oh boy.. that means Royal doesnt expect to be sailing after the 30day ban is over

I think it means there's increasing uncertainty about resuming operations in 30 days. At the same time, airfares got a lot cheaper. The cost of keeping them there now exceeds the cost of sending them home, and the longer this lasts, the greater the difference.

We're on the ship. All is well, after refuelling in American Samoa tomorrow we're off to Honolulu.

That's good to know. Honolulu is not only beautiful, it's a US port, so you'll have a much easier time finding flights home. When do they think you'll get in? It looks like you're maybe 2 or 3 days sailing to Hawaii? Arriving Wednesday?

  3. From Twitter
    @CruiseNorwegian

(1/2) Norwegian Jewel’s scheduled disembarkation in Papeete, French Polynesia on March 14, 2020 has been canceled and an alternative disembarkation was scheduled to take place in Lautoka, Fiji on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

(2/2) Due to the port closure in Fiji, however, we must modify her disembarkation plans. We are actively working to find an alternative port and are communicating with guests regularly as we have further information.

  4. They're still at sea.

NCL predicts that they'll disembark in Lautoka, Fiji on Tuesday.

Good heavens! That's the nightmare scenario: being unable to get back to the US from an unfamiliar foreign port. Or never get into port at all, like the Flying Dutchman.

That's exactly why I'm deeply concerned about the 3-weeks I'm booked to spend on Bliss next month. Not in the Pacific, but still . . . all these ports worldwide are suddenly closing without notice.

Following is a copy and paste directly from the NCL website! 😏

    100% Cruise Credit

You will receive a 100% future cruise credit for sailings that embark through December 31, 2022.

The letter from Harry Sommer, CEO of NCL dated March 7 said:

"Anyone choosing to cancel will receive a full refund in the form of a future cruise credit . . . "

So he's calling it a refund while actually offering a credit. He's lying.

This is the worst possible time for a CEO to be intentionally lying to the public. It's very troubling.

But younger people can contract the virus and contribute to the spread.

And the risk of infection is almost secondary to the operational and business risks, e.g. getting quarantined in foreign ports, being denied docking, whole countries like Italy being shut down with zero notice, flight shutdowns between EU and US, etc.

A cruise line that shuts off service now loses a known amount of money. A large amount. But by continuing to operate, they lose an unknown amount, which might or might not be vastly larger.

  7. Most NYC parking garages prorate by time, so if you stay longer, you pay more, but that's about it. They want to know how long you're parking so that they know how many cars they can park in front of yours while you're away. But if you tell them your situation that should work out fine.

If your itinerary starts and ends in NYC, it's hard to imagine a situation where the ship didn't get back. They have to send another cruise out about 8 to 12 hours after your cruise ends.

It does?  Carnival is still sailing.  Royal is still sailing.  Viking (mostly European river boats) and Princess (which has had the worst PR and infectious spread) have cancelled.

Some are sailing. And some have stopped. NCL has not yet announced that it will NOT follow suit. So the outcome remains uncertain, and many of us have invested significant money in that outcome. If you're not interested in that, feel free to ignore the issue.

Exactly.  Carnival (Princess' owner) hasn't cancelled any cruises....neither has Royal.

Not sure why this is posted in the NCL forums.  Shouldn't it be posted in the Princess threads?

Because it exemplifies the uncertainty across the industry, which potentially affects anyone holding a cruise booking. There is a non-zero probability that NCL will follow suit. Or not. Time will tell.
