    Is this how it works:

    Let's say I booked a cruise for $2000 and used the "10% discount"....so the cruise became $1800.

Now I get issued the new "10% FCC" of the canceled cruise...which is $180?

And of course any cruise booked would even be more expensive!

Oh well, I guess any discount is better than no discount....or maybe I'm confused.

On principle.....making me want to downgrade.

That's not how it worked for the one instance where I had it successfully applied to a reservation.  It actually reduced the total cost (it may not have included the drink package gratuity) by 10% of the new reservation base cost.  I was able to replicate the math.

That's a good rate, but add gas, parking, and the cost to get from MIA (or wherever you return the car) to the port and I think a $35+ Uber/Lyft from FLL to downtown Miami where you can walk to dining and shopping, is also a good option.  Your call!

    Have a great cruise! 😎

    Thanks.  🙂

You actually return the car at an Avis location near the port and they provide a free shuttle to the ship.  Gas is meaningless for less than 30 miles (maybe $3 - $4?), and we'll stay at a hotel with $10 per night parking (likely Hyatt Place by MIA).  Also, they'll be three of us with luggage so an Uber might not work out great.  I've actually never used Uber but need to so I better understand the process.  I do have the app installed on my phone and it looks very simple.  The costs of most options are pretty trivial, so it likely comes down to personal preference.

I think you misunderstood my response.  Yes, the 10% coupons are good for a 10% discount on a future cruise.  As I understand it, you don't get a second one, even though they say you get one as long as you don't have an active (unused) certificate in your account.  But there have been many complaints from people who didn't get them.  If your cruise is cancelled and you used a 10% certificate, you will get that back.

This was the response my TA got from NCL when I didn't get a 10% certificate for my cancelled May cruise:

"Special notes regarding applicability of the 10% discount: • If a previously issued 10% discount coupon currently exists on the Latitudes account as active and unused, a second discount coupon will not be issued.  • If a previously issued 10% discount coupon was applied to this now suspended sailing, the discount coupon will be re-applied back to the Latitudes account (a second discount coupon will not be issued).

Now they are saying 10% fcc - which is different than a 10% certificate.  It sounds like you will get fcc based on the cancelled cruise, not a 10% discount for a future cruise.

Thanks.  Trying to unravel that gives me a headache.  I'll call them tomorrow and duke it out.

Provisioning from Bermuda would be expensive since everything in Bermuda already is and everything arrives there by air or boat.   Also, 2000 (or how many passengers arriving at Bermuda on mostly the same day and needing to depart on the same day, assuming they don't stay over, flights.

I can't speak to the passenger issue, but I would imagine that they could sail/return and then sail empty ship to major port to reprovision and return.  It might require a rotation of two ships to keep the crew busy.  Not ideal, but we're not living in ideal times.....

Sounds like they are giving you FCC based on the fare for your cancelled cruise, not 10% toward something new.

The one I was successful in using was for a more expensive cruise (Hawaii vs. Alaska) and I did receive a full 10% savings.  I'll probably call them tomorrow and ask why I haven't received my new 10% off promo.  The one I used for Hawaii (next May) was from a May 2021 Alaska cruise that was cancelled.  The one I'm now supposed to receive is for an Oct 2021 Alaska cruise that was just cancelled.  If this gets any more complicated, I'm likely going to need to start a flow chart. 🤣

Thank you friend!!!  😀  That is exactly what I was looking for!!  I don't care about exact prices, just a general idea of options and ballpark costs.  This will do!   I was specifically interested in the options for either MIA or FLL departures after a Miami cruise arrival.  They both look dirt cheap.  I wasn't sure if they even offered an FLL transfer.

  7. I'm a lightweight.  Only three Covid cancellations so far.  But, I've got four more bowling pins set up waiting for that NCL big black ball to knock 'em down.  It's not that bad, as they never have more than a grand of my money in the "float."  I'm not delighted about that, but that's Covid for ya'.  I've avoided any and all temptations to let them keep my money and accept their "great future cruise credit mega, super, awesome" offers.  The deposits I know I can get back, with my credit card company's hammer if necessary.

I just finished battling with them via e-mail and finally get my second FCC as I had two cancelled sailings.  They kept saying I had already gotten it and had already applied it to another cruise until I had pointed out that I had had two cruises cancelled within 1-1/2 months of each other.  I DID receive the FCC from my first cancelled cruise and HAD applied it... but despite my supplying all the details of the second cancellation, they skimmed over my e-mail ignoring the specifics and claimed that I had already gotten my 10% FCC and did not dig any deeper.  So, I sent customer service copies of BOTH cruise cancellation letters along with other supporting info like reservation numbers and the validity dates of the first FCCs and they finally "got it".  My second FCC showed up almost immediately.

If you're missing any FCCs, I suggest you pursue e-mailing customer service with copies of each cancellation letter and the cancelled reservation numbers they pertain too along with an explanation of how many FCCs you're missing and which cancelled cruises you're missing them for.

It is clear to me that my second FCC was never going to be automatically put into my account if I had not gone after it.

Thanks.  I've had three cruises cancelled.  The first was a year ago, and I don't think the 10% was being formally offered.  The second was a few months ago, and the 10% offer showed up in my account twice, until I applied one and they both disappeared.  This new one was from just a couple days ago when they cancelled my October Alaska sailing.   I appreciate your suggestions.  I will poke at this with them, as it might be worth a couple hundred dollars.  I'll let the forum know if I have any success. 😎

  9. Yeah, even using my first was a bit challenging.  My "personal cruise consultant" who calls me every time I put a new itinerary on hold, stated that I would have to cancel all existing reservations for that voyage and let him help me set up a new one to take advantage of the 10%.  He threw out a saving number that was something like 6.54783%, which I just assumed meant that a meaningful portion of the total cost was excluded from the 10% off.  Then I asked him to cancel what I had so that we could proceed.  He was highly confused and told me I had to do it through their website, which offered no such options.  He then said he would have to find out and call me back.  Of course, a quick search revealed language on the NCL website that the only way to cancel was to call their reservations number.  I did that, and for the second or third time in my NCL days was totally blown away by how friendly, knowledgable and helpful the agent was.  She told me that she could apply the 10% to my existing booking and, yiola'(!!), the total price actually dropped by 10%!  Real math here!  I'm guessing my experience is not uncommon to forum regulars (I'm the newbie here). 😁

She also checked my rooms for me to ensure that my choices were good, as the website only allows a limited selection.  This time they were fine but in the past I've had agents move me to better options (in the same price category).

I was so close to going on the cruise and getting enough points for 2 strawberries and a free bag of laundry 😞 This would have been helpful for a longer cruise.

🤣  That said, I would be more interested in the dinners at Cagney's, etc. and another 5% - 10% off shore excursions.  Both of those are essentially $$$. 🤑

Just booked a December 2021 cruise from port of Miami.  Asking if we should look at flying into FLL or Miami?  Pro vs con of each airport.  We will be flying in a day early and staying at a hotel (yet to be determined).  Any info or help you can provide will e greatly appreciated.

We're sailing out of Miami for the first time this October (Covid willing).  Our best chance of a non-stop is into FLL, so we'll likely go that direction.  I checked prices yesterday for a one day, one way Avis rental from FLL to the Miami cruise port location, and it was something like $26 for a Camry.  That lets us get off the plane, eat where we want, sleep where we want and drive to the port when we want without Uber, shuttles or anything else.  I may have to pay a few $$$ for parking at the hotel.  Whatever. 🙂

  12. We just had our third NCL cancellation since COVID started.  I again received a form letter email that stated:

"As we are sure you share our disappointment, we have issued a 10% discount in the form of a Future Cruise Credit. This credit can be used for up to one year from date of issue and can be applied towards any of our currently published sailings through December 31, 2022. The Future Cruise Credit will be available on March 23, 2021."

I was able to successfully use one of these to reduce the cost of an NCL cruise booked for next May.  The second disappeared, and the third hasn't shown up yet.  Has anybody been able to use more than one of these?

Yes, it has two stops in Canada so I was surprised it has not been canceled yet.  I thought maybe they were hoping things would change by the end of August with the vaccine, but I doubt it.  My March cruise was canceled this year and I have another the end of January 2022.  Hopefully that one will not be canceled.

I'm guessing that NCL is in no hurry to cancel and may be cancelling as they perceive opportunities to get the ships sailing sooner elsewhere.  It will be interesting to see what happens with the three Alaska ships that just got cancelled.

You better hope that the connection at LAX will be with the same carrier or one of its code share

partners. If the connection is with airline X arriving in terminal 2 and that outbound Hawaiian

connection is with United in terminal 7 - GOOD LUCK - if in the same terminal or adjacent one

have the gate agent meeting the flight to alert the gate at the connection (AND the number of

potential guest/passengers making that same connection) - Speak Up if the airline does not

know they may care less about. Some airlines with many connections may have the FA

announce the gate number of connection departure. If handicap assistance is needed have

that transmitted to the arriving gate agent - Don't be complacent - Speak Up ! ! !

AND about your checked luggage - if the connection is with United there are enough daily

trips to get your delayed luggage to you in the same day. Watch out for the NCL airline with

once daily trips - not good !

Likely all good advice, but after that first (and only) experience having NCL book our flights, I've always just booked my own since.  To do anything else would just give me flashbacks to Megacorp where some secretary who didn't like anybody would decide what to book.

Hi Folks, We booked POA for September with the NCL air deal. I’m a little worried about the comment somebody made about ridiculously short layover in LA, they almost missed their flight to Honolulu. We are in Denver and expect layover in LA. Can anyone supply additional info?

They booked us on a smaller commuter jet to LAX with about a one hour scheduled layover.  United (I think) was out of gates, so our plane had to sit and wait for about 30 minutes until a gate opened up.  That gave us about 30 minutes to "run" to the next terminal building and board the plane.  Not a fun way to start a vacation.  The people in the row behind us on the first plane were also going to Hawaii for POA.  They said they had made the trip the prior year, were on the same flights, and had the exact same thing happen then.  Yikes!!

  18. We had NCL provide flights the last time we sailed POA.  They booked a ridiculous short layover at LAX on the way (we made it, but just barely) and they had us sitting around Honolulu until Saturday night flight, which meant the sun was coming up once we finally made it back to Arizona.  We won't do that again.

It's important to note context here:

There's much less incentive for Disney to get back to operating cruises as there is for a company like NCL.

Excellent point.  Disney has much deeper pockets, and is more likely to take the conservative approach.  The other lines are likely nearing sink or swim (sail).

  20. Our Oct 3 Encore was cancelled.  I received two emails, official cancellation confirmation and letter explaining and apologizing.  I only had $250 cash deposit, so that will come back (again).  The letter also indicates that I'll receive a 10% FCC discount towards a future cruise.  The last time they cancelled our cruise (May), we received the same thing.  I called the reservation number and she was able to apply it to a May 2022 Hawaii cruise I already had booked.  It did save us some money.  I'll try the same when this one hits my account.  I have two other cruises booked and another on 3 day hold.  We'll see.
