  1. Hello SteveinPhilly & Dutchrev :)

Hope you both had/having a great trip . I will be in Barbados Feb. 17th.

I'd like to have a general overall sightsee of the island before shopping in Bridgetown.

Can you tell me how your taxi tour was? Did you go on the driver's route or have a personal route planned?

Do we need >2 passengers to get a 3-4hr tour for $25. Is that price per passenger or cab ?

    Thanks,

    Marilyn

Marilyn: Well I'd love to tell you but I had to cancel next week's cruise this morning because of a health issue. I will say though that I was REALLY impressed by the communication from Tyrone Griffith about the trip we planned. I put together 8 peole and he offered a full island 3-4 hour tour in the morning for $25 pp. I really felt he cared. He does not have a website but you can contact him via email at: tiatonagi AT yahoo.com

I plan to reschedule the cruise - and will dcefinitely book with him.

  2. We are trying this on Jan 10th at 9 am. We are on Maasdam. Tyrone is guide 3-4 hours for $25. Need some more adventurers. Meet at Milly's Bar near Circle close to terminal.

THanks G&B: Just contacted him. Did he quote you for hust 2 people? sounds very reasonable for that. Or will he add others in cab?

We are there on Saturday 1/19

  3. Hi i live in Barbados and would like to reccommend Tyrone Griffith

    Email tiatonagi@yahoo.com

    Phone (246)233-3168

Thanks! I just emailed Tyrone to see what he is offering and price. $25 for 3-4 hours is fair with the sights (monkeys, etc) included.

We are just 2 so I'm hoping he has 2 others for our date - January 19th.

BTW, We are in on a Saturday. Is there a special Weekend Market on that day in Bridgetowm we should plan around?

  4. Bully's tour is $45.00 per hour, not per person. He has a mini van, not a regular cab. He books up quickly, so it is doubtful that he could accommodate you at this late date. We use the bus many times every year. It would be very easy to take it all the way from the cruise ship area to the end of the line, past the hotels of the resort area.

I realized Bully's rate but I was calculating a 3 hour tour with 4 people at $40 pp per tour. ;)

As for the bus. Would we see anything special on the route? Any special stops to get off - and reboard - to get feeling of the island?

    Thanks for your help.

  5. We are not big sun people and so beach is not for us. The thread on Bully Tours seems to show that four people -I have long legs so no 5 in a cab for me -will cost about $40 pp for a 3 hour tour, right?

We are there all day (7-5) and so I want to do something. Friends told me they just took a local bus (#10) to Palm Beach. I'm just wondering if anyone has used public transport here. I often find it fun to just get on a local bus and take the rout round trip. Anyone ever done this? any Aruba locals on CC who can advise?

Thanks! We leave home Jan 13th and are in Aruba on a Tuesday

  6. Hi. We go in 12 days and I've booked tours in 3 of our 5 ports. For Barbados I noted in a guide book that the Salt Flats are one of the things to see. Comments? Worth seeing Mount Gay Rum Factory?

Also, those who have responded about tours they found (mini-bus) from Downtown, can anyone remember prices? I saw no mention of them. :(

    Thanks.

    Steve

  7. Mandoo's website currently indicates that his half-day tours run in the $60 USD range. I've corresponded with him a few times to get tour details and he has always responded quickly. If you still don't have a response, that may indicate some kind of technical glitch. I bet if you re-submit your question you'll get an answer within a day.

I did hear from him and he has us on the list. The half-day for CRUISE PASSENGERS is $45.00

  8. I am thrilled to continue reading such wonderful comments, about Mandoo's excursions.

I have booked his Spice Plantation one, for February 2013. He is very easy to communicate with, and the reservation process was simple.

Looking forward to my first visit to Grenada!

Surprizing I wrote him tio explain that our Cruise is onlt in Grenada for 5 hours and that we'd need a 4 hour tour - not listed on his website. He replied FAST saying that he had a 4 hour one and described it, but when I wrote back to ask the price, he hasn't replied after almost 10 days. I emailed him again three days ago and no reply. I hope he does reply. It did sound interesting.

  9. I would also recommend Mandoo. We spent the day with him last December and loved it.

If you would like to read a review of our day, please feel free to visit our blog at http://www.thenextjourney.com/2011/12/grenada-spices-mona-monkeys-annandale-falls/

What a well done blog! I'm going to save and go back to read your other port stops. There are so many posts on Grenada tour tips I'm having difficulty going through them. But Noted that some tours are "All Day" - 8 hours.

Our port stop in January (on the Vision of Seas) is only from 7-2 and that means on board by 1pm. How long was Mandoo's tour. Also looking for other spice stours that don't include a lot of time at beach as we don't do sun well.

    Thanks for help and advice.

  10.

I spend a lot of time on a cruise reading, and was hoping to not have to add to my already overweight luggage by choosing books from HAL's normally well-stocked library. Now your comments on the library have me somewhat concerned. Where is the library now? I recall they had moved the library on the Zuiderdam up to the Crow's Nest area along with the Explorations Cafe. Can you tell me if that is where the library is now, and does it seem to be well stocked?

    Have a great cruise!

    Bonnie

Bonnie: It's stocked but - "well stocked", I have to say no. MIght want to bring some reading. The relocation is strange as the Crows news is now basically quiet and was NEVER busy. No music up there as it's same room as the Explorations cafe. Noted very few folks using the Internet - prices REALLY high. and though many folks PAYING for coffee (higher than Starbucks!) there, not many buying pasteries ;)

BTW, not sure if Dave mentioned but DO attend at least one or two of the Digital Workshop classes. They are great. The two guys are wonderful. It's funded by Microsoft to get you on their Windows Live photo hosting site. (ad supported of course). But you can even send some advance photos to your friends from here and no internet charge. I congratulated HAL on this feature.

  11. Okay Okay, I didn't write my "review" yet. And I haven't read through all of Dave's posting about the trip BUT, I did put my photos and videos into a slide show and this should bring back some memories.

Haven't had time to read DAve's full blog yet but wanted to post there where others might see it.:)

I created it on Smilebox in a free account so I couldn't choose the music I prefer but I think it works okay. It has sound videos included so keep your volume up. Should take you about 15 minutes to watch.

Twas a lot of work, and I hope to put together a DVD one day with Windows Movie Maker but this will suffice for now.

Here's the link: (you don't need to log in or sign up for anything to see it.)

    Enjoy - I hope!:)
