They wrote out a proper receipt though - all the wines identified, ship and cabin number so I let them do it.  The wines showed up in our cabin about an hour later but it seems to defeat the purpose of carry on to save work for the stewards IMO.

This is what happened to us.  I kept thinking it was a waste of work for the room steward, but I was happy not to lug around 12 bottles.

  2. On our last HAL cruise they took our wine from us just AFTER we went thru Security.   The gal asked our room #, tagged the bottles and they delivered them to our room (we paid the corkage on all but 2 bottles as expected).   However, my folks just paid the corkage, they put stickers on the bottles and then they told my parents to take the bottles with them.   My parents boarded at a different time.

I just wondered what the correct way, as I'm trying to decide how many bottles of wine I want to lug around if they make us take the bottles with us on board.

  3. OP here.....I'm gone for a day and I wasn't here to defend myself.

First of all, I thought I was starting a poll, but for some reason posted in the thread section....I've never started a poll and apparently I screwed it up.   I tried to "EDIT" the post to be an actual poll but it wouldn't let me.....thus you see my edit.

Secondly, I realize this is not a Nationwide Poll regulated by some government agency.   I just saw the other thread that had something like 1,000 (don't quote me on the exact figure) posts and I was just trying to figure out how to find out in a ONE WORD answer the feel of people.   Obviously, I needed to add a bunch more instructions regarding this.   A lot of you have ADD apparently :classic_blink:

    Any questions????

  4. Argh, ya all are making my head spin :classic_blink:

My intent of this post is for the poorer people like myself to try to sock away a little $ away at a time in OBC so we don't have shell shock at the end of the cruise.  A lot of us don't have the luxury of big savings, stock accounts, inheritance, etc.

I'm trying to help some people with other options instead of buying a beverage package and getting hoodwinked when they realize it doesn't pay for itself.   The OBC suggestion is a way of saving a little extra money to pay for drinks rather than charging it to a cc which like some of us with the best of intentions don't manage to pay it off monthly.

Ask for extra blinis. I wound up a little short on them. My wife did not though. She's a more skillful caviar stacker than I am.

I'm a bad stacker too :classic_huh:   Only 3 more days and I'll be sitting down in PG with my caviar!!!

We were on the Eurodam in December 2016 and it was $70. It's in my Live From thread. IIRC, I said that I never should have posted about what a great deal it was in 2014.  Regardless, $70 for an ounce of Osetra with all the accouterments is still a pretty good deal. Caviar isn't exactly something everyone goes for, and you don't have to buy it if you don't want to.

Oh, I'm splurging for it......at least once :classic_biggrin:

  7. I just called Ship Services (because I had nothing better to do) and asked.  My response was this:

ME:  Just curious if the $10 for an additional entree in the MDR is still in effect because the trial was supposed to be ending March 31st.

HAL:   Well, I'm not sure.....let me go find out for you.

    ME:   Thank you

HAL:  The trial has officially ended as of March 31st and there is no longer a charge for an additional entree in the MDR.

    ME:  Thank you!

While I realize you can get 3 different responses from 3 different people, I just thought I'd pass on the info.   May call later and see what kind of answer I get.

  8. Along the same question.....Do you use the HAL Navigator app or the Ship Mate app?

Our main goal is to text each other and look at our account balances and itinerary.   Do these apps both do the same thing?

Previously was $10 for second entree.  One night we asked for the Lobster Mac and Cheese as an appetizer to share and paid $10 because it was an entree.

    cheap ass son's of beeches...

But I'll bet it was worth the $10 :classic_biggrin:

  10. I don't see why not.   It's not a package where it is regulated by the amount of drinks you can order in one day.  You get or purchase a $50 beverage card, you get $50 in drinks whether you use it all the 1st day or spread it out over 7.

OP, yes, we are on the Tales of the South Pacific 51 day cruise Oct 28-Dec. 18.  I will try to remember to post and let you know what our bar bill was, lol.

Wow, you will miss Halloween, Thanksgiving and almost Christmas!   That's one looooong cruise and I wish I was going with you!   Don't envy your bar tab 😂

At the other end she may have a more difficult time getting up on the pier from the tender -- it is a big step.

Also, if it's windy it can be more tricky if the tender is a wobbling.   And as Krazy Kruizers said....it's a BIG step.

Did you notice the menu also says there will be a $15 charge for any additional entree?  I can't remember if that was there before.

I think the higher charge for caviar went in last year; I have seen it for a while.  Disappointing.

I believe this was on the menu when we sailed Oct 2017, but it was never enforced.   Could be wrong tho, but that's what I seem to remember.   They were out of caviar on this cruise and they tried to substitute it with salmon roe/caviar....just not the same and it tasted like salmon eggs I fish with :classic_wacko:

We always do Main Seating (Fixed Late) and tend to book Specialty Dining at the same time whether that is 7:45, 8:00 or 8:15 on the particular ship we are on.  We do take our time to eat and have never missed a show we wanted to see,  If we REALLY do not want to miss the show, we simply inform our waiters when sitting down.

We're like you, we like to take our time eating and not feel like we have to rush to get to a show.   Now that I know the 2nd show starts at 10:00, we will have plenty of time if we make our reservations for 7:00.

  15. I know this is very subjective and it depends on if you are in port, etc., but thought some of you may have some good suggestions for us since we are eating in the Specialty Dining venues the entire cruise.

We need to come up with a set time since there is no anytime dining available in these venues and I need to book the times in advance.

    My thoughts are this:

    1.  If we eat too early, we probably won't be too hungry if we go to tea, or have a Dive Burger for lunch.

    2.  If we eat too late, we miss the shows, night life.

Trying to come up with a happy medium, but thought some of you may have some good ideas/thoughts?
