  1. Thank you so much. We are anxiously awaiting the fall 2026 cruises. 😁
  2. My husband and I went on PG in 2017 and really liked it. I understand the ship has been refurbished since then. In looking at a brochure on the ship, it appears that cabins 701 and 7002 are both listed as an "owners suite", but 701 is 457 sq ft with a big bathroom (double vanities) while 7002 is 531 sq, but a small bathroom with one vanity. Has anyone been in these cabins and, if so, is there a big difference? We want to book a trip for a big anniversary trip. I like a bigger bathroom, but then the room itself must be smaller given the square footage listed. Any info would be very welcome!
  3. Thanks. All these responses have been very helpful!
  4. Your comments were really helpful. We are doing a Norway cruise for 14 days, with 4 seas days. It’s an additional $36k, and based on your comments, we are inclined to not upgrade. Thank you so much!
  5. Thanks so much. It helps to have first hand information!
  6. We have booked a cruise for 2024 on the Silver Dawn in a Silver Suite. We are thinking about upgrading to a Grand Suite which is at the front of the ship and it has a large balcony. Because the balcony is at the front of the ship, we are concerned about how windy it will be on the suite’s balcony when the ship is moving. Has anyone stayed in one of the Grand Suites and if so, so there any kind of wind screen or other protection against the wind or even a wind protected area of the balcony? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  7. We are traveling on the SS Beatrice in May. Does anyone know if there is a pool and/or hot tub on the sun deck? We’ve never traveled with uniworld but have heard good things.
  8. We are on this cruise and wondered if expedition type jackets are provided by Ponant and in any event, if we will really need them. Has anyone been on this cruise? If so, what’s the weather like by the time you get to the northern most part of the cruise? I am assuming layers will be essential, but wanted to confirm. Thanks and love cruise critic boards and posters. Always very helpful
  9. The new chef made a big difference and the food has been excellent since then. Really enjoyed the cruise, overall
  10. The excursions have been quite nice and the scenic Enrich program (wine reception at Chateau followed by concert) was excellent. Tonight we are dining at La Rive, which has gotten great reviews from the pax who have dined there.
  11. The ship has about 110 pax, max capacity is about 150. The staff said the first 2 cruises this year were about 60 pax each and then up to 90 pax on the cruise just before this one. Next cruise is almost completely full. This is our first trip on Scenic, and third river cruise. We have been on several ocean cruises. We have spoken to other pax who have been on Scenic before and said the food and service on other Scenic cruises was better. A new chef arrived yesterday so it will be interesting to see if the food improves. The staff is working very hard and are quite friendly. I do believe they are short staffed and haven’t been taught properly about service, so not their fault.
  12. We re on the scenic diamond now. Food is sometimes great, sometimes just okay. Sadly inconsistent and today (half way thru our trip) they just introduced a new chef???? Wines are okay, with a few very good wines. Excursions are quite good with lovely tour guides. Staff is very good, but it’s pretty clear they don’t have enough staff. Lots of small things that should be taken care of, just aren’t. Overall, though, glad to be traveling. 😀
  13. On most evenings, very few men had a sports coat. On the Gala Welcome dinner, well over half the men had a coat, but many just wore a dress shirt and nice slacks. The women dressed up more than the men. I think I only saw one, or maybe two, ties so that’s definitely a “not needed” item.
  14. Do download the Tailormade app as that is how you listen to your tour guide, on your smart phone. They only have a few machines on board for you to borrow as most people have a smart phone. It works well. I wish I would have brought ear phones as you have to hold your phone up to your ear but that’s not a big deal.
  15. We are on the scenic Diamond right now. We didn’t get our paperwork until just before we left the US..and some didn’t even arrive until after we left the US. But don’t worry, they were clearly prepared for people arriving without the usual paperwork. I am doing a separate posting about our trip…just started the post today. Weather has been fantastic
  16. We embarked on May 5. Getting information about embarkation was very difficult (ie what time and where) and I will assume it was because of the IT problem. We received the final papers just days before we left, via email. We didn’t get the “Welcome booklet” (only via email) until we had already left for France from the US. Would have been nice to have it beforehand to answer questions, like what sort of adaptors we need. Once on board, however, it was great. All the staff are very friendly and trying hard to please. There are some minor issues with the level of service we expected. For example, we sat outside on the top deck this afternoon for an hour and no one came by to ask if we wanted anything. We have had to ask to have items replenished in our mini fridge. Sometimes we get ice every day, sometimes we don’t. No one knew what the cooking class topic was going to be, more than a few days in advance. The food is generally good, but until the gala welcome dinner, found it to be good, not great. The gala dinner, however, was excellent. It would be nice to have more info about where we are going in advance. I realize the tides are significant and make things challenging to schedule, but certainly it should be known before we left where we were going and when. The excursions are nice and a good selection. the dress during the day is very casual. In the evenings, unless it was the Gala dinner, most men do not wear a jacket and the women generally wear slacks and a nice top. On the Gala evening, about 75%of the men had on a sports coat (almost no ties to be seen) and many women had on nice dresses. After 3 nights on board, I am overall happy with the cruise and the staff, but there are just a few service issues which need to be improved. I’ll update as the cruise continues.
