  1. Our Uniworld cruise leaves next weekend, and this information was part of our cruise documents-

    Passports
All Uniworld river cruises require a passport. In most cases, passports must be valid for six (6) months after the scheduled return date from the trip. Each guest is fully responsible for obtaining and carrying the travel documents necessary for his or her travel itinerary. Uniworld will not be responsible for any delays, damages and/or losses, including missed portions of your trip,

Agree, do your research before CALLING Celebrity to book air. I found little to desire on the website, but did get a better fare by

telling the agent which flights I was interested in. Very pleasant booking.

This is how I did it too, and had a great experience with them.  It's also a good way to compare fares ahead of time, which is the main reason we ended up booking though Celebrity Air... it was a substantial savings for 3 tickets from San Diego to Rome.

I think the focus of this (still) potential announcement is how will this affect other ports of call not in the EU?

Asian ports.  Most importantly, some Caribbean ports.  The fact that Bermuda is closed until 1 November may be another indicator.

If the EU isn't willing to allow any US visitors because they don't think we have COVID under control, I don't see Asian or Caribbean ports opening for us any time soon.

Hope you had a refundable airfare. I had a noN-refundable fare and eventually had to file a dispute with Amex. Celebrity Air cancelled my air reservation but wouldn’t take any responsibility for the Refund. Told me to contact Norwegian Air who sent me back to Celebrity again.  X only wanted to issue a voucher, good through 1/21 (this is on an airline that isn’t even flying right now!) Finally got them to agree to request a refund from Norwegian bit they claimed they never got a response so I had to go the Amex dispute route. Hopefully X won’t fight that. Will never book air with them again.

We had non refundable airfare, but had no issues with getting the refund from Celebrity Air. This was for a flight that was cancelled by Lufthansa, so even with non refundable tickets, they had to fully refund us

Well, it looks like my August cruise is cancelled, but I'm curious to know about airfare booked through Celebrity.  I paid in full when I booked it.  Who should I contact about a refund/credit?  Airline or Celebrity?

Celebrity. We did the same, and our airfare was refunded through Celebrity.  I did have to also contact Lufthansa, because I had also paid for some seat assignments directly to them, but the airfare was paid to Celebrity Air and the refund came from them

Applied for a refund on June 3rd for an Alaska cruise in Aug that Celebrity cancelled, just received full refund to my credit cards of both the deposit and final payment amount that I had made a week or so prior to Celebrity cancelling.  Deposit showed up as one credit on card I used for that, final payment credits showed up as three separate credits to a different card I used for the final payment.

So less than 30 days from final payment to refund and under 2 weeks from refund request to receiving refund.

We received our refund (most of it) for the cruise within two weeks too..I was expecting it to take a lot longer, so it was a nice surprise. We are still waiting for about 15%of the total, and I’ve seen other people mention it’s the travel agent fees.  Did you use a travel agent, or book direct?

  7. We requested a refund for our 6/13 Mediterranean cruise when they announced the last round of cancellations, which was 5/20.  At the end of May we received two different refunds, and last week we received another that is the exact amount of what we paid for our airline tix through CELEBRITY AIR.

We are still missing about 15% of our cruise fair. I can’t figure it out, but will wait until the end of this month to call. I was surprised that the refunds came through as fast as they did, honestly.

  8. Celebrity has been extending cancellations basically a month at a time, the latest round is through 7/31, but I’m sure next month they will announce the next group that will almost certainly include your cruise.

I understand your frustration, especially when your cruise just misses their arbitrary cut off date. We had a June 13th planned cruise out of Rome that just missed the last round (cut off date was 6/11)  It was finally officially cancelled by Celebrity this week. We expected it would be cancelled and planned accordingly.

I would have thought that there's a better chance of a European season compared to the USA. Italy, Spain and France are planning to open resorts in the next few weeks.

Even if some things are starting to open up, I can’t imagine Italy, Spain and France will open up to cruise ships any time soon.

I also think that as things are opening up, we will see some new outbreaks of COVID which might impact future stages.. it’s so hard to predict what July and August will look like, but with cruises being in the news for all of the wrong reasons during this pandemic, I think cruising will be one of the last things to reopen.

In my opinion,  cagey and obnoxious. Predictable pattern at this point.  Get in all those final payments and then cancel...and make yet another group of folks wait a long time  for larger amounts way beyond the initial deposit.

    I totally agree with you.

I am glad that we’ll finally be able to request a refund for our June 13 Apex cruise out of Rome. But I’m so disappointed in how Celebrity has handled the cancellations, no FCC or lift and shift for us. We are done.

I’m on the 6/28 cruise on the Equinox. I highly doubt that this cruise is really going to sail. Just wondering when they will extend the cancellations!!!

We are on the Apex sailing out of Rome on June 13th. I was hoping they’d extend the cancellations last week... hopefully it will be this week.

I worry about the fact that we have all been exposed to yearly rounds of circulating coronaviruses but still did not have the right immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 strain.  But maybe some of us actually did (the asymptomatic carriers?).  What does this say about vaccine approaches?

I get why you think it is a sham as some here do. A lot of people have money tied up waiting for the next set of cancellations.  It is frustrating for sure.  But what date do you think they should extend to at this point?  Sept?  Dec?  2021 some time?  How does one decide?  And cancel all operations to that date or allow a few cruises to resume with the right conditions?  Should they continue to waffle (or be conservative in my view) and choose a date after the next set of CDC guidelines? This is more than a bit complicated.

I agree, it's very complicated.  I think the least they can do is extend the cancellations for 60 days, vs the 30 days they have been doing.  Our Mediterranean cruise out of Rome is scheduled for June 13.  Of course, that won't be happening, and it's very frustrating that I'm still waiting for Celebrity to officially cancel the cruise.

Within a week, I predict you’ll get a cancellation notice from Celebrity.

A month ago, they extended cancellations for cruises through 6/11 and I’m expecting this week will announce cancellations into July..maybe further.  We are on a 6/13 cruise out of Rome, so we just missed the cut off from the last round, expect to get notice this week.

Sounds like a computer glitch to me.  At least in the US there is no time period in the cancellation schedule that has a 90% penalty; it is 25% 50%, 75% & 100%.

But if Celebrity cancels the cruise, there should be no cancellation charge.

This is not surprising.  It was just a matter of time before the law suits came as a result of the virus.  And it's not just the cruise industry...these suits have the potential to bubble up in any industry that remains open to provide essential services.  Ambulance chaser's dream...IMO

And this will also impact other Non-essential  businesses as they try to eventually reopen.

  17. They are just cancelling in one month batches..the first round was through May 11, and now June 11. I’m sure in one month they will announce cancellations through July 11 and so on through the summer.

They can’t seem to keep up right now with refunding people for the cruises already cancelled... imagine if they announced 4 more months of cancellations at once.

We have a June 13th cruise out of Rome that is clearly not happening, but we just missed the cutoff. So now we wait another month to request our refund. If i could go back in time and not make that final payment and cancel, I would.  The best option is to not give them any more money.

Celebrity needs to make a clear statement that for all cancellations the FCC has been extended to April 30, 2022. This would make more people agree to take the FCC rather than the refund. Taking a refund increase the chance the customer will not come back. It's simple business. They should actually move the date to June 30, 2022 to even be more beneficial to Celebrity.

Continually changing this date and making it a different date then the Cruise with Confidence option is just adding to the confusion.  They should just give everyone a certain time period from their canceled cruise .. at least 24 months.

That could possibly be extended further. My airfare for which I now have a travel credit is good for 24 months.  The original date was 1 year from date of purchase.

I might take the FCC if they extended. But, I would still wait until they officially cancel our cruise to get the 125%
