Obviously, the Captain is doing a sea test run to check the noise and vibration. How's the handling? What's the maximum speed he is comfortable with? What kind of itinerary would be possible at the reduced speed? What are the weather conditions for the next week?

    You're find out tomorrow afternoon.

Whatever has been decided. Some people will be unhappy. Should the NA sail with one pod, many people will be delighted to get on board. Some will be unhappy with the noise and vibration? Some with the reduced itinerary.

Should they cancel next week. Some will be delighted by the compensation. Others unhappy with the disruption.

At some point, they will get the pod repaired. Those passengers will be affected. It's a lottery.

I’d be happy just to board. I’m supposed to sail on 12/21 over Christmas and would literally be happy with 7 sea days over a cancellation. I’ve been following the ship closely over the last 24 hours and wish I could guess what would happen. In any event, I’m hoping for a Christmas miracle. I know HAL is doing the best they can and don’t fault them for the unexpected happening but at the same time I am

hoping that our holiday isn’t ruined. Fingers crossed for all.

Samanthac25, I noticed on the NA 12/21 CC rollcall a number of people are cruising with teens. Maybe, on your rollcall, those with teens could begin strategizing backup plans as budgetary concerns, desired activities and your teen's interests probably have some commonalties. If the worst happens, it might lead to a fun, group backup plan and location.  And, if your NA cruise sails (hopefully, hopefully, hopefully) as planned, all will have made some pre-cruise connections leading to extra shipboard fun. Wishing you the best!

I love this idea! I’ll wait and see what happens tomorrow and maybe reach out to fellow cruisers tomorrow in the event of a cancellation.  Thanks for thinking of us 😊😊

I’m on the 12/21 sailing with my girls as well! In same predicament as you with no back up plan as we’ve saved and been so anxious and excited for this sailing! Hoping and praying we get to go...if not our Christmas is just nothing then!

Fingers crossed! This week coincides with both Christmas and my daughters 14th birthday. This trip was THE gift.. Hopefully we all get our Christmas miracle 😊

Hopefully you have a back up plan just in case they cancel.  Obviously they won't be able to move all of the passengers to other ships.

There's no back up plan for us. I worked 2 jobs and saved for over a year to be able to go on this vacation with my 14 year old daughter. I don't have the means to book another trip for next week if it's cancelled... In the event of a cancellation, we will be home with no holiday 😞

I know that there are 2000 people anxiously awaiting to hear what the decision will be tomorrow. I am sure that I am not the only one that won't have a back up plan that involves a vacation.

Not really,  the price those on the 12/14 NA sailing paid  is being forwarded to a future cruise credit.  They are not getting a refund plus a future credit.

HAL said yesterday that they are getting both a refund and future cruise credit:

Guests will receive a full refund of cruise fare and taxes paid, hotel package costs, prepaid shore excursions and amenities, and any additional travel fees resulting from rebooking air tickets. They will also receive a 100% Future Cruise Credit equal to the amount of the cruise fare paid.

I don’t know what to make of it and maybe it’s nothing but the NA is still docked at Terminal 21 and there’s virtually no activity around the ship.  There have been some tankers trucks (water/fuel?) but not apparent activity at the stern which is clearly visible on the webcam.   Waiting for a part?  Waiting for a decision or decisions from the authorities and company about cruising with only one azipod?

Those who were supposed to sail on the 14th had the option to stay on the ship last night to use it as a hotel. Maybe they are waiting for everyone to disembark?

We are on the 12/21 sailing also. I guess we will have to wait until 3pm Tuesday to find out. The suspense is killing me. Have to go with the flow for now.

It's killing me too! I called this morning and they didn't have any additional info (as expected) but they also let me know that the 7 day sailing leaving on Sunday 12/22 (I forget which ship) is now sold out as of this morning. Last night when I checked there was availability in most stateroom categories. My guess is that some have already made the switch.

Until the next cruise is actually cancelled, if you call to cancel, you'll have penalties, since you're only a week out from the cruise.

Good point. I am sure there are some rooms available on the 12/20 and 12/22 HAL sailings out of Port Everglades but definitely not enough to accommodate the 2000 passengers that would be effected in the event of a cancellation on NA. Fingers crossed until Tuesday at 3 and hoping for good news.

I hear that the cruise for 21st is also cancelled. Might be more serious than you think.

In this case, I support HAL's decision. Better to give more notice to the passengers.

Where did you hear that the cruise scheduled for 12/21 is canceled? I’m booked on that cruise and the latest I’ve heard is that they will make a decision and inform us by Tuesday at 3pm.

  10. With NA currently out of commission, does anyone know of HAL might allow future cruisers to change sailings? We are supposed to be on next Saturday’s sailing (12/21) and am concerned that it may be canceled. I’m wondering if we’d be able to change to a different ship/itinerary? I’m going to call tomorrow but thought I’d ask here in case anyone has had any experiences with changes. Thanks!

Yes, your holiday trip might end up ruined but Christmas will still happen and, unlike some families involved in recent cruise related fatalities, you will have your loved ones for the holidays. Hoping your cruise isn't cancelled but wishing you a Merry Christmas wherever it finds you...

Thanks for the kind words. I actually booked this one with my 14 year old because we don’t have any family left after my mother passed away last year and we didn’t want to spend the holiday at home alone and sad. Losing our vacation over Christmas would be devastating for both of us this year. Hoping for the best and that we sail as planned.

  12. This is my first HAL Cruise too... I’ll be on NA on 12/21, sailing 7 nights over Christmas. I am planning to dine at Pinnacle and Tamarind at least once each. Since it’s Christmas week, I’m not completely sure how to decide which nights to dine at the specialty restaurants. I am hoping we can get a sneak peak at the MDR menus for the week as soon as we board but not sure of HAL allows that. If anyone has Christmas

dininf experience, I’d love to know your preferences for the MDR vs specialty dining for the holiday meal 😊
