1.
I've asked this elsewhere, but did not understand the answer--how do you attach the shoe thingies that have a lot of compartments in them in the bathrooms? Someone said they have velcro--is there velcro on the bathroom door? Do they have just one hole for only one hook or are there two holes and two hooks on the bathroom door. Am thinking of getting one (maybe) and just have no idea how to hang it. Guess I'm not too handy!
    (sob) Elena
Mine has metal clips that hang over the top of the door.
  2.
Anyone have any input on the "aft" cabins on the Conquest? We just got an upgrade to cat. 8-F, cabins 7446 & 7448 across the very back on the Empress deck. I understand the cabins are bigger and have an extended balcony. Is there a down side? Noise etc.

    Thanks,
    Doug
We love the aft!

First cabin was 7444, and we loved it! Our cousins were in a suite, and they spent more time in our cabin then theirs. The balcony is a lot deeper, and the view is just wonderful.

Now we have changed to the aft-wrap cabins, unfortunately for us, we can never go back to the regular aft cabins.

I just want to do my civic duty, and let everyone know: The Aft-wrap cabins are bad, bad, bad.... you don't ever want to book one :D.
  3. Hello ALL!!!

Been on the Conquest, in a balcony before. Is there a big difference in a 9A and reg balcony. I have found pics of the room but these were taken in '05 and I beleive ??? the ship has been refurbished since then?

Also, puter service. Anyone know if its worth taking laptop, price, ect. or just use the internet cafe?

Yes, there is a HUGH difference in balcony size, between the aft balconies and the aft-wrap. The price difference is worth it to us, but everyone is different.

We were in cabin 7444 on our first cruise, cabin 6483 last year. We loved the cabin/balcony so much, that I booked 6483 for this year, three days after getting home from Galveston.

I took my laptop last year, but they were having tons of trouble with the internet connection; so I never even booted it up.

  4.
we are sailing out Nov 15th. on the Conquest out of Galveston. :D First cruise in 3 years and first cruise on Carnival.. Hope this helps.
  5. Your Cruise Director, Ralph Valente has invented a Cruise Critic Secret Sign!Gayle Snedecor

    That is so cool!

We also made a run to KFC, while in GC. Not only did I have a personal message for Ralph from John Heald; I also was able to provide him with his wings.....

He was by far, the best cruise director we have ever had; and I can only hope he is still on the Conquest, next November.

  6. 2006 Ordered liquor from Bon Voyage department to be delivered to cabin. Wasn't there when we arrived, and was told it couldn't be delivered until we left Texas (blue laws).

2008 Ordered liquor from Bon Voyage to be delivered to cabin. Expecting it to be delivered after leaving Texas, we got a huge surprise..... It had already been delivered. WOOHOO!!!!!

  7. I wanted to give everyone sailing on the Conquest a heads up that the internet cafe was having some technical difficulties on our cruise (10/26-11/2). I personally confirmed that it was down the 10/29-11/1, but another couple told us it had been down the entire week. They said they were particularly miffed because they had mentioned it to a few crew members who had told them their internet access was still working. Maybe someone on the 11/2 cruise can confirm if they resolved the issue when they get back.

No, the issue has not be resolved. I tried several times, but just finally gave up.

  8. Hello. My wife and I are leaving on our 1st cruise on the Conquest on Nov. 2nd. We were wondering about formal nights. What is the dress code? Will a dress shirt and tie work?

Come join our Roll Call, we are pretty active, especially now we are so close to sail away.

Since the Conquest will be repositioning from Bayport to Galveston, the embarkation will be later than normal.

I believe that sail-away is now around 6:30PM, and with the time change it will actually feel like 7:30PM :( (fall back, spring forward).

    Great information in one place...Thanks!

  10. On the ecstasy last year, we bought a couple bottles of liquor, the last night of the cruise... we took it back to the room for debarkation the next day, I belive, if you buy it earlier, it is delivered to your room the last night. We paid about $25/bottle for crown, turkey and some vodka of some sort.. I dont remember the brand name.

If you are looking to purchase something at the beginning of your cruise for consumption during your cruise, I am not aware that you can do that, other than wine. Hope that helps.

You can order liquor for your cabin through the Bon Voyage department. You must call them directly, as it is not advertised on the website.

Yes, you pay a premium for the liquor, but still a lot less for each shot. We still have a healthy S&S account, but not as much as it would be without first stocking our cabin :D .

  11. I know this has been asked and answered but can't find it..

How much much would a bottle of Wild Turkey or such whiskey be thru the ship? How do you order it? Is it in your cabin when you arrive? Is there a list somewhere with prices?

    Thanks..

    Carolyn,

I paid $38 for a liter of Jim Beam, through the Bon Voyage department.

  12. Here's is link to Houston Transtar which will give you details on the road work at any given time and what's upcoming.

If it's the Biker Rally Weekend I doubt they will be shutting much down. As a final check you may want to call this number 409-978-2500. It's the TxDOT office for the Galveston County area. Be polite to the lady there and she should help you.

    Thank you!

  13. :o I live in a section of Houston called the Clear Lake area, very close to Galveston. Construction has interstate highway 45 South tied up every single day. But beware! Sundays are sometimes picked to close highway lines down even further, sometimes completely, perhaps from Hobby Airport to the one-laned sections of "on going construction." Even the bridge to cross over into Galveston has been known to be close for hours or again to a one-laner. If you are visiting to take a cruise, this can add some hair-pulling stress, while sitting on the highway going no where. Of course the locals know to take Highway 3 and by pass this mess, along with not taking the "feeder lanes", smaller streets with lots of lights.

You can go on-line to find out weather, air flight problems but this information seems to be told only briefly on local news and in the local paper. Make sure to use your own resources, be it electrical or hearsay, to help you prevent vacation wipeout, even before you make the magical island called Galveston. Of course it has been advised many times on this board: Go the day before, Saturday, and spend the night on Galveston. Just make sure you have a reservation, because rooms are prime different times of the year.

    Meirah,

We are sailing during the week of the Biker Rally Weekend, and were unable to get a hotel on Galveston Island. I was not going to pay $269.99, for the Quality Inn, so we are staying in Webster. Do you think they will still be working on I-45 at the beginning of November???

  14. We are planning on booking our Grand Cayman stingray city tour through Captain Marvins online. We're thinking of doing the 8:30 tour and I see the boat arrives at 7:00....does that give us enough time to get off the boat and tender to the island or would we be better booking the later tour?

All I can tell you is that we booked the 10:00AM, and were told to be at the Captain Marvin's office by 9:15.

If they are still doing business that way, I do not see how you could be tendered off the ship, and at their place of business, within 15 minutes of the boat being anchored.

  15. Which AFT Balcony rooms on the Empress deck are preferred? I thought I saw it posted in this thread, but I can't find it for the life of me. I believe that I read that some of the rooms are more narrow and/or only have a small table and chair as opposed to a couch. Thanks!

We loved our aft cabin (7444) on the Empress deck; and it had a couch.

  16. We could stay in Houston and then go to Galveston the morning of the cruise but I'm concerned about the traffic. Would hate to have a problem last minute.

I understand, that is why I booked in Webster, which is located about 30 miles North of Galveston. There are several towns between Houston and Galveston and you could also try some of the hotels around the NASA area.

  17. I hope you are able to book something reasonable. I'm seriously considering canceling our cruise as I don't want to have to pay $250 plus each for two rooms on this Motorcycle Rally weekend. :(

    Mike,

If you mean you're traveling this year, I booked in Webster, about 30 minutes North of Galveston. You are correct about the hotel situation in Galveston. The cheapest room I could find was $269.99, and that was at the Quality Inn  We called the hotels directly, tried several different internet searches, and even tried American Express customer service to no avail.
