  1. Have never received copious brochures, calls, etc. from Celebrity, but I'm easy. If they institute a  CC level between Elite+ and Zenith  with unlimited internet (for DW), I'm sure that I can sell her on a few months of cruising in 2021. Come on LLP...reel in the fish that are already on the line.

You had two cruises canceled and should have used the credit to book two new cruises.  You got Celebrity to change their policy for you.  That is rather disappointing.

So maybe heads should roll in the executive suites at Celebrity?

....I expect "cruising" will be changing somewhat when (and if) COVID-19 is past to include increased health screening of passengers, increased focus on the passenger experience instead of share holder "value," and a much more refined attitude towards "quests."

    100% food for thought.

Two minutes ago listened to CNBC report on 3 cruise ships heading to Miami with over 100 sick aboard.  Announcers irate that ships are still sailing and with Miami beginning to feel Corona strain they don't need cruise ships dumping additional sick on their doorstep.  Can understand why industry gets no sympathy from public.

I wondered on here a few weeks ago, after the Grand Princess incident, what would happen when there were more ships having "docking problems" in south Florida cruise terminals. I was comforted to be informed that the ship(s) would go to other ports....as GP did. Easy peasy.

....the reason many lines are dealing with passengers onboard and closed ports is because they did not stop cruising in a timely manner and cruisers were happy to go along with that. It sounds harsh but I have no sympathy for them.

I agree wholeheartedly and would take it further to say I have no sympathy for neither those lines nor those cruisers. C'est la vie.

We have 2 remaining booked cruises...after that may not be worth the hassles.

We last cruised in 2017. We have enjoyed cruising over the years, but the negatives of the hassle of flying to and from the port, border protection procedures, cutbacks, fare increases, etc. have outpaced the thrill we once felt about cruising. We can enjoy our oceanfront property with fewer negatives, but will likely cruise again. Others cruisers will have to compete for the sailings during our absence.

I do hope that all of the posters unhappy with the cruise lines will not be competing with me for sailings in the future.    Many postings on all of the cruise line boards are unhappy with the lines and how they are ha doing the situation.   Most lines are having to deal with passengers on cruises right now, getting supplies and finding anywhere to dock.   I hope all the unhappy posters will book other types of travel when we get the ok to travel.

I think that people who choose to cruise in the future, will do so, whether or not they are unhappy with how the cruise lines handle situations. You should be aware though that there are no guarantees that you won't face competition for future sailings.

I can appreciate the novelty of this situation and how quickly things are developing, but it seems to me they had NO plan for this even though many on this board predicted many of the outcomes.

To be sure, I do not think that many on this board prognosticating work for X, as such, X has no idea what people are saying here at the moment.

I think the point being made is to compare the apparent foresight of "many on this board" with that of X's well paid thinkers and planners.

  10. I think pax might be more likely to come forward and report symptoms (Noro, flu, Covid-19) to shipboard medical if  the negatives of isolation in-cabin were balanced with a package of positives (free internet, etc) for the duration of the incident. The pennies invested in these moves could perhaps yield dividends in better compliance with self-reporting of illness. Perhaps.

I would hate to be in Celebrity's operations room right now trying to figure out what to do.

Very tough circumstances for sure, but it is good that Celebrity has intelligent, experienced and well compensated executives in place making the decisions. Que sera, sera.

  12. Being calm is a good thing in these times. I empathize with those who are not able to achieve this state right now. We had begun planning 30+ days of cruising for March-April when news from China in January caused us to delay the process. So yes, we are calm at home with the heat cranked watching the waves crash.

Not at sea but very close.

When a cruise first opens for sale, that's when you'll usually get the lowest price. Guests who are canceling now and looking to rebook in the next year will find higher prices because these cruises have already been open for sale for many months. X is not trying to gouge their customers. If future bookings start to get soft X will reduce prices accordingly.

Yes. This is the booking game. Buns of steel are not required, but nerves of steel and an abundance of patience are great assets.
