I note you were on the Sky Princess in September shortly after our cruise that ended Sept 16. During our entire cruise one of the forward elevators was closed for maintenance which I found odd - it was a 14 day cruise so obviously something that must have required a part or team they were waiting on. I’m just wondering if the elevator you experienced this on was one of the forward elevators? Maybe there were still issues. I’m so sorry you experienced that - it must have been very frightening. I agree you deserved a more caring and professional response and that elevator should have been taken out of service - especially if it was the same one they were clearly experiencing problems with just weeks before.

It was foreward yes and was out of action for the first few days of our cruise. The Captain told us it had a pulley system that didn't work well in rough weather, so to keep it in service later it was taken out of service on boarding. Along with another. If you can understand any coherent reasoning from that explanation I'd love to know. I assure you that was the reason he gave but he also gave the impression it was working.

You did the right thing by going to Guest Services.  But I would not have stopped until I was given the opportunity to speak to the manager immediately.  His/her office is just to the side of the counter.  They could have/would have paged him/her immediately.  The office is in a private area and would have afforded you some privacy.

Thank you for sharing.  Were you the only occupants?

We were speaking to the Manager, I asked several times to fill in a formal complaint form and sign it but was told that wasn't company policy.  I asked if we could move somewhere private but was told there was nowhere, I wasn't even allowed to sit down.  Unfortunately it was the day before disembarking and we had packing to do, photos to choose and collect and we were getting nowhere with the "manager". Taking it out of service was the Engineer's decision she said but at that point he had not been informed. We were the only ones in the lift which was really unusual. It really never crossed my mind that they would doubt what we said.

If it was that serious why aren't you warning us all about it?

It concerns one of the lifts which first of all closed as normal then a notice came on the button panel saying get out immediately when the doors open, the doors would not open and no one answered the emergency button. Then it started to shake and dropped from 12 to 5 still shaking and warning to get out flashing. We went straight to report it and Guest services was extremely busy as it was day before disembarking. I was still shaking and crying but we were not offered any privacy or allowed to put anything in writing. There was quite a long gap between us reporting it to an Engineer contacting us and the lift remained in service all the time.  That is the issue that concerns me most, that it wasn't taken out of service and the main point I wanted to raise so our experience couldn't happen to anyone else.

I also wanted to know if they could offer some privacy to anyone upset whatever the circumstances,  I don't mean angry and abusive, which we weren't, but having a natural reaction to being really scared.

  4. On our cruise starting 23.9.23 we had a safety incident which I can't get over. We followed all the correct procedures but the response from Guest Services was completely inadequate and left other Guests at risk of the same thing happening to them.  Having done everything requested on board I feel that the situation now needs reporting to the Executive Board and I wondered if anyone knew of a contact who is responsible for safety. I made it clear at the time I am not looking for anything other than doing all I can to prevent this happening again.  As an indication of how scared we were we have cancelled our next Princess cruise and lost a lot of money.

Someone next to us once always put their dirty dishes right in front of our door and I almost went flying when I stepped on a tray of dishes not expecting it to be there.  They certainly weren’t our dishes .. maybe somebody thought they were ours and slid them back in front of our door.  Don’t do that!  You may not be teaching a lesson to the person you’ve intended.

We either take our dirty dishes back to where to got them or call for a pick up.  Now, there is a place in the app under ‘services’ where you can order your dirty dishes to be picked up.  They never tell you to put them in the hallway.

Just off Sky Princess and that's exactly what we were told every time I asked.

I hope you get better soon!

I would also not abandon the entire cruise line you have enjoyed over the years over one CS representative. She may have been new and was told she had to inquire about the cancellation reason.

I'm onboard a Princess Cruise at the moment, not my first, and I can confirm that CS has deteriorated to the point that I would never set foot on this beautiful vessel again. It was only April we were last on and the difference is startlingly obvious. Wherever you are on the ship someone is talking about the huge drop in standards and attitude to paying customers.

We do not have insurance for missed ports here in Quebec, Canada. But I agree with you completely. We go on a cruise and we hope to visit the ports mentioned in the itinerary but if they are missed for safety reasons we just make the best of it on the ship.

On one cruise back in January 2020 we missed a port I really wanted to go in New-Zealand. I was pretty sad about it but nothing I could do it was for safety reasons as the winds were high and it was a tender. We went up to the pool area and the crew decided to throw a pool party. They were offering drinks and passed food around ( nachos, fries, hot-dogs and more) it was a blast! Your first choice is the cruise ship and if you get to visit wonderful places good, but if your first choice is to visit places maybe land tours are better for this person.

We hope to visit Quebec on Sky Princess in October, its somewhere I've always wanted to go but never dreamed I'd get there. Usually the sea and the ship come first but this cruise is so special for me.

In the damned if you do category…

During our medical evacuation in Lisbon, P&O Iona was in port as part of a 2 day visit. Clearly, they were monitoring the same weather situation however, they made no determination to leave port early. At the time of this writing, we on Sky are currently in the Channel and Iona is cruising along the coast of Portugal. Both ships were scheduled to arrive in port on the same day Saturday, April 1,2023. If my app is accurate, we are also experiencing the same sea states. As Carnival is the corporate head office for both companies, I would have expected similar contingency plans be implemented to deal with this storm. Time of course will tell if Iona experiences worse weather conditions however, as an armchair quarterback enjoying my drink package, I am leaning towards the possibility that we could have made our last port call of La Coruna.
Here’s to all of us arriving safely 🍻
    Cheers

I am assuming you have more qualifications to make that judgement than the  Captain.

    Why? Please explain 🤷‍♂️

I don't think anything anyone writes will mean anything unless it is about money.  Interesting you feel so strongly when not on board. I am boarding on Saturday which is why I've been following the posts.  If you do book, with any cruise line, I suggest you read the small print in detail.  Possibly the more expensive of them would compensate, I have no idea, but in my view that's something to look for when taking out insurance.  I believe as this was a repositioning cruise those on board would have paid a reduced fare, and at this time of year the majority would have understood the weather might necessitate a change in the itinerary.  When you purchase most things there is a disclaimer attached, I don't believe keeping the vessel, passengers and crew safe by adjusting the itinerary is deserving of anything but praise and gratitude.  We will have to agree to  disagree.

Drinking 2 cocktails a day and a specialty coffee is enough to 'get your monies worth' from the beverage package.  No one is forcing anyone to drink 10 - 15 cocktails a day!  I would hazard a guess that relatively few people use their entire alcoholic drinks allowance in a day.

I don't drink alcohol due to meds but I love coffee, hot chocolate and mocktails so I still benefit from the package.

  11. I completely agree, voices should be heard now or this will become the norm, cited as due to passenger approval.  We were fortunate to be on SoD on Feb 27th Norway cruise, Norway didn't require testing so after being tested before embarking there were no further tests. There were, however, glaringly obvious problems which would sooner or later lead to large numbers of infection. On entering the Grill for our first meal we had to thoroughly wash our hands at one of 2 sinks. We were then asked if we minded sharing a table and we asked for a table for 2. This we got but it was just inches away from the adjacent table, not enough space for anyone to get through. We watched the safety video in our cabin then the alarm sounded and we all had to present at our muster stations so everyone was using the stairs at the same time leading to bottlenecks everywhere.  The next morning the queue for breakfast in the Grill was huge and it was decided that hand washing was taking too long so it was abandoned and a squirt of hand sanitizer replaced it.  There was great diligence everywhere in asking for a cabin number in every venue for tracking reasons, apart from the library which was hugely popular, the launderettes and lifts. What wasn't noted was the leaving time from these venues meaning if someone had tested positive on a day you had been around the same area you could be deemed a close contact even if you were never there at the same time.  There are other things that were worrying, excursions and disembarking were  problematic, but I learned very quickly that it was their way or no way.

That was our first Saga cruise and having had such faith in Saga's many years of experience with older and more vulnerable people I expected to feel as safe as it was possible to be.  No one is going to get everything right and new problems are arising all the time but I was really shocked by Saga's attitude to their own protocols.

  12. Contacted Resolver had e mail first saying they were very busy at customer services then another saying my complaint was being investigated but it would take some time. Not hopeful although it could be solved in 5 minutes. The cabin we were allocated had a damaged shower which was reported the week before by the occupants. The solution offered was to paint the shower tray which would have left occupants without a shower. Knowing it was damaged, which Deck Manager confirmed he did, and given that there were only 1,500 sailing why allocate a damaged cabin? Still deciding what to do about Aurora cruise next year. 28 nights and lost faith in P&O management. Crew were fantastic.

  13. Does anyone know where to make a complaint where it will be taken seriously. I'm not trying to get a freebie, money or anything of that nature but I want an acknowledgement that the way we were treated was unacceptable

Just booked with P&O for September. Got insurance with All Clear quite reasonable price as it includes Covid cover.  As someone who loves sea days and had missed the sea so much, only having one port doesn't bother me at all.  Its put a new spring in my step at last.

Sorry reposted this instead of what I meant to do. So long since I had anything cruise related to talk about,  apart from refunds, I lost my thread as it were.
