  1. Frankly I find the DCL $12 per guest per night tip to be on the low end, it's certainly higher on NCL for my next cruise. As for the head server, I do find on DCL they are slightly more interactive, checking in on many tables throughout the night. I didn't mind paying his tip at all. You don't have to do anything with the tip envelopes if you don't want; they are just there in case you want to hand something to the servers, and/or put something extra in, but there's no obligation.

Agree! We went on our first Disney cruise in April and I had budgeted way more because I thought it was $36 per person a night, not $12.

  2. We just did a 3 night on the Wonder. I really liked Cabanas too. It seemed like it had more of a variety. I liked Tiana's, but I could have done without Triton's and Animator's Palate. Seemed like it was the same food 2 days in a row. Next time we are not going to the dining room every night. It was tiring. Wish they had anytime dining.

  3. This is another thing that turned us off from dcl. There is a large majority of people who cruise dcl (and who work for dcl) who really think they are better than people who cruise other lines. When we realized our eldest child had picked up some of this attitude-- just yuck.

I'm in a couponing group---Couponing to Disney actually--and some behave this way about other cruiselines. Thankfully my TA who I used for our Disney cruise isn't like that, but it makes me wary. Especially if I comment about Carnival cruises I have taken and the replies I get.

  4. Here's the thing, DCL is crazy expensive in comparison to the other mass-market cruise lines. If you can afford it that is great. If your family prefers to only vacation every 2 years in order to be able to cruise DCL then great. I don't think my kids only cruising on Carnival has ruined their childhood.

We are a Disney family. I grew up in California and was raised on Disneyland. I started taking my oldest when he was a baby. We have been to WDW many times. In fact, we chose WDW this year over a cruise because we had not been in a long time. We love the movies and the merchandise and the music. But, I would never pay the inflated price for a DCL cruise no matter how much I love all things Disney. We have spent less on a week in Paris (including our flights) than the price of a summer cruise (which is the only time we can travel) without all the add-ons required.

I get it, they are a business and can charge what they want and if people are willing to pay then good for them. I don't think coming here and telling people who cruise on Carnival that they are less-than is OK. We are all very privileged to be able to travel on whatever cruise we choose. There are people out there, children out there, who will never travel from their state or city due to finances. Are they less than you or me? I would hope you don't think so.

Good post. I actually had a 3 night cruise booked for April 2017. I found 3 round trip tickets for $1294 (total)to Paris. I moved the cruise back since it actually cost more than our hotel and plane tickets combined. We'll go April 2018, but It'll be our last one. I know it'll be nice, but I could do an 8 day one for the price I'm paying for this 3 night. I'm also a teacher, so I HAVE to go at high times.

  5. I have sole custody after having to go to court just to get her passport. I asked for 2 years and even cancelled a cruise because he wouldn't sign. (Yes, I know you don't need a passport to cruise a closed loop.) I've only cruised Carnival with her and they didn't ask. I took it to Paris with us, they didn't ask. I'll keep bringing it because a woman in my travel group was denied going into Belize because she didn't have one. She had to call her husband just so they could get in.

Everyone can say they haven't been asked, but it takes that ONE time and your whole vacation is ruined.

  6. Not sure, but I took a 4 day, 3 night trip to Paris (hotel and plane tickets for 3 people) for the same price of the same amount of nights for 3 people on a Disney cruise to Castaway Cay. Yes, Paris our food wasn't included, but it wasn't a lot. I'd have been crazy to skip Paris for that Disney cruise to the Bahamas.

We moved it to April 2018. It will be our only one because the ones I can afford are only to the Bahamas and once is enough for me. We'll probably stick to the parks.

Also not too keen on the kids club being 3 to 12. Are they even broken up? That is a big age gap. Really big.

  7. It's been a while since I cruised but I'll be taking my daughter on her first cruise Thursday. I know she'll do awesome as she ROCKED her first transatlantic flight and trip to Paris recently in April. She did well in the Louvre as well as the cafes. As a single working mom (snark) it was so nice to go away and spend time with her and she had everyone doting on her with her awesome behavior. Teaching is rewarding and hard work, but we all need breaks!

I'm not worried about kids on our upcoming cruise. I'm more chill now. I just go to another area. I don't want my daughter thinking certain behaviors are okay.

  8. Cuba!! I'm jealous! Hoping to go there next year. When you get back if you want to post lots of pics from your trip that would be ok :p

She's a smaller ship, but the Fantasy class ships are a lot of fun! There's so many things to do and they have an energy about them. You'll have a blast!

I definitely will! I'm going to like the smallness!

  9. I've been to Nassau about 3 times on cruises now. I would stay on the ship if it were just me, but my daughter has never been, so I have to get off so she at least has set foot on Nassau. :p

We'll probably do the Ardastra Gardens and City Tour. It'd be nice if it were just a city tour like one I've done before, but oh well.
