  1. Be sure to check the expiration date.  I got home and found the Retin-A I purchased was expired.  I still used it and my face did not melt. Haha

Check out the pharmacy at MEGA, they have most of what you might look for and it is the best price, as I have checked.  Once my friend got sick day one of a seven day cruise.  Took her to the infirmary and she received IV meds every day and in Coz was ordered off the boat and not to return until we had a bill of health from one of the two hospitals on the island.  The first two pharmacies were crazy expensive for antibiotics (and I WAS checking, Retin-A, *****-for friends!, etc.), and last stop was MEGA, where they had it all and it was reasonable.  Next door to MEGA is La Europea, their best liquor store on the island.

  2. Anyone beside myself not happy with having to walk through that looooong Dufry store, where we are not allowed to exit until we walk through the entire stinkin' store"-although crew can happily walk around the big building, and I find that we can only walk slowly as large groups stop and ogle the merchandise?  I am not a hater, but have no desire to waste 15 minutes or so behind gawkers and repeatedly say, "excuse me", "excuse me", just to pass through a store I have NO INTEREST IN.  Again, not a hater, but resent being forced through the store gauntlet when we are eager to get our rent car and hot foot it over to the other side of the island.  Combined with the reduced time port, only 6-7 hours.  We like to rent a car and see some of the sights, snorkel along the reefs on the west side of the island, then visit Chen Rio and Puenta Morena.  If the Park Rangers are cooking fish, we like to say hi and they often share their lunch.  I love the SE side of the island where you can view >180 degree of nothing man made and the only company are Gila Monsters sunning themselves on rocks.  See we have a full day enjoying Coz and a round trip through Dufry's is a waste of the TIME we PAID for in COZUMEL and we resent some of it wasted in a store we have absolutely no interest in.

Ahhh, I remember the days of docking at the International Pier at 7am and not sailing until midnight.  Those were long and enjoyable days.

Additionally, has anyone used the bycicle operated cabs to/from the ship and end of the walkway?  If so, does that allow us to bypass the Dufry store at the end of the pier?

I like the stores ONCE we pass through the congested Dufry store.

    Thank you

  3. Its nice to reminisce from the good old days, when cruising was actually classy. You can't compare these ships to todays standards, yes some good did come with time, but you can't replace the mahogany and brass, the intimacy, the interaction between passengers and crew...how many of you danced with the captain or officers at the cocktail parties where caviar was served, and the champagne flowed.

I sailed the Seabreeze and Britannis a couple of times, but mostly we sailed the Regal Empress. Most of the time Captain Rolf was at the helm, and boy did he like the ladies. That ship smelled like diesel fuel and old socks, but it was pure class.

I miss the days of ocean liners as compared to cruising. Give me diesel fuel odors, old socks and the smell of teak decks drying in the sun after their daily scrub. Some of the happiest days of my life.

  4. This happened to my father in law last week on Carnival, a chip of porcelain in his side dish. He discreetly let the waiter know who shared with the woman at the host desk. My FIL wasn’t hurt and just wanted to give a heads up but they were really impressed with how everyone handled it. Guest services called a couple of times to be sure he didn’t need medical attention and they even sent a plate of chocolate covered strawberries as an apology. He never considered asking for anything or taking legal action. It was an accident and handled appropriately.

THAT is the classy way to handle such a situation.

  5. My favorite breakfast for the first day at sea is always to go to the dining room and order (1) Egg Benedict, a little fruit or prunes. Sometimes with a side of corned beef hash or crispy bacon. Glass of tomato juice or a Bloody Mary, depending on my mood. The order is the same, regardless of which ship I am on.

CCL's Sea Day Brunch is marvelous. Go early and late on another day. Very inventive and enjoyable menu offerings, try the Hendy Diablo, it's delicious!

  6. The only thread I could find about this was several years old. Does anyone know if the pharmacies in Belize City will sell antibiotics without a prescription? Any idea of the price? Thank you.

It's all there and it's all cheaper than Cozumel.

  7. Hi all! I am always scouring the web for the FunTimes, so I made it a point to save mine on my last cruise and use the high-def scanner at my office to then upload them here:

Please let me know if this link doesn't work! I will try to follow this with a quick review of my cruise as well. Thanks :)

    Dear Heather,

Bless you for SCANNING, and with such a quality device. You put to shame photos of the funtimes...which are NEVER legible! Thank you.

  8. I didn't keep them, I always toss them daily. There were numerous activities all throughout the day and evening. If you want to stay busy you will have your choice of several types of entertainment and games and dancing. The cruise director had something going on non-stop.

I get two copies each day; one to mark up with my highlighter and the second as a souvenir for my parents after scanning for other cruisers.

  9. This happened to me in 2015, CCL Conquest, 7 days. I was told to wait in the terminal-which I did for nearly 5 hours. Not one CCL or terminal person knew what to do. I, too, insisted on completing a report at the cruise terminal and headed to the FFL airport. AS I WAS BOARDING THE LAST FLIGHT HOME my cell rang...it was a Publix grocery store employee saying my luggage had been dropped off in TALLAHASSEE. How the heck did my luggage travel from Fort Lauderdale to TALLAHASSEE??? I missed my flight and HAD to get home--no way to dash to TALLAHASSEE and make the last flight out in minutes. Carnival dropped the ball at every opportunity. Ten (10) days later, FedEx GROUND dropped the bag on my front porch w/o any documentation and did not even ring the bell. My brand new bag was beyond filthy, it had not been placed in a box (this was a small carry on sized bag). I begged Carnival for a box, to ring the bell, to instruct Fedex to hide the bag (all the OTHER FEDEX/UPS drivers all hide packages) but ALL THIS FELL ON DEAF and uncaring EARS. Needless, no apology from Carnival. My bag simply fell between their cracked process. I was just another customer (>53 cruises!!!) who bag had been placed on a Carnival leased truck. The Publix employee was the only shining light in this nightmare-she informed the bus driver had no idea what to do with my bag, so he merely dumped it at a grocery store. Why Carnival does not empower its employees and vendors to take a tiny bit of initiative is the real issue. In 2017, everyone is focused on JUST DOING THEIR JOB TO KEEP THEIR JOB.

  10. Dear Bury Me at Sea and Badfinger,

    Love both your names!

We are going on the Breeze in December and would love to get copies of the daily papers (I will always call them the "Capers" and not FunTimes - although they are FUN TIMES!) for my friend who is in joining me. Want her as prepared as much as possible. Would either of you be willing to scan them for us? The cruising dot me has dailies, but they are from 2014, sailing out of Miami and on an 8 day trip.

Thank you and look forward to you reviews.

    Marne, the Cruisin' Fool

BTW could you post a photo by using the "insert image" icon above, fourth from the right?

  11. I was able to. Mine were booked as separate trips, so you would need to look at your personalized or call to check.

PLC, will automatically and without your approval take two trips you've booked back-to-back on the same vessel even if after the first week you do a turnaround in the same port get right back on the ship because Customs forces you to do that by the way, it will be booked as one single Transit. Having said that, I do not know if they will force you to buy drink package for both sections of the trip first week and second week.

  12. Why post ridiculous lies like this? The guy would be fired immediately.

IF that happened it would only be once.

GO TO THE REPEATER party!!! I give a tip, sit near the bar and tell the waiter to keep them coming. Pina Coladas keep overnight (as if) in the stateroom fridge. You can order any reasonable drink at the repeater party. I will be on my 53rd and 54th cruise in Q4 2017.

  13. I have to agree. We have sailed from the Port of Houston 7 times over the years. Only once did we have an issue with the fog. Our debarkation was delayed until 8pm, but we made the first port on time.

We just sailed from Houston on 1/18/15 and it was the easiest embarkation and debarkation we have had on any of our 55 cruises.

    Dear DebJ,

Thanks for not hatin' on Houston! I enjoyed sailing out of Bayport, too.

  14. Fairsky what a wonderful ship. It was the last steamship in the princess line that sailed in the US. She had a huge fireplace in the horizon lounge however due to Coast Guard regulations we could never fire it up. I sailed on her when she before she was unfortunately sold princess. Excellent English crew and officers and even better Italian staff in the dining room, oh my the food in the main dining room was out of this world hands down the best cruise food ever eaten.

  15. Thank you for all the pictures of those plastic cups, but that's not what I was asking about. Specifically, I was asking about glass as in breakable glass mason jar's with the handle that had the carnival logo on the left side of the handle. Does anyone know about that? I don'tcare about those stupid plastic cups. Specifically glass as in they break if you drop them, mason jars with the carnival logo on one side.
