    Day 12, Kauai

It's hard to believe that this is the last full day of our cruise! No port stop today... "Cruising the Napali Coast".

I've got to visit GS today to find out what the 2 mysterious $50 charges are for that appeared on our account yesterday. They are labeled "shore excursion" but our shore excursions were booked and paid for long ago.

We are due to dock in Honolulu tomorrow at 6:00am. Not sure how much I will be posting today...maybe some scenery looking at the coast.

Did you have refunds for two cancelled excursions?  That would explain them.

The airline cannot keep your money for a flight you did not take - dispute the charge on your credit card - even f you don't have the US protections on your credit card - a business cannot charge you for a service you did not receive ever.

Of course they can.  Have you not heard of non-refundable fares?

There is also the Turo option - we had the car delivered to us at the port, which we took to Eleele and used to tour around after the boat tour.

The Turo option would be better if the car can be dropped to the port. It would give you some flexibility to explore before the Nāpali Tour.

Thanks for the recommendations.  We generally enjoy our Bloody Mary's with breakfast and the boat tour serves cocktails (included), so driving is out of the question.  The rep at Kauai Taxi has been great to work with so it should be very enjoyable.

Lesson learned: the tour website indicates 1:15 check-in and four to five hour duration.  I called them (fortunately) and was told that while they begin check-in at 1:15, the boat actually sails at 2:00 - 2:30.  They time the return for sunset, which is 7:01 PM.  So, while I originally scheduled the return pick up for 6:30, I had to push it back to 7:30.

No NCL ship "requires" dining reservations...at least not for the MDR. We have yet to make a reservation for any MDR and have never had a problem getting in either immediately, or a couple minute wait.

Now, if you're talking Specialty restaurants, that's a different ballgame. Although, I know of people who have walked up to a Specialty restaurant and gotten in. So, in that case, reservations weren't "required".

You are absolutely correct. I used the wrong words.  The post I was responding to read as if they weren't making any plans in advance and that on smaller ships that isn't necessary.  Technically, it's not.  But if there is a specialty you wish to eat in around dinner time, an advance reservation in most of the venues is highly useful.  The are often "required" if you don't want to get stuck waiting until later at night to eat.

Depending on the cabin you book you can use one or two of them (sometimes three if there is a promo running), which means a discount of between $125 and $375 on your cruise.

Just to clarify.  Even if they are NOT running a double-up promo when you book on the ship, you can still buy two, use one and then apply the second to that reservation during the next double-up promo.  Despite T&C language to the contrary, we've recently had confirmation that the second CN can be applied to an existing reservation.

We like peace and quiet and want to relax while we cruise with no need to make a reservation to everywhere and schedule our days deciding in advance when we want to see a show etc. Hence we choose the smaller NCL ships.

Smaller NCL ships don't require dining reservations?  That's something new.
