  1. I took this class on the Carnival Celebration earlier this month! I also really loved it. Like you, I didn’t realize there would be a whole entire feast prepared for us after the class! Needs to be better explained. I really liked a few of the extra twists our chef threw into the dishes we were cooking. We also had a small group for our class; perhaps because it was for dinner? We liked that it was dinner—it was like having a small, private specialty dinner! Would definitely take another Carnival Kitchen class!
  2. Enjoying every minute of your blog! Thank you again. How many days did you need “summer” clothing when you started the trip? I’m packing right now and not sure about how much lightweight clothing to bring vs. Fall//Winter clothing. I know that its summer in Santiago and Buenos Aires, but not sure how quickly the weather changes as you sail south. Also, is it Caribbean summer hot OR is it Boston summer hot? Thanks—this is one of the most difficult cruises I’ve packed for, even with anticipating doing laundry on board!
  3. See you onboard! I’ll be doing a LIVE blog also! This will be my first time in Antarctica (and first time to Chile, Argentina and Uruguay). Also first time on HAL in 10 years.
  4. Everyone on my sailing wanted Port (even though in the opposite direction). I received an upgrade offer to a balcony (which we took!) but the only port side room was a mobility access room and I just don’t like to take those since I don’t need it right now (I have traveled when I’ve needed such a room before due to bad RA flare ups, and haven’t been able to get them). So we took a Starboard balcony.
  5. Catching up with your thread tonight—have had a full house of guests for Christmas including my MIL who has Alzheimer’s and my daughter from Japan—finally got a minute to myself! Really loving your in-depth report and all the photos from Antarctica! After my MIL leaves, I’ll finally get a chance to start packing this weekend! Can’t believe I leave for Chile a week from tomorrow.
  6. So glad you were able to go to the Falkland Islands! We are doing this same tour! I cannot wait to hear all about it! Also, was group 6 an early tender? Our tour guide was very adamant about us getting an early tender (even though we don’t have a ship excursion) and I’m already worried about that.
  7. Right? Isn’t this blog wonderful? Every morning over coffee I’m sharing it with my hubby. And see you on the Jan 7 cruise @Jo-D!
  8. Y’all clean up quite well! We’ve been debating what to bring for dressy nights—I think a sparkly top with my standard black evening pants, and hubby will bring a jacket.
  9. Also was VERY happy to see the Salsa Class on the activities schedule! Thank you for continuing to post the daily activities!
  10. So sorry to hear that you had to miss Punta del Estes, but I think it is wonderful that the captain did his captain’s talk with so much detail on the seas and weather. I don’t mind missing a port when the communication on the situation is that good. About 6 years ago, we were on a Viking Ocean cruise and missed two out of 4 ports (Algeria and Sardinia) and people were upset, but the communication on that particular cruise from the captain and crew was quite poor. Also thank you for your information re the Panama Canal talk—we might have decided to not go, except that we ARE interested in how the Canal affected shipping in this part of South America.
  11. Thanks very much for checking! Russ doesn’t drink at all and I drink very little, and sometimes its nice to have something non-sweet that is non-alchoholic! Our other go-to drink besides non-alcoholic beers are Nohitos!
  12. Thank you so much!! 💕 The classes are a little sedate for me, so I’ll bring some classes on my iPad and hope there is room to do them in my room (which may be amusing since I’m right above the photos area—thud thud thud on their roof)! And Heineken 0.0 is perfect!
  13. Two questions—do you have a schedule of classes in the fitness center (I’m looking for aerobics//zumba type of classes), and is non-alcoholic beer available?
  14. I travel usually with phone AND camera; and had left both behind. For my HAL trip next month, I’ll have my iPhone, the DJI mini pocket 3 AND my Nikon because, well, Antarctica so I need my telephoto!
  15. Yes, we heard that they made a full recovery. It also scared the heck out of me getting an announcement in the room in the middle of the night—put me right on edge, but was glad they could find help for the patient.
  16. Well on my Royal Caribbean trip in October, there was a major medical emergency in the middle of the night where the doctor needed someone with a particular blood type for a transfusion—I know this because they annouced which blood type they needed into the staterooms. They found someone, stabilized the patient, and a helicopter emergency transfer was made. So I think for real emergencies medical does spring into action
  17. No, he’s safe; I try not to feature other “civilians” on the ship, because they might be comfortable with being in front of people you’ll never see again ON the ship, but you never know who sees stuff on the Internet!
  18. I just found your post. It’s incredible how severe a UTI can be, and how quickly yours came on. At least you knew what it was, but how miserable to not be able to see a doctor until morning. Honestly on these huge cruise ships, they should have some sort of medical available 24/7.
  19. BON VOYAGE! And thank you for sharing. Looking at your room, I’m worried that the “couch” in the balcony cabins will be too small to put my legs out on (I like to stretch them out due to my RA). Glad you had what sounds like an easy embarkation! I’ve heard they can be chaotic and sometimes late in both Buenos Aires and Santiago, where we will be embarking. I am very curious to see how the internet works for your trip. Which plan did you get? Also curious about so much—the weather, the ports, Drake’s Passage!
  20. Ugh and sorry to hear you were unwell on the trip; hoping it wasn’t anything too serious (awaiting your report).
  21. That was your hubby! We were on this cruise as well, and at the Welcome Aboard Show. I did a (mostly) LIVE Blog from the cruise. Having some down time today so I’m curling up with your report!
