We've taken our son on many NCL cruises and you can simply make the reservation for the entire party size. You won't be charged for a child unless you order from the specialty menu. You can then order from the kids menu or you can even swing by to see what's on the menu at the non-cover restaurants (MDR/Taste/Savour) and order anything from those menus. Never had an issue - just ask, everyone is always accommodating.

We are on the Getaway next week and there are 11 of us so NCL groups department reserved our 3 specialty dinners for the group of us.  They told us that the 2 that are kids can ordered off the kids menu and not be charged for them.

Am I the only one that wishes there was an option for a non alcoholic beverage package that wasn't just soda?

I literally survive on bottled water and specialty coffee!  I would love to be able to choose a beverage package that included premium non alcoholic beverages.....fresh juice, bottled water, and definitely specialty coffees!  I wish this was an option.  I love the idea of just having a package available and the freedom that goes along with not having to think about the individual cost every time I order something.  I am guessing this wouldn't be the popular choice but there must be some people who would enjoy that type of beverage package.

I wound up taking all the free at sea amenities for my upcoming 5 day sky cruise because it felt easier than choosing just 2.  But the premium beverage package will be wasted on me.  Maybe 1 or 2 virgin coladas and 1 or 2 sodas.  I would be so psyched if it included the non alcoholic "premium" choices.  I realize I can upgrade for like another $30 day but that feels a bit silly.  I would be the caffeinated maniac running loops around the jogging track to get my $30 worth.......

    Thanks for listening 😆

Me too!  I am used to RCI having this.  We are sailing on the Getaway in 11 days and I ordered the bottle water for our stateroom and I have the Starbucks app so I will just use that for my specialty coffees.  The UDP is not worth it for me even with just paying the gratuities.  This is my first time going on NCL.

    PEPSI PRODUCTS on board:

    Diet Pepsi

    Sierra Mist

    Diet Sierra Mist

    Mountain Dew

    Diet Mountain Dew

    Mug Root Beer

    Aquafina bottled water

This makes me happy as I need sugar free and really do not like Diet Pepsi but I do like the other one.

Can't talk to you about the sloths, unfortunately.

For Maya Key - You'll be docked at Mahogany Bay, which means you're a short 5 minute or less boat ride from the port in case one or both of the kiddos decides they are DONE and need a nap.  Boat shuttles run every 30 minutes or so between Maya Key and the port.  Easy peasy.

There's lots of things to do on Maya Key.  The beach, plenty of beach loungers, some really excellent snorkeling once you get to the drop off (all guided from my one experience), a rather interesting Mayan replica area with small museum type area inside, and quite a few rescue animals on the island.  No sloths that I remember, but they do have a number of monkeys (and big cats!).  Also, there's a free afternoon session where people can go into the monkey enclosure and let the monkeys climb all over you (you know, "hold" the monkeys... yeah right).  A buffet lunch was included which my picky kids were fine with the offerings, and there's a pool as well, though we never visited it.

We really enjoyed Maya Key.  Personally, I'd say you wouldn't go wrong if you chose it.  Of course, others may say the same about a sloth-oriented experience as well.

WE are doing this one on our November 2019 cruise!

Was only the flexible eating option left? They do have a set dining option. I would check with them in the dining room just when you get on board, there are always people who change their minds and they do hold back a certain percentage of options/reservations until boarding. I hope that you enjoying although I am sure that you will!

We have 3 nights of specialty dining that we have reservations for; however, the rest is my time dining.  We are going to try and get a set time and table (son-n-law is working on that).

I am Diamond on RCL and have cruised mainly with them and Celebrity but also tried others.

my first cruise with NCL was in June this year on the Breakaway, as I had no choice with the dates I had to cruise.
Like you I had some concerns but overall I had a great cruise and am off on the Getaway in December!

Positives - lots of great dining options, plenty of good bars and entertainment. The waterfront, such a great idea, have a drink or eat and watch the sea from outdoors. More adult feeling overall.

Negatives - tiny, tiny pool. Very, very casual dress (to the point of scruffiness sometimes ) but I am a Brit! 😂

I don’t see much to dislike - give it a go!

We are Emerald with RCI; however, we are also taking out first NCL (Getaway) in November out of New Orleans.  We have a Spa-Mini suite booked so that is a first for us (only done Balcony on RCI) and we get to use the indoor spa pool and etc with our room.  When we booked, we got the $1 deposit.  We will have a good time I'm sure and I look forward to trying something a little different.  I think the only thing that I will miss is not having a set table at dinner to have the same wait staff.  We always enjoyed having the same team but we are open for new adventures for sure.  Any day you are on a cruise and not at work is a GREAT day!

  7. We have done the whole Formal Night on Royal mainly for some good family photos. However, on our last cruise (Alaska) we chose not to.  It was less stuff to pack and we just went smart casual.  That being said, it don't bother me as to what other people wear to dinner (the food will taste the same regardless).  Sometimes you just have to pick and choose your battles and personally, that is one that isn't worth me burning brain cells over.

Where do I check to see if my edocs are ready to be printed? Is there a section I go to on the app?

On your NCL summary page.  Look in the top right hand corner and if they are ready it will say "Download eDocs"

On our last cruise, I thought that the soda package would be cost saving but as it turned out it was difficult to break across the two per day especially as I was only drinking diet and there a lot less choices to be had. I would have been a lot better off just paying as I went as I just couldn't keep that pace up. Bought one for the spouse too and she was even worse - so not going there again.

What Diet choices did you have?

You can definitely use the App to pay (I did it on the Sky), but make sure you reload before boarding.  I couldn't reload and my app wasn't showing the correct amount on my account.  It was fine, as the app still works with their system, but you won't know your balance.  (I only had the social media internet plan.)

I have the premium internet package so I will be able to keep track.  I will make sure I load enough money on there before I go so that I don't have to worry about it.

  11. We went last year mid-July.  I used a hooded sweatshirt and my Northface Jacket a lot.  I had a head band that covered my ears and I used my gloves.  Inside was normal temps; however, I did not use the pool but there were some doing so.  We LOVED Alaska!  We did a 3-day post cruise tour and inside Denali State Park it was hot (80's).  Layers work great.
