of the Maltese-flagged cruise ship at about 1 a.m. Wednesday. The ship’s crew launched a search and contacted watch standers at the Coast Guard Sector San Juan Command Center at about 4 a.m., alerting them of the situation.

Watch standers diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Confidence, launched a 33-foot Special Purpose Craft Law Enforcement boat from Boat Forces Detachment St. Thomas and a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Borinquen that are currently on scene searching.

  10. geez lets not get into comparing countries and references to teachers.. schools... relax.. we hear Trumps reference to fake news always this thats what i took from it

as for teachers and schools... Canada has had 5 fatal school shootings in this 21st century.. 15 approximately since 1975... Some countries had 18 since January this year... lets leave schools and teachers out of this good grief

You should've never started. I never compare schools or countries in my message. Religion of peace will strike , it's just a matter of time. Keep taking them in.
