  1. Celebrity has changed. There are not enough Celebrity loyalist around to fill all the rooms at the required price to provide all the amenities we received 10 years ago. Celebrity is not a premium line but still does provide great service a cut above many of the middle market lines. Here is a great example of how Celebrity really needs to compete on price. Our first cruise was in 2001 on the Zenith to Bermuda. The cost for an outside room (no veranda) was about $4,000 for the two of us (don't even start asking why I still have this info) w/o insurance and w/o pre-paid gratuities. My recent cruise on the Summit to Bermuda in a Concierge room with a veranda was about $3500 with gratuities. This is a reduction of 12.5% in price over 13 years for a better room on a nicer ship. Assuming an inflation rate of 3% a year for 13 years the Zenith price today would be over $5,600. I would still be cruising but not at the rate I am now. As the prior post sated there are premium lines out there that provide all if not more than the old Celebrity did...It is only a matter of price. I'll take more cruises and will stick with X as long as they continue to provide the great service. That is worth more than chocolate and roses.

Celebrity seems to be making an effort to have their officers being very interactive with the guests.

  3. Well, to add to the confusion...DW and I were on the 6/22 Summit to Bermuda and had flowers in the room and recieved a rose on the first formal night. We ad CC elite and were in a Concierge room. One other very nice touch. I wrote something nice about one of the housekeeping staff. A very nice woman who started cleaning the mid ship staris avery day on deck one and worked her way to deck 11 and did it with a smile and a how are you...every day. On the last day of our cruise we found a plate of chocolate covered strawberries, a bottle of bubbly and a nice note from the head of housekeeping thanking me for the kind words. Nice touch!

  4. Your hotel concierge can get you a cab or shuttle, both are reasonable. I suggest not leaving the hotel until after 12. Enjoy some great salmon and oysters while in Seattle. A warning about disembarkartion. The lines and the wait for taxis was looooooong for us last year(about 45 minutes). It is not Fort Lauderdale.

  5. On deck 5, starboard when walking from the aft restaurants there is a room you pass through that is dark, with a simulated trail of large gold ants in the floor. This always cracks me up. Also love the see through floor tile in the cafeteria on deck 10 of the Millenium class ships.

  6. We cruised the summit the summer of 2013 to Bermuda, in April of this year on a repo to Bayonne and will be boarding her afin in June to Bermuda. THe Summit is not in the same condition as she was a decade ago and is showing signs of age but so have all of us. DW and I had a great time on both cruises. Here is a short list of items I have read about on these boards recently

    • The music was not loud (or is it me getting older and loosing my hearing? It was loadest at the Martini Bar but a conversation could be had without yelling
    • The food was still good. One night in Normandie and the balance in the MDR. Is it the same as dining in a fancy NYC restuarant, no but condiering they are cooking for over 2000 people it was very nice.
    • Our waiters (we had select dining) were attentive and informative (you really should try something else but if you want that I will bring it and come see you in 5 minutes should you want a substitute)
    • Bartenters were always available to take your order and did not have an attitude.
    • Room attendentsare now invisible but the room is always atended to as soon as you leave it.
    • Lastly, and the primary reason we return to Celebrity, all of the crew were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make you feel like a welcome guest. This even incuded the staff ceaning the starways from top to bottom every day. Nice work DINA!

That's all folks. 4 1/2 weeks until my next experience.

  7. Juneau and Alaska are victims of thier own popularity. The number of ships in Juneau just cannot be accomodated so docking is hit or miss. We have been there twice, Once we docked and the other time we tendered, at first. Later on that day the ship was allowed to dock. The Alaska cruises are great so don't let the tendering spoil what will be a great vacation.

  8. Do you mean Cruise Director Steve Gayda and Hotel Director Darren Tiller?

Sorry, still in that mindless on a ship mode. Must snap back to reality...soon. Met some very nice people at the CC receptions. Here is the correct version, I hope. Corrections are denoted with an *

  11. A gentle correction - Constellation does not have a Muranos. For food, it has the MDR, plus the original specialty restaurant called Ocean Liners, and a now new specialty restaurant installed during the last dry dock called Tuscan Grille. There is also Bistro on Five, which has sandwiches, salads, crepes and desserts for both lunch and dinner at a modest charge, and Cafe al Bacio, which serves specialty coffees, liqueurs and pastries, also with a modest charge, both also added at the last dry dock. (The Infinity will get these additional food venues during it's next dry dock, which I believe is sometime in 2011.) There is also the original Aqua Spa cafe, serving healthy selections, the pool side grill with hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, etc, and the buffet area, all included with your cruise fare.

You are absolutely correct. My bad:o. The food and service at Ocean Liners was also outstanding.

  12. We are cruising on Celebrity Infinity thru the Panama Canal down to Chile in December. Never cruised on Celebrity before (NCL). I understand that the specialty restaurant US United States, has a cover charge of $35. That seems high. On NCL the specialty restaurants are $10-25.

If the specialty restaurants are that good, is it because the basic restaurants are not?

The food and service in the MDR is very good. The food and the service in Muranos on Century and Constellation and in both specialty restaurants on the Azamara Journey was outstanding. Different people have different tastes but DW and I both thought the extra $$$ were worth it.

The only real way to find out is to try it:)

  13. We stayed at the Marriot. The location was great, the concierge was very helpful (especially in arranging transportation for 4 of us to the port), the Heineken museum is only a few blocks away and, most importantly, even though we arrived about 9:30 AM they had a room for us. That 3 hour nap made a world of difference after a long flight. I know availability in the morning is a crap shoot but it made a very nice start to an outstanding vacaton.
