When I first quickly read the title on this thread I thought it said "Clothing optional night 1 Alaska cruise" and I immediately thought now why didn't I book that cruise? Then I realized that I may need to book an eye doctor appointment instead! 😉Screenshot2024-05-04195542.png.adf58e10aa20fbbafb7790d9ef4223fd.png

Thought it was just me! 😂

  2. Looking forward to your updates!  I’m an old fart at 60, haven’t read a paper book in years but just downloaded The Adams -Jefferson Letters digital version for our cruise in January!  Exciting!  😂. I can’t read non-fiction, no idea why.   Congrats on the course, I used to tell myself “I only have to do it once…”, got me through several years.

Well looks like it just wasn't seasickness that kept me in bed the last afternoon and night of the cruise as I'm now really sick with bronchitis.  I had a hard time even walking off the ship on Saturday and am floored at how quickly this all came about.  I felt fine Friday morning.  Doctor has me on a z pack, steroids, inhaler and prescription cough meds.  Hoping I recover quickly.

Even with the bad weather and ending up sick, I really did enjoy my time on the Sky, met a lot of great people and really enjoyed the crew.  It's just a bumpy ride back into reality!

Hope you get better soon!  Enjoyed your posts…

We are traveling with friends that are in a full suite that gets reserve class.  We are not.  What happens if they want us to dine with them?

Depending on availability, they may be able to get you in.  Just talk to them the first day.  We have done it on several cruises.  What better way to introduce folks to club class/reserve?  Love making friends there!

One plus I have not seen listed:

A nice quite spot on deck, in the shade, on a sea day, with a good book.

Like a brainiac who loves technology, was using medallion app to find my wife, who likes a quite spot, in the shade, reading a book.  I was going nuts, walking up and down two levels and never seeing her but I was right “on the spot”.  Then on my last lap before I decided to give up, I heard her giggle.  She had pulled up a lounge chair under the stairs…nice and quiet, in the shade reading her book.  Seen me every time I walked past…never said a thing but the last time I heard that cackle!  I bet half the ship walked by her…

My favorite thing is the nostalgic feeling that Princess has as the original "Love Boat" sails out of port blasting the Love boat theme.  Maybe because of the television show, being onboard a princess ship  feels like you are on a vintage cruise from the good old days.

We head out on Jan 13th with two fresh new to cruising relatives.  I will get a picture of them when the horn blows! 😂

I have loved cruising for years. I have a membership at a camping resort in Virginia Beach and keep our Expedition motorhome there all summer. I love being able to just kick back on the water and fishing with family and friends five-minute drive to the oceanfront. I try to cruise once or twice a year and think it would be so much fun to camp at Port Canaveral and then park in the lot and hop on the ship. Camping...Fishlips...then cruising...what more can you ask for.

    That would be nice!

  8. I’ve had norovirus 3 times on cruises.  If you can’t hold anything in, you have it!  Bring medicine (Imodium) with you and stay in your room for 24 hours.  If you go to ship doctor, they will quarantine you 24 hours from the time you visit them.  I swear, you feel better exactly at the 24 hour mark! We did a pub crawl and right after I got sick, locked myself in the bathroom.  My none drinking wife swore it was from drinking at the pub crawl.  I had one beer at the 5 bars we went too, no way but she doesn’t drink, she doesn’t understand 5 beers over 3 hours is not going to do that.  A few days later we got home from the cruise, I heard her at 3am, locked in our bathroom at the house.  Like a good husband, I rubbed her shoulders and said “must have been something you drank…”. 😈

If that was the plan, it worked. Now you have another  underused dining space that used to be busy and fun.

It’s a big business and fluid.  My wife and I were chatting about it, we love Alfredo’s but would an O’malleys make more sense having free pizza with Slice by the pool?  Man, I hope that band sticks around!

  10. First, I’m a tshirt and shorts kind of guy who was lucky and retired early than expected.  Hate being pampered or pretentious about things.  We’ve sailed with others and had some older friends invite us to cruise with them about 10 years ago.  We never felt so “relaxed” on a cruise before.  We have done a few with other lines since but we “missed” that low key relaxation and the look of Princess.  I will say either we are getting older faster or customers are getting younger.  I’ve not got jammed in the back of an elevator by rabid wheelchair drivers in a few years!  You can have lots of fun but not really a party cruise.  If you want to be waited on hand and foot, that’s there too!  Enjoy it immensely!

Not sure what time they normally show the movies, this is our first time with Princess coming up in December. But how many parents enforce a curfew while on vacation?

By the way, where can one find out the movie schedule for a particular cruise?

Won’t be applicable until a week or so out from sailing.  Had some great movies and some not so great.  Love MUTS…when it’s bearable.  Alaska cruises are the best bring an additional blanket!  Just catch someone the here on the previous cruise…best way.

  12. We’re on an early January cruise on Sky, hopefully band stays on!  As a native upstate NYer (not to be confused with NYC, I learned to play golf in my bare feet), pizza is my kryptonite!  We love Alfredo’s, but we always go premium so most changes don’t effect us, some actually helped.  It may be working exactly as planned…to free up space?
