Thanks fellow Canadians for the quick and positive responses - we have selected our seats, however the booking reference we were given is not accepted by the airline. Oh well, I'll have our travel agent call HAL next week to try to give me reassurance (I was on hold for three hours yesterday before being disconnected). And fingers crossed!

I am trying to book airfare through Holland America and have found a fare, while not great, that I can accept. My problem is the qualifications and conditions given at booking suggest neither the seat nor the price is guaranteed until final payment for the cruise. If this is indeed the case, what is the point? I am not prepared to wait for four months only to find my airfare has jumped in price or worse, no seats are left on the flight. The option exists for a "restricted fare" which allows payment in full for a roughly 40% premium (in this case why is it restricted and the other called "flexible?) Can anyone shed some light or, better, share some direct experience? Regards
