  1. A friend wants to do a cruise out of Seattle to Alaska in October of 2021.  Has anyone does an Alaskan cruise in October? Trying to figure out what the weather would be like and if most excursions would be available.  I didn't think they cruised in October but she said it is on their website.  Any info you have would be greatly appreciated.

So you’re sailing on Anthem Sun Dec 8, 2019.  Are you planning to leave early Sunday morning and drive to EWR.  You could Uber/Lyft to the port for $35-45.  No shuttles.  Cabs run in the $50-60 range.

For  winter cruise we recommend having a plan B to come a day early in case of bad weather.

no we are going up on Saturday. Decided against renting a car going to use our car and just park at the pier.

Sorry - I wasn’t 100% clear.  I was actually wondering why you weren’t just driving your own car, if you have one.  The park/sleep/cruise packages work for personal cars, but the sleep/cruise packages would work with a rental car, particularly if you use a vendor that is accessible on the free Airtrain.

Where are you coming from in VA?  Is Amtrak an option?

It is actually cheaper to do 2 one way car rentals that it is to take Amtrak.  We are going to come up the day before and return the car to the airport then take the hotels shuttle back to the hotel.  The day of the cruise I think we are just going to find a shuttle (the hotel recommended one that is reasonable) to the ship.  We are staying at the Home 2 Suites.

The suggestion would be to use Uber or Lyft, which I haven’t used from the airport.  I’m thinking it would run $25-40 - folks will need to post their experiences.  No shuttles unles you buy the cruise line transfer for about $28.50/pp.  Cab would be in the $50-65 range.

Are you planning to drive from VA the morning of the cruise?  Did you consider a park/sleep cruise package with 14-21 days parking through trinityreservations.com since you’re sailing in December on a 12 night cruise?

We are driving up the day before but don't want to pay for the rental for the 12 nights plus parking.  I will look into Uber/Lyft.

Not unless you’re returning the car to Enterprise in Bayonne.  Where exactly are you returning the car?

We are planning on renting the car at home and returning it to a rental car lot close to the pier that hopefully has a shuttle to the ship and then get a shuttle back to the car rental place after the cruise to pick up another car (hope that makes sense to you 🙂  )

  6. Cruising out of PR in Feb. Hubby wants to book our return flight at 8 am. I don't think that will give us enough time to get off the ship (self carry) to airport and through security. He told me to ask the experts on here. So is it possible?

  7. I just called the new Embassy suites as their rates are only $152 (military) the person I spoke with said parking would be free, they have a car service they contract with and she said it was about $65. I asked if that was per person and she said no. I want to double check that but if it is correct that would be a great deal. and you get a free cooked to order breakfast too. Has anyone stayed at this hotel yet and use the car service?

  8. Parking at the port is $152. For $185 tax included you can book the Ramada Plaza through Trinityreservations.com including 21 days parking and round trip port transportation.

If that doesn't suit, post back.

Thanks Carol, that looks like a great deal! As a back up do you have a suggestion for a hotel in the hilton family that has parking and a shuttle (hubby has points with them but they may be too high). Appreciate your help :)

  9. On our last cruise there was a family with a young one in Chops. The little one started to cry and scream, Daddy quickly removed her from the room which was much appreciated. I think if you are prepared to take the little one outside if they get too loud it would be fine but as others said you will enjoy yourself more if you don't have to worry about it and your little one will probably like being in a more kid friendly enviornment. Sounds like your 6 yr old will enjoy the dinner and will have the added benefit of having her parents all to herself for a little while

  10. I'm sure you've been asked this a ton of times but 90+ pages to read through is way more than my attention span  We are driving up to NJ in March for a cruise on Quantum. Where would you recommend we stay? Is it better to park at the port or find a hotel with parking and a shuttle. I appreciate your help

  11. We didn't even wait until 2 am. It was about 8 in the evening when we went and got ours. If you think the walk to the aft cabins is long try it carrying a lounger.:D

No one questioned you about carrying chairs all that way. Hubby would be afraid we would get put off the ship at the first port if we tired that. Guess I'll have to find some younger adults and buy them drinks to do it for us lol
