We did a similar trip in 2022, so COVID was still a lingering issue. There were restrictions on going into Canada on the train, so we rented a car in Skagway and did it on our own. It was one of the best days of the cruise. The car was waiting for us in the parking lot right outside the ship, and we dropped it off there when we were done. We stopped along the way to hike and see the scenery, had the suspension bridge pretty much to ourselves, walked around the Carcross desert, stopped at Tagish Lake Kennel and took a 4 wheeler ride with the dogs, and hit the miner's cemetery on our way back to town. Be prepared for any weather in September, we were there in early August and the temps dropped from about 70 to about 35 and we had sleet on the way back.

Welcome to the Daily! We're glad you found us. Thank you for that very interesting article about the white squirrels in Olney, Illinois. I'm from Missouri so that's our neighbor. I would love to see an albino squirrel up close and personal. Fascinating!
Thanks, it's nice to be here! I've been lurking for quite a while. A friend told me about CC when we booked our first cruise over a year ago, so I've been browsing and learning. I really appreciate all the info and advice from the experienced cruisers, and it's been nice "getting to know" some of the folks here. HAL was kind of a random thing for us--we're going with a group and someone else made the decision--but from everything I've seen it will be a good fit.

I am sure it is an albino squirrel, they pop up around here every so often.
I think the black squirrels are a different species of squirrel rather than a genetic oddity.
White Squirrels of Olney There is a small town in Southern Illinois that has a lot of white squirrels.

Good for you on the planning - I’ve always been reticent to use FB and relied on roll calls but whatever works?
Back to my question - name of the land tour/cruise package please? Thanks.Sorry, it's just a cruise, Glacier Discovery Southbound.

happy to add it for you 🙂 I hope you enjoy your first cruise and have a wonderful 26th anniversary celebration on board. appreciate the tip if it’s a charter to find the itinerary 👍
Thanks, @kazuit's not a charter, just a group booked on a regularly scheduled itinerary. We did find the roll call, but the group we're going with also has a Facebook group so we're making most of our connections there. We started planning more than two years ago, so we're very excited that with COVID and everything else going on, it looks like we are actually going to make it!

Recommendations for "do-it yourself" excursions in Alaska?

We rented from Affordable Car Rental, and we were only about 2 weeks out from our trip at the time. I can't remember the price, but it was reasonable--maybe $250 or so for the day. I will say there wasn't a lot of communication, so I was crossing my fingers that the car would be there when we arrived--but it was there and ready to go, and everything went great. I would definitely rent from them again.
