I read an interesting post on another forum that the new startup could possibly be CVI Cruise (owned by CMV former Chief Executive officer) and would make sense cause the new startup apparently  has experience and is expected to deploy the ship  in the UK Market and  whats interesting  is that Pacific Dawn was supposed to go to CMV before they went under as the Amy Johnson. Not sure who else it could be??

Ombud, I remember you are keeping track of the disposition of older ships. The Satoshi, formerly Regal Princess and Pacific Dawn has left Panama for Malta, then said to be bound for Alang.

Do we know for sure she is heading for Alang, Pretty sure I read somewhere the scrap deal fell through when she got arrested in Panama. And she was sold to a new buyer.?

    (1) The Majesty transponder has now been turned off for over a month.  Would love to know if she is still docked in Greece and what the ship is doing.

    (2) Empress has been at the same dock in Oman for over three weeks now.  Must be having work done before sailing for India.

Pretty sure Empress was bought by Cordelia Cruises.

Whether or not Empress sails for RCI in 2021, there won’t be any Alaska or Canada cruises until Canada opens its ports to cruise ships.

their was mention a bit ago about the Jones Act being temporarily suspended but i think it was based on what Canadas going to do.

I believe you are both onto something. My thoughts are the Canadian border will still be closed to cruise guests next summer because Canadians are not supposed to be “fully” vaccinated until the end of 2021.  Perhaps RC is realizing the same thing and is pricing Alaska out of the market.  I’m speculating that any tourists will also not be welcome until the end of 2021 as well.

I know the cruise lines were possibly looking at a temporary suspension of the Jones Act so they can sail Direct Seattle to Alaska. Not sure the status on that. But I think if Canada does open back up to ships it may be limited ships in port at one time. Alaska will be in very dire straits without cruise ships in 2021.

We are kind of wondering that too. First, cdc is saying no cruises over 7 days, and who knows when Canada will open back up. Then there might not be any other ships sailing from Montreal. Not looking good.

They could still do 7 day one way Cruises like New York to Montreal then a 7 day return Montreal to New York. You're probably going to see some interesting itineraries when re strart begins without 7 plus days.

Speculation is that their owner has bought the ships as purely an investment (and not necessarily to operate them) and intends to resell them to new owners at a profit once the COVID pandemic passes and the value of the ships increase.

I would suspect Seajets may Charter them too.

'There are plenty more ships in the sea'.

Crunch time, however is coming to Pullmantur. Their website still says cruises are suspended only as far as 13th November and are still advertising cruises on ships currently sold and scrapped. Their public line, at least, will have to change.

is it possible they may use a ship from RCCL existing fleet

Announced today that it went to Mystic Investments, an Italian travel firm that holds a couple of river cruising companies and an Antarctic cruise line called Mystic Cruises. No word on what they will do with it. Not suited to either role. Amount not disclosed. However, the company that bought the former Pacific Dawn, which is to become the Satoshi said they could not have afforded the purchase in 2019. Perhaps too good a deal to pass up?

I did read they were gonna use it for the British and German markets but not sure if she will sail under their Astro Ocean brand or not

The auctioneer makes notice all rights extinguished prior to sale...clear title. Thanks! Interesting to follow.

What, no Instacart for cruise ships on lay-up?

Well to go from Cadiz to Anchorage back to Cadiz sail around for a while now back at anchorage. How is that not odd. For a ship in long term cold lay up she seems to move alot.

Eggarforresterships.com/auctions is handling the sale the CMV ships. The first auction is Oct 8.  They post buyer and price. I have always been interested to know how much a used cruise ship actually sells for, not just the asking price. The smaller cruise lines that don't go under, pardon the phrase, are now able to update their fleet.

Regarding Elation and Paradise, they are the newest and have the forward deck cabins added, likely they will be the final two Fantasy class to go.

FYI Carnival holds the morgage on Vasco de Gama,Magellan and Columbus. Well see how the auction plays out for that.

Sun Princess has been sold to Peace Boat (Japan) and rumors are Sea Princess has been sold to Astro Ocean.

How can we book these, if possible

I think Astro Ocean operates exclusive out of China....and Peace Boat is an Educational sea going network..! They currently operate Ocean Dream (Ex  Carnival Tropicale)
