Our July Cloud 9 Balcony is a about $100 more per person than what we booked for.

I would not give up- keep checking. I was feeling grateful (and like a lucky winner lol) with the initial findings of reduced pricing. But then the pricing gradually started to go up again and even just this morning it higher. And then boom, this afternoon $160 less! I hope you get a deal, too! The little extra is nice.

I was focusing on the term “mask”, which naproxen would not do. Understand that NSAIDs can reduce a fever. I admit if I wasn’t feeling well the morning of a cruise I would take Motrin to help alleviate any symptoms I had.

If you take Naproxen around the clock, you honestly might not know you have a fever until you develop other symptoms. Many attempt to stay on top of their chronic pain, especially if they’re going to be active (like when on vacation). I would never attempt to sail while deliberately knowing I have this virus, so please know that.

Another good point that I had not considered. People will always find a way.

I had thought of that, due to the fact that my husband and I both take Naproxen everyday due to various injuries and resulting joint/arthritic discomfort. Certainly we can’t be the only ones. It’s likely that if we had a fever, the Naproxen would mask it.

WOW, that's a steal.  Out of what port?

We sailed over the last 4th- an 8 day on the Horizon, booked probably 18 months out and it still cost us $6500- less gratuity, etc. That trip from VT to Miami, inclusive of lodging for 6 of us was a whopping $10,000. This 4th my husband and I are cruising solo out of NYC on a 9 day Journeys to Eastern Caribbean. We booked Early Saver when we got back so a year out and it was $2400- we have so far had two price reductions so are now at a total paid of $2189! It’s a STEAL! Inside cabin on Lido.

Rx meds, I'd say 3 weeks worth beyond what you think you need for the trip.

A kindle loaded up with way more books than you think you will want to get to.

And this isn't something to pack, but I tend to book balconies and if you are stuck - having access to light and fresh air I think would make things so much more pleasant.

I saw in the news where the couple ordered wine brought to them by drone. LOL.

We’ve always been content with the inside cabin, but I keep thinking of how difficult it’s going to be if I am locked up without light or fresh air for 2 weeks straight...

Had lunch at the Pasta Bar. First of all, you can hear all the basketballs bouncing directly overhead, which seems to be a bad design decision. The food was good. A bit bland, really could’ve use some salt, but by no means bad. I had the Caesar salad, linguini noodles with meat sauce, and chicken strips. Even the strips were kinda bland. I tried the bread, too. Not my favorite, but it wasn’t bad.

I’ve been looking forward to this pasta ever since following @Gettys84 live review last April. Judging by his photos, the salads have shrunk.

Here’s the photo Gettys84 posted back then...

And here is the current serving. Not much less, but noticeable.

We’ll definitely go back. I tried a bite of my wife’s Alfredo. Again, needed salt, but good enough that I want that next time.

    And here’s the bread...

We sailed the Horizon 8 day last summer and really enjoyed our vacation. And while we never did make it for lunch, we did eat dinner at Cucina Del Capitano and it was very good! I also agree with everyone about the caesar dressing. I don’t like fish, and I like caesar salad a lot. I know they are making an authentic dressing- but I can see those fish bits and taste them and it just turns me off. I can’t eat it. I normally don’t have an issue. It’s my problem- not theirs.

  7. I’m cruising late June. Have every intention to go and am hoping that for the betterment of everyone, this matter will be a bit more managed. But also thinking of what we or others might need or want to bring should they find themselves quarantined. Has anyone personally ever had experience with one? I’ve frequently packed for my past cruises around many tips and ideas found here- but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this covered?

Thank you all for your comments.  I certainly understand that it is a difficult decision to cancel a cruise.

FYI, I am sailing on April 29th and received my email from Carnival this morning (3/8) with all the info regarding OBC (WOO HOO) and instructions for cancelling.  I am on an 8 day cruise and will receive $200 OBC.  That will cover a few dirty martinis, shore excursion, gambling.  If we are isolated, I can't think of a better place to be quaranteed than on a cruise ship.

I am 80 years old and can catch coronavirus in my local Publix, Dunkin Donuts, dentist, doctor's office, etc. I can also get it from family members if they are carriers.  Staying in my house with the curtains drawn is not an option.

I've been looking forward to this cruise which I booked a year ago and can't wait to go.  At this point in my life, I have lived through being a prime caregiver for my husband who battled brain cancer and I have lived through taking care of my twin sister who battled liver cancer and have made it through my own battle with breast cancer.  There isn't much in this world that I fear....well, maybe running out of olives for my martini.

Asking for an upgrade as I get closer to sail date is a great idea.

My family and I are definitely sailing on the beautiful Magic and taking advantage of our $200 OBC.  We look forward to gambling, drinking, snorkeling (yes, I still snorkel at my age).  I hope there are a lot more cruises in my future but you can't count on that, so....TOWANDA!!!!!!!!!

     .

I hope that when I’m 80 years old I have your mindset and tenacity!! I hope you get to enjoy every second of your vacation in happiness and in good health, and may there be plenty of olives for your martinis! Also, I now want to watch Fried Green Tomatoes! 😂

  9. We are still very much looking to our cruise in late June (and hope that so much of this will be resolved by then- for the betterment of everyone). That said, I’m glad I dragged my feet on booking excursions. We’ll make last minute plans with what’s available- should an island adventure be in the cards for us! I’m feeling badly for everyone who has missed flights, booked excursions outside of Carnival, etc.

I can attest to that being 100% true. We found that the fridge got, REALLY cold after opening the cabinet door. Of course it took several hours for it to cool down after we got to our cabin.

Same! We were on the Horizon last summer and with the cabinet door left open, the fridge was super cold!

It's 2020, the investment to be able to put photos on thumb drives has to be a minimum; all the photographers are shooting digitally anyway. And almost everyone keeps and shares photos digitally now.

All the cruiselines are still selling photos the same way they did in the 80s. There is no excuse that this process has not been drastically improved across the board.

Totally agree- I can’t imagine that converting to digital is too great an expense for Carnival- fleet wide. Especially when undergoing a 200 million dollar renovation (as with Radiance). I will be sailing Radiance in June and am disappointed they won’t offer be a digital thumb drive as I was provided on the Horizon last June. Funny story- I lost my hard copy photos. We actually tossed them in the trash as we were exiting our cabin and didn’t realize it until we were home. We never reported it because we had that thumb drive, but our steward located them and kindly had them sent to us! We were very impressed! As the previous person had said, we would spend MUCH MORE money on the photos if all of the images taken of our family were provided to us on a thumb drive.

I booked through costco for my Aug 8th breeze trip.  We are on deck 11 spa balcony.  It looks like there are no cabins in this category left, so how do I know if there is a price drop?  Never done this before.  Thanks!

I’m in a similar situation where there are no cabs left in my category. You will need to find a layout of the ship decks and see what other cabins are in the same category as yours. Then when you do a price check- look to see if those cabins/categories are available. I know that I will need to find a cabin available in category 4G on deck 8 or 9 of Radiance to qualify (I’m currently on deck 9-Lido), and thus far- nothing. I’ve found the website icruise.com to be helpful with ships/decks/categories. Good luck!

If you go to the deck plans on Carnival's site and click on the cabin, it'll show you its category.

I started poking around after and noticed I could locate that information. When I went back to the Carnival website, the cabin on deck 7 was no longer available. There are only cabins now available on deck 1 and I know those are not the same. I’ll keep checking- it may pop up again!

Just a note to remember to check your bookings even with a limited quantity of specific type of cabin.  We had a deluxe scenic ocean view with the floor to ceiling windows (very few of these), didn't expect any price drop and was fine with the pricing at time of booking.  But then one dayI was just curious, checked and there was another cabin available that I could price match to, and saved another $60 off our booking.  So just saying. . . .  you never know.

We have an interior booked on deck 9 and they are all sold out. They are also sold out on deck 8. There is 1 interior left on deck 7 for a savings of $160. I’m not sure if they are in the same category though because they are two floors apart?

I see that the renter also has to "replace gas used." Do you actually have to stop and refill it or is it just an additional fee? Do you remember how much gas cost you?

I think we want to do this too, so am also interesting an answer to the gas question.
