I wish I shared your optimism about there not being much more moaning. It seems to be rather prevalent in several threads at the moment. Do we have reliable corroboration about the ‘Iona Cadiz situation’ yet. A report on a social media site isn’t necessarily sufficient evidence to judge reliability.

I've just received the Executive Office's reply to my question:

    QUOTE

Thank you for your e-mail to our Executive Team and for taking the time to write to us.

I do appreciate your concerns following a party of guests being disembarked in Cadiz, Spain due to positive test for Covid-19. I can advise to you that each case would be assessed on an individual basis to care for the health of the guest, but we have all the protocols in place to protect the wellbeing of all on board.

With regards to your comments and having contacted the relevant management, we would ask our guests to ensure their travel insurance policy fully covers them in relation to Covid and any situation in this regard.

    Kind Regards

I had spelled out some detail the fact that at that point 4 companies had said no cover for quarantine without a positive test. I have now responded that I'm up to 12 companies with only two offering abandonment as an option.

The reply, unfortunately, appears to put all the onus on individuals rather than offer any comfort or suggested solution.  I am not impressed.

While Megabear 2 is doing incredible work  researching insurance policy's  and Pete 14 makes a valid point in regards social media. It seems P and O and possibly other companies have protocols in place which negate insurance policy's we are required to have. P and O answers to Megabear 2  are smoke and mirror answers. Maybe P and O and the cruise industry would be more open if the Questions were being asked by newspaper reporters or our local MP in Government.

As part of restart plans, P&O were required to agree protocols with each port that they visit. These protocols are not the same for each port, country and in some cases, can vary by cruise (think half term with lots of unvaccinated kids).

As has been mentioned before, the Captain is required to declare, prior to arrival at each port, any communicable illnesses on board (amongst other things). If the protocol for that port is to disembark then that is what will happen. Protocols do vary between ports which is ultimately why there is not a publication on the website.

This is all what has led to such stringent insurance requirements. I believe, that if it is your travelling companion who is ill and you are removed from the ship too, whilst not ill, then it is the companion's insurance that incurs the cost of meeting the legal obligation for you to quarantine - not your insurance. Most people travel on a couple/family policy so this is one of the same.

Anyone who has ever had to visit the ship's doctor will know how expensive it is just to have an appointment to diagnose. Unless its changed, suspected symptoms of covid cases are seen for free - that is how important this is seen.

Hi All not a regular poster more of a browser of all the interesting comments and opinions. This subject has me boggled. while I understand that we as customers are responsible for taking out appropriate insurance cover. I have taken out cruise specific cover for all of P and O stipulations. But as I have taken out couple insurance for myself and wife which will cover covid.

Providing we both test positive, if only one of us tests positive as a couple sharing a cabin P and O/port authority protocols dictate that we are both to be disembarked and quarantined.

If we are disembarked under these circumstances and one of us fails to contract covid, surly P and O would have to foot the bill for evicting someone from a cruise just because they might have covid.

Has P and O taken out appropriate insurance in order to have these protocols and agreements because I have not been able to find in any advice from P and O that we should all have individual cover which should cover you for repatriation, medical and quarantine costs if you fail to contract covid.

    Hi Rob,

My understanding is that if P&O cancels a cruise (as opposed to you preferring to transfer), which you have booked using a FCC, then you have the same options as a passenger who paid wholly in cash and also had the cruise cancelled by P&O.

This means that you can either claim a 100% refund of the total cash that you originally paid (not the increased 25% amount of the FCC), or you can opt to "re-use" the FCC against another cruise.

However, the value of your second FCC does not go up by another 25%, only a 25% increase on any extra amount you paid in cash towards the second cruise deposit, if applicable.

This should be claimed via completing the online form.  Screenshot the submission for proof.  Ignore any dodgy cancellation invoice you receive.

Some people have been reimbursed back to their original method of payment within 60 days (quoted time), others are waiting 120 days plus.  The payment may come through a TA if you did not originally book direct with P&O. The law is 14 days and whilst technically you should not have to claim the refund, P&O are requiring customers to complete the online form.

If P&O mess you about, then you may be able to pursue a "chargeback" or "section 75 claim" with your debit or credit card company respectively.  Consider taking this step if P&O breach the 60 day timeline.  You can do this from 14 days, but I found it easier to claim when I was able to flag that the company set Covid-19 timeline (60 actual days) had been missed.

    Hope this helps you.

Hi No Pager thank you Kind regards Rob.

This appears to be a combination of P&O intransigence and an administrative error.

I would not hold out too much hope for Customer Services, either on the response time, or the content.  However, escalate the issue within Customer Services if they do not propose what you feel is a reasonable solution / compromise.

My advice to you would be to cancel the 13 night cruise next year and apply the deposit, notionally, on any short cruise of your choice - so you will not have to pay anymore.  Then when the 2022 brochure is released, transfer again to a 7 night cruise of your choice.  Then you won't get stung.

I don't know how open you are to moving away from P&O.  What I would say is that we costed up a Fred Olsen cruise on the same dates (one week) of our cancelled Iona cruise.  The price was cheaper, with OBC and a drinks package, and gratuities included.  You do not have to get stung if you are prepared to consider other lines.  Doesn't have to be Fred, just an example.

The only way to avoid getting stung in P&O 2021 is to look at a lower season alternative, where fewer passengers have used FCCs.  Do this quickly if that's your choice, as you now have potentially tens of thousands of Oceana passengers doing the same from 10am this morning.  The pricing problem on P&O is only going to get worse in 2021.

Hi No Pager on subject of FCC if a person were to decide to accept FCC on a deposit paid for cruise. Then use FCC for a booking which is then cancelled by P and O would the person be able to claim a refund in cash for the cancellation. Kind regards Rob

Yes, to be honest I was being a little provocative in  my comnents!

I can see the appeal of a fine piece of understated craftsmanship. It's the "bling" type watches that scream "look at me!" thay I find unappealing. It's like the difference between a black Roll Royce and a gold plated Cadillac. One says class,  one says classless.

As a first time cruiser I have been enjoying the banter on tables for 2 all four pages,😀 but now I have to guess which car I should arrive at the port in my Rolls or the wife's gold caddy. Advice please.😁
