Book with your travel agent (so long as there are no fees or cancellation fees not coming directly from NCL). Most people book dining and show themselves online exactly 120 days prior to departure. Your TA can help you, but it must be exactly 120 days out.

Make sure your cruise goes to Glacier Bay. Spend a few extra $$ on a balcony room. Enjoy.

to give you an idea on what happens on a non-Glacier Bay cruise, skim through my live posts from Alaska for the past two years.

It looks like it does? It says glacier bay. So I assume that means we cruise it? Is there something I need to clarify or verify?

  2. We are booking our first cruise and it is alaska sea and land.

I have been told kids are frowned upon on alaska cruises, but they have to come with us. We did not like Disney's cruise itinerary.

We thought we were going to book norwegian jewel, but after reading some I'm wondering about princess.

Our kids will be 4 and 7 and will need activities on board (included in cruise fees). They also have a lot of allergies so food needs to be handled carefully. Which line would be better? NCL vs princess? Royal Caribbean didnt have our itinerary we wanted.

Things we really want to do are:

    Tundra wilderness tour at denali

    Mount aleyska tram ride

And we prefer to go north bound from vancouver.

  3. Thank you for this. We have been researching alaska for 2 days! It is a trip 12 years in the making and out very first cruise!

We decided on norwegian cuz we have kids and itinerary looked more to what we wanted. We reached out to princess, but they were so rude on the phone. I might ask a TA to look into it.

I will say we have done a bit of reading on denali because some tours offered natieal history tour and others wilderness tour. From what I've read- the main way to get into Denali and see the most is the wildnetness tour because they limit the cars. We nervously opted for this trip (plan to bring loaded tablets for kids) because it is alaska and this was a must see. 🙂

  4. We are going on our very first cruise in aug 2020. We wanted to go without kids but no one would watch them. 🙂

so we are doing norwegian jewel to alaska north bound then land tour. Kids will be 4 & 7.

I'm so nervous! We are in process of booking and have no clue what to expect. Not sure how cruises work, and not sure what kids need beyond kids camp 🙂 do we book TA or NCL? There is $200 difference.

we have perk of kids sail free or are discounted. Seems they have upgrade to specialty dining for guests 1 and 2- no clue what this means. 🙂

my kids have tons of food allergies.

I'm told things are included. Beyond excursions at ports- what will we need to pay for? What are must knows of cruising with kids? And please let's hope youngest potty trains. It's been over a year of thinking he was there and then not! He turns 4 in nov, so will be almost 5 🙂 also- any must do/see with kids this age re excursions?

    please help 🙂

  5. We are booking our first cruise, and it is a big one- alaska! We have never cruised before.

I've been on phone with NCL and other cruise lines. Someone recommended a local travel consultant. I spoke with them.and they did a few quotes for us and answered a lot of questions.

I was ready to book and spoke to a personal consultant with NCL and they cautioned against using a TA. They said that by using an agent if we had any questions NCL wouldnt be able to help us. The TA said that not true. It's just reservation they cant change.

So what do we do? I'm clueless on cruise. I've also never used a travel agent. We do have questions about cruise, esp re dining due to multi allergies in group.

Both have same perks and travel agent is $200 cheaper than NCL.

So do we book with TA (free) or do we book with NCL? TA has been helpful so I feel bad but I dont understand what is meant by NCL cant help us since we used an agent.

    Help please 🙂
