Unfortunately 600+ people there have died in the last 24 hours and people are still flouting the quarantines. Signs of things to come in the US.
"The best way to convince a fool that he is wrong is to let him have his own way" or, in our case, ban absolutely everything. There is no difference. Stupidity always finds a way out, unfortunately

We have not yet canceled our cruise but it is hard to look forward right now. Yesterday my daughter found out she won't go back to work tentatively until April 27th. Georgia's governor has ordered schools to stay closed until then. Now she wonders if school will reopen before August.
Our county has been on shut down since Wednesday. Of course I feared this would happen. The first person diagnosed in Georgia who was diagnosed after returning from Milan Italy February 24th, lived in Fulton county. Our county (Douglas) borders Fulton. The Fulton county line is only 4 miles form our house. They say our hospital ICU is completely full which is why the shutdown was ordered.
Anyway they know around here the corona virus came directly from Milan, Italy.
Yes, this situation is full of uncertainty is exhausting and destroys all the plans, I agree. Also, this abundance of news on TV and on the Internet drives into a state of anxiety. And what about hospitals... I have a lot of friends who say that many hospitals are full, there aren't enough places in the wards and so on... But is it worth believing?

Well, travelling and overall marine aesthetics were always with me and I always liked it very much 'cause it's close in spirit. I was 20 years old and we were traveling in Scandinavia. Since then, I have fallen in love with the Nordic countries!

Cruises are a leisure activity and not a necessity.
You can 't be more precise! I think this phrase could be displayed on the home page of this site or something like that. Because now putting yourself and others at additional risk is at least selfish.
And with regards to most cruise companies... Now all organizations associated with the tertiary sector are suffering losses. As Charles Darwin said it"s not the strongest who survive, but those who can best adapt to the situation. I think this approach applies here as well

That is too far away but right now I'm happy that it's not very soon!
You can't be more precise! By that time, I think the epidemic will have subsided, or even ended. So while we have to sit at home and hope for the best💚

I don't know if there are any Manchester United fans here but the club has just announced the cancellation of training. I hope other League teams will follow their example

Yes, summer is for vacationing and we are planning on going to Greece for a month. We have been to Greece several times and we love our time there.
I have always wanted to visit Greece - it's a beautiful country with a rich history. The only thing that stops me is that it's very hot in summer. What did you like most there?
-
Hi, I'm so sorry, I'd also be very worried if I were you. Maybe you can reschedule your vacation for a few months? In general the probability of getting infected is not so high, of course, but there's still a risk, especially since you are pregnant

We have a Baltic cruise booked for July. If that were to be cancelled I would expect it to mean that the virus is widespread, so no-where would be especially 'safe'. I think we would stay at home, as we live in a lovely area, and hope to reschedule the cruise for next year.
Oh, it's great that you can enjoy the place where you live🥰 If my cruise was canceled , I would be terribly upset 'cause summer holidays are like a breath of fresh air for me, and I'm always waiting for them the whole year. But, on the other hand, health is really more important, so I understand you

Imagine all the future potential law suits and liability claims if the untested vaccine leads to nasty side effects and other health issues down the road. No, it cannot be administrated untested on a national scale.
I completely agree with you. It remains to wait for an official announcement that the vaccine's been developed, tested and can be used in treatment. But no matter how hard the scientists try, it will still take a long time anyway, so for now we just have to follow simple precautions, such as not attending events with lots of people, enhanced hygiene, and so on

Australia is not getting hit by the virus, we have only had 22 cases so far. 15 of those were diagnosed early on, all linked to people who had travelled from China before travel bans were put in place. Many of those people have recovered. The remainder of the cases are people who were on Diamond Princess.
New Zealand does not have any cases of the virus.
I'm sorry but how did Australia not suffer from the virus, if there were detected cases all in all? Yes it came from people who have returned from other countries but still those who become ill carry a potential threat of further infection in your county

Have fun and enjoy! You are sure to be avoiding crowds but good luck getting a flight back home.
Lol perfect 🙂
Btw maybe it's not right to tell this but people who live in huge tourist destinations can sigh with relief without big noisy crowds of tourists now -

It was to be today but it was cancelled. I was packed and getting ready to drive to the port when we found out. 😞 we will reschedule but not sure when. Getting our time off from work and college at the same time takes a bit of effort.
Oh, I feel very sorry for you. Last year I had exactly the same situation. And in the end, on the date that we wanted to reschedule the cruise, I wasn't released by my boss at all 😞 I hope that everything will be fine and you'll be able to enjoy your trip!😉

Better read what the fortune cookie tells you before you decide on anything.
...and what if the cookie says that it's better to go to China? 'Cause there aren't many tourists there now, and sellers of cookies need to earn money!

N Korea said it has zero coronavirus case.
It seems to me that if they had had cases of infection, they would not have told the world community about it. First of all, because of their totalitarian government. In 1986, the Soviet Union told the world about Chernobyl only when the situation became very critical. However, it is worth saying that earlier the DPRK also introduced restrictive measures to protect the Republic from the spread of the coronavirus. The authorities have closed international flights and the entry and exit of tourists is also stopped. And also they temporarily suspended rail passenger service to China and Russia. In any case, I hope that the spread of coronavirus will end shortly

Hmmmm. Reading all this I can't help thinking that I am probably not the first guy to sit naked on that sofa in my cabin.
Damn! Dude, don't you hate sitting there? I hate to walk in socks on the floor at home even... But yep, all people are different, soooo

Buying binoculars for anyone is a really bad idea as being comfortable w a good pair of binocs is a very personal choice. The last time I bought binoculars, I spent several hours in the store checking out all the pairs that they had to see which ones worked for me. I also made certain that I could return them if I decided after I got them home that I did not like them. If you do want to buy them binoculars, give them a gift certificate to a good store that has a good selection and let them pick out the ones that they want. Same comment with regard to a good camera.
DON
Although I consider the binocular as a good gift but I fully agree w you about the fact that it's really better to buy a gift certificate in a good store. This is probably the case w all gifts that aren't very cheap and are related to technology. Once I gave a friend a phone for an anniversary but it did not suit her for a set of technical characteristics (it was too difficult for her to get used to it), and after that I give only certificates in such cases

Btw saw an interesting post few days ago (sorry if it already was here). So if even Queen takes care of her health and wear gloves at ceremony where she's never done it... I think, whatever the real reason is it's a good example for people

Interesting observation on a flight yesterday...everyone around us (including me) was pulling out wipes to clean tray tables and armrests. While, I don’t know how much it will help, planes are probably cleaner than they have been.
Such precautions are better than nothing in any case. In addition, the fact that many people have now begun to pay more attention to their own health and hygiene will not only help to stop spreading of the virus a little but also I hope will become a good habit for all of us

There is surely more than simple worries about the ship itself at stake with the Diamond Princess situation.
Don't you think people are equally concerned about how the entire situation was handled?
I think some interesting testimonies will appear from the people who had to endure the ordeal once they come out of quarantine. And what of the criticisms of the Chinese Professor who posted his concerns on YouTube saying there were no Red/Green zones and all the rest?
I suspect the customer impact will be wider than just that one ship TBH
By the way, the comments of those who survived the quarantine can seriously damage the reputation. One hundred percent after all there will be interviews of those poor people

I think a nice pair of binoculars would be great to have in Alaska, with all the whales, wildlife and glaciers. Plus, he could always bring it with him on future cruises. I always bring mine and love spying distant ships across the horizon and other interesting sights.

I read your comment and wanted to buy a pair of binoculars 🙂 This is really a very cool idea, thank you!

I travel with "hotel slippers" even though I've had them in my cabin in every cruise I've been on. It would be my luck the one time I didn't though... Walk around on the floor in a hotel or cabin in wet socks come time and see what they look like after a minute or two. You'll never go barefoot in one again.
I completely agree with you! In addition to the fact that there's a great chance to get your socks dirty, you can also get sick with something
-
I don't go barefoot in cabins, hotels, or in any public place. Even if it's cleaned regularly, I still feel a little anxious. That's why I usually take flip flops with me 🙂
CoronaVirus Impact on the Cruise Industry
in Ask a Cruise Question
Posted
I am not an economist or an expert on this topic, so I will just say my opinion. Of course, the coronavirus will have a devastating impact on many companies that organize cruises, perhaps this whole situation will lead to a tightening of many rules in the cruise industry (for example, to avoid cases like the Diamond Princess), but in general, globally, the industry is not threatened. As I have already said, those companies that have the resources and wisdom to adapt to the current situation will "stay afloat", and there will always be a demand for cruises. In addition, it seems to me that when the pandemic ends, the demand for various leisure activities including cruises, will increase significantly: people will get tired of sitting at home and being constantly restless. They will want to relax. But this, of course, will only happen when the danger has completely passed.
