Why not?  All sorts of people have been making payments for cruises from a country that has instituted a set of conditions for cruising so stringent that the cruise lines aren’t even making a real effort to satisfy so as to return to their business operations.

I am not putting up money for a Neptune Suite out of vancover when both the airport and port are closed at lest to Americans.   We are in the middle of a pandemic.  I work from home.  Even my employers office is closed except if absolutely necessary.

Employers are worried and we are concerned about whether a cruise runs or not.

  2. Meanwhile the payment date for the May 22 koningsdam cruise is rapidly approaching.   I am not about to pay a significant lump of cash for a cruise that originates in a country where the government banned cruise ships for a year and is severely restricting air travel.

I think people at HAL expect too much.  It is not even clear that the CDC will let ships sail out of Seattle.   I signed up for a  roundtrip cruise from Vancouver over a roundtrip cruise from Seattle because of the more scenic route.

  3. I am just not sure about a cruise with severe restrictions.   One of my favorite trips was to the UK, where I had a Brit Rail Pass.  I went from London to Edinburgh, and took all sorts of side trips.

I want to get back to Alaska, especially Glacier Bay,   but the idea of not being able to stroll around Skagway (little bit of tourist trap) just does not sound palatable.

I was also hoping to spend a few days up in Whistler.

From the Canadian perspective,   the cruise issue was difficult,   people fly in from all over to Vancouver sometimes a week in advance.   People get off of the ship in Vancouver to fly home sometimes with extended stays.   How do you manage that?

The borders are supposed to be mostly closed right now.    Canadian authorities said lets try to get this under control.  Lets quit the guessing game.

I got the following quote from here:

The top suite I viewed onboard was #10005, a Neptune Spa Suite (SQ category); these range from 465 square feet to 502 square feet. See my photos at the top of this article.

Just inside the suite is a writing desk and then the space opens up to a large sitting area with forward facing windows, a lounging couch and two chairs, a large flat screen TV, and an entertaining area with mini-fridge, bar glasses, a coffee machine and fresh fruit.

Adjacent to the bed is the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door, opening to a normal sized balcony. But when a dividing panel on the balcony is opened, the veranda space then wraps around the front of the ship. Keeping that door panel shut, though, cuts down on hefty wind flow on the balcony when the ship is at sea.
