  1. Not sure how to best title this.  I have family of 5 so we need more than 1 cabin on Royal Princess (a year from now). I had thought that my oldest child being 18 then could have a cabin with a sibling, 16.  Turns out our TA has to book my husband in a cabin with one of the olde teen boys and then myself in the cabin with the other teen and younger sib, b/c someone over 21 has to be in each cabin.

TA says that later we can put whomever we want in whatever cabin, but what about your medallion unlocking your door?  These are adjoining cabins but it would be annoying if my 18 yr old alwasy had to open the door that was the room intended for the parents and the youngest child.  Plus then one of the parents would only be able to unlock the teens' room.

Is there something here I'm missing?  I'm honestly wondering if I should abandon this cruise idea altogether until oldest is 21, or possibly consider a large suite we can all fit in instead of the 2 rooms.  What I booked are 2 adjoining deluxe balconies.

  2. This is how I remember it from a few years ago but wanted to check.  I am not at all sure we'll go on the cruise and don't want to buy their insurance if I will be out that money if I cancel it before payment is due.  I have a refundable deposit and I want my cost to be $0 if we cancel.

Also, can I add the princess protection back much later, right before final payment?  I have actually had to use the Princess insurance twice and have only been on one cruise (one I took, the other was last minute canceled due to emergency), so I will definitely have insurance, just not sure if I'll go with princess' insurance again.

I asked my TA these questions but haven't heard back and am impatient, thanks.

  3. I thought I had posted this earlier but apparently it didn't take. I'm thinking about going on a group cruise for which this is the itinerary so I couldn't change it. Also, I used to be certain I wanted the Vancouver to Whittier itinerary but if I'm going to bring my family the cost of those plane tix is prohibitive. Seattle tix are doable. We're coming from the DC area. Thank you all for your input.

  4. I'm sure this has been covered a lot, but I'm contemplating a Seattle round trip to Alaska which I didn't consider before b/c I was determined to do the Vancouver to Whittier (booked 2020, 2021...). But I want to go with a group that's going there in early July 2025, and plus Seattle is massively lower cost for airfare for us coming from the east coast, and I always wanted to see Seattle.

But I'm scared of the day that the ship goes from Seattle to Alaska, b/c of rough seas.  I did not get at all seasick on my one cruise so far but it was a Canada / New England from NYC to Quebec City.  I don't remember hearing anything before the cruise about rough seas on that itinerary.  One of my teenage sons gets motion sick from things like roller coasters (and even Hamilton, b/c of watching the rotating stage).  I brought all the seasickness meds, ginger candies, and sea bands on my one cruise and didn't need to use any of it, so I know what to bring.  If this son comes I may get him the prescription patch.

Are there other parts of the itinerary to be scared of beyond just that first and last sea day?  This is Royal Princess July 5, 2025 that includes Skagway, Juneau, Ketchican and Glacier Bay (I probalby got the order wrong...).

  5. I've googled a lot but can't find any info on what different cabin types would cost on the  2026 Mediterranean 14 day eclipse cruise, Sky Princess, Southampton, Aug 8.  The announcement from May 3 from Princess only says that cabins start around 2K.  I would be interested in a balcony or mini suite, as we'd probably have at least some of our 3 children with us.  I'd like to discuss this cruise with my husband with accurate price info but I don't really want to call Princess.  I do have a TA but I've only worked with them once before, I'm not sure I want to book with a TA again.  It's pretty much a long shot that my DH would want to do this cruise but he's the one interested in celestial events so I thought I'd at least run it by him.  I'm expecting it to sell out on the day it releases, May 23, or probably soon thereafter.  Writing this I'm starting to think I have to either call Princess or my TA, what do you think?  Thank you.

  6. Unfortunately I caught covid on my 10 day cruise and have to quarantine the last 5 days.I bought Princess standard insurance.  Medical told me many times that all my meds and Dr visits will be covered. I got the bill that lists the diagnosis.  Do I also get something back for the quarantine days? Does princess just do that or do I have to claim trip interruption? Thanks for any advice.

  7. I remember reading that a basic extension cord is ok on Princess but am second guessing myself and I embark tomorrow.  We made sure it was less than 1 meter. I read somewhere it had to be that short. Not attached to a surge protector.

  8. I'm on Caribbean Princess 10 day Canada / New England cruise next week, departing from Brooklyn and ending in Quebec.  I've been told that there's an app I need to have on my phone and filled out before I get to the airport to come home from Quebec, and it's a Canadian one, I can't remember the name (I don't think it was ArriveCan).

I will go back and find out what that was, but my question now is, do I have to have something like that before I embark in Brooklyn?  Nobody has told me that but I thought to ask since I'd need one later, when I go through immigration during my layover from Quebec back to DC.  So it seems like I need one to get back in the US from Canada but I don't know if I need one to enter Canada from the US.

  9. I know this has been brought up a lot on CC but I'm no good with the search engine.  I'm on Caribbean Princess for 10 days starting next week and I know I need to do laundry halfway through.  I use only unscented products.  What do you recommend, or, is there something they sell on Princess that I can buy?  I might do what I've seen others recommend, and handwash things like socks and underwear in my stateroom, then take the big stuff to the laundry room.  I am hesitant to send it out b/c I don't think it would be done with unscented stuff, is that accurate?  Thanks for any info.  This is causing me a lot of stress b/c I typically just bring enough for a whole trip, but my trips are almost always a week or less.  This 14 days total trip is a rare treat.

Trust me, by the time it gets anywhere near Canada it will have weakened down to a Tropical Depression at worst. Hope the following screenshot will help:

Enjoy your cruise vacation and don't worry too much.

This is what I would have thought too, except I keep seeing articles that it will somehow boomerang back and get more speed.  There's that new phrase, "rapid intensification. "

  11. Thanks. That makes sense. I'm honestly ok with whatever (except very rough seas might make me unhappy). It's my first cruise and I just want the experience. Right now our itinerary has only 1 sea day so a few more would be ok. I just hope the sailing happens because I've rebooked 3x since 2019, twice for covid and last year for family emergency.
