  1. I had 8158 ( cat. 8D) with the beds next to the balcony, which I found much better than the cabin I was moved to for one night while they had to fix the AC. The other had the bed by the bathroom, and the layout was much better with the bed by the window, even if I usually prefer the sofa by the balcony. On Symphony, the cabin did not look so great with the sofa by the balcony. The niche with sofa incl downlights looks much better. In the other cabin, you get the ceiling spotlight right into your head.

On my next Symphony cruise, I have 8302, where would the bed be ? ( And how do some people know all about the position of the beds ? Can you read this from the stateroom plans somewhere ?)

  2. I am at present onbord Allure, B2B, and next week there will be a large group from Playboy onbord, followed with 2000 from Playboy on the feb 14 cruise, I was told it was a buy-out, which means they have the whole ship, even if they just 2000 people booked, not the full capacity of 6000. Does this sound like a joke ? I was told tonight by one of the crewmembers.

  3. ,Did you get the day pass at the Marriot ? Or did you go on-line.?

Been there 2 times, never bought a day pass, I could see from the towels on the beach there were some others from the ship there too. Since we had lunch there in the restaurant, we did not have to buy the pass, and the chairs on the beach were free.

We could never swim there, since the waves were to rough.

  4. I was in Livorno with Equinox 7. August, and the shuttle was free. Where it stopped, there were also guests from Princess cruises, and I saw they had tickets ready to show for the return to the ship, while we travelled with no charge. I almost got on the wrong shuttle when I noticed the sign in the front window.

  5. I was the first one to leave the helipad, I do not drink champagne, and orange juice was not my choice right then leaving Palma de Mallorca on Equinox, all the officers there came from the hotel dept. Much better view from the sky lounge where I had my free class of wine from the free beverage package. Nothing special about being on the helipad when leaving a port.

  6. No buses stops near the port gate anymore. The stop is closer to the ship, so the walking distance from Civitavecchia train station to the port shuttle bus, is quite a walk. For some people it would be to far, and a taxi from the station is the only alternative.

  7. I'm pretty sure when things go wrong, the Bridge officers have to speak English. There's a recorder up there (similar to a cockpit voice recorder) for the authorities.

When I was reading about the fire on the Carnival Splendor, John Heald wrote that the Captain reminded all the officers on the Bridge that they had to speak English during the emergency.

I was invited by the captain to be on the bridge when the ship pulled out of an Adriatic port. Both the staff captain and the 1. officer were Swedish, and I was wondering why they spoke English together. As long as the pilot was on the bridge, they did so.

  8. We had 7150 after the refurbishment last year. The bathroom reminded me about Celebrity Solstice-class ( Equinox is the only one i have been on ), but the cabin itself was smaller than the JS on the side of the ship, like we did not have room for the same furniture because the cabin is not as wide as other JS. It is located above large bar-lounge area, but the diamond club had been build into the corner of this barlounge, and therefore we had no noise from that area just below on deck 6. The balcony was very fine, and the balcony furniture was just the same as on Celebrity solstice class.

  9. I was there just 2 weeks ago, it is placed in a corner of the South Seas, and is pretty much the same as the lounge on deck 11, for the suites and diamond +++ members. No difference in service, or food, the same wine (just La Terre both places ). This lounge has got windows and is placed the rear of the ship. My cabin 7150 was just above this area, and I heard no noise from the South Seas where they have a band playing some nights, because the Diamond lounge was in that corner. Open 0500 till 0830. Compared to ships like Navigator and Adventure, it was better, because those ships did not really have a dimond lounge, it was a pretty empty room with some service. It was better when they had the Diomond lounge in the 19th hole bar on those ships.

  10. Capt. Espen Been left Grandeur in Venice sep 14., and Trond Holm replaced him. Capt. Espen did 2 weeks extra rotation to catch up on some extended vacation time last season. He has re-located to Norway after 9 years living in Chile. He loves the 'smaller' ships and dispite they are more difficult to maneuvre, - and will be back for the season when 95% of the pax speaks spanish, when Grandeur do cruises out of Panama.

  11. Capt Rune Johnsen will be assigned to Monarch starting 8-27. Since he delivered Sovereign to Pullmantur, RCI is having him also deliver Monarch.

Monarch is not due to go to Pullman untill 01 april 2013, so why is Capt Rune already onboard, if he is there to hand over the ship to the spanish Pullman Cruises ?

That night was our second formal night... and second Captain's Party. We spent it with Derrick and Jennifer's family.

We had watched these men walk through the dining room several times. The first night we noticed them, they had capes on. Turns out, they were spending six months on the ship. They were always escorted into the dining room by a crew member - I think their personal butler? They were dressed up very festive for Christmas Eve, so Rachel asked for a photo with them, and they gladly agreed. They had strong accents - I'm not sure where they were from.

The two gentlemen which you do not where they are from; The one to the right is a Danish hotel owner living in Malaga, Spain, the other is his partner, indian-Spanish. They do not dear to fly, so they started their cruise nov 07 in Malaga, Transatlantic, and they will be back in Mlaga in the spring, when Adventure returns to malaga after the eastbound transatlantic cruise. I think they said they would visit St. Thomas 18 times. I spoke to them on the transatlantic. They must have had tons of cloths with them ,because every night they came down to the lower level in the MDR, dressed up in new costumes every night, with wigs most of the times. One of the last nights, all the guest applauded them. It was a kind of enterainment to see these to guys arrive after all others were seated, and we waited to see them come down escorted by a female officer.

  13. On a recent TA cruise on the Adventure, Capt Ole-Johan Gronhaug told me he would not leave the ship Dec 18 when the 10 weeks rotation is over, he will stay on till after New Year. This is something the 2 captains sort out between them, in order for them to spend Christmas at home every second year.

  14. Capt Erik Standal of Navigator left the ship in Rome sunday Aug 07, so this is a week earlier compared to Karen's list. He mentioned during the C & A party, which was held on the Peekaboo bridge when leaving Chania, Crete, this was his last week onboard. Never been to a meeting on the Peekaboo bridge before, but it was closed off for others than those with an invitation, and there was a buffet and drinks set out, and many other from the ships officers there with us. The captain explained what was happening on bridge, but left the party just minutes before Navigator was due to leave Chania at 2 PM.
