  2. Just returned from a wonderful cruise on the Edge.  We used RomeInLimo for transportation from FCO to our Rome hotel and then from the hotel to the ship.  We arrived in FCO very early and I overestimated the time to clear passport control and customs so we were ready to leave 60 - 90 minutes before our scheduled pick up.  I called the office to ask if the driver could come earlier and after a minute the office replied that he was already there.  The next day we were relaxing in our room waiting for our 10:30 pick up to the port.  The front desk called just before 10 to inform me that the car was at the main entrance to the hotel. The cars were clean, the trips were pleasant, and we were dropped off at the entrance to the cruise terminal.  The website states that the drivers may not speak English but they both spoke enough that we were able to have a conversation. An excellent experience

  3. We enjoy Celebrity very much; however, they have cut back on the waitstaff.  Those that are left work their tails off.  The number of sommeliers have also been reduced.  We were on the recent Bermuda cruise and were fortunate enough to have two very helpful and attentive sommeliers.  They were Vicky and Nenad.  They both knew their stuff but Nenad was very knowledgeable and has a great memory.  He remembered us from our January cruise

  4. To Grandgeezer-the prices in my post were total not pp.  Converted to pp my 2001 cruise was $293 and 2019 is 272.  People's likes and dislikes are subjective and sometimes hard to understand.  We should all cruise the line or ship that makes us happy and just understand that what makes us happy may not be what make others happy and vice versa.  Happy cruising!!!

  5. Sometimes these threads decay into flame wars and I am not trying to do that but would like to put things in perspective.  DW and I started cruising in 2001 and have pent most of our cruises on a Celebrity ship.  Have things changed in 18 years, absolutely!  Many of us miss the elegance of the cruises 20 years ago.  The food quality is not what is once was but considering they are cooking for 2000+ people it is really not bad.  We now also have Martini Bars, some great specialty restaurants, internet service, sometimes good internet service, and drink packages.  One thing that hasn't changed is the level of service on Celebrity.  You are still treated as an honored guest by all the crew.  No company gets this correct 100% of the time but Celebrity is close.  Celebrity is a business and must turn a profit or they will not be a business.  They drive people to packages because they make more money.  We all have the option of not getting the packages.  They make changes to draw a younger crowd.  Some of these changes may not make people of my age happy but Celebrity needs to attract people to replace us when we can't cruise any longer (may that day never come!).  In the end, when the line no longer serves our needs we should walk away and try another one.  I tried RCL last year and did not like it but that is me.  We will try it again this year and also do some Celebrity trips.  One last item, cruising is still a bargain even with the nickel and diming and increases.  Here is some info from my first cruise in 2001 and a similar one coming up.  In 2001 we paid $4100 for an ocean view room on a 7 day trip to Bermuda.  This works out to $585/day plus gratuities and drinks.  This year we will be taking a 10 day tip to Bermuda and NE with veranda room (CC1) for $5440 or $544/day which includes gratuities, drinks, internet and  $300 room credit.  To everyone, make the best of things and just enjoy cruising on whatever line you like.  Life is too short to argue! Bon voyage.

  7. The first guess is always the pods from a propulsion perspective. It appears the ship approached Bermuda on schedule but then went way south of it's usual turn to the west (usually just about due east of the town cut). It then did a 180 towards a point east of the town cut. After that it followed the normal course past Fort St. Catherine, along the north shore of Bermuda and south into the dockyards. DW and I have a vested interest since we are booked on the Summit in a few weeks. Thanks for all the responses.

  8. We are usually one deck up from you. In the past it has been a round table with 4 chairs plus two reclining chairs with footstools. The materials were as described by MartinsCruise above. The balconies are huge and you can take advantage of sun and shade. Enjoy your trip

  9. Try this https://www.cruisetimetables.com/ then click on the tab at the top labeled "cruise ships". next click on the ship name and then on the date. That specific cruise will come up. If it says "more details at Celebrity" it is probably not a charter, at least now. If it says "more details at...." it probably is a charter. For example, the Celebrity Infinity cruise for 1/10/19 says "more details at Groove Cruise" hence a charter. Hope this is useful.

  10. We took this cruise in October of 2010. It was warm and calm but don't use that as a guide. Any cruise can hit rough seas, especially the Bay of Biscay. The crew told us the outbound leg of the prior cruise through the Bay was awful. Bottom line, take the cruise and enjoy. None of us can control or predict the weather!
