Today is August 16th.  Our cruise that we couldn't board was July 15th Alaska sailing.  We got our cruise fare back today and the $500 deposit is suppose to show up anytime.  That is right at a month for the refund although we notified Celebrity before the cruise that we tested positive.  They made us jump through hoops, but once we did, I feel the refund arrived quickly.  They said it would take 15-20 additional days for it to hit my credit card, but the main portion arrived in just 12 days from the last conversation with Celebrity.

Sorry you had to cancel but glad you got your money back!

  2. Hi all!
I believe this subject has been discussed but can’t find the post.  Can anyone please tell me where we can get a COVID test in Rome before we board. Going a day ahead of time on Saturday and we board on Monday. I want to test on Saturday in VA before we depart but I am afraid they will say it’s past the 2 day mark. Has anyone experienced this or have you gotten tested in Rome?

     Thank you

No, Alaska. He was actually asymptomatic when tested. We both eventually ended up with mild colds. And I knew I had it due to symptoms but didn’t test positive for a week. So I’m not real confident regarding the tests.

Sorry you had to experience that. Did Celebrity deny you boarding and arrange transportation home?

    Thank you.

My husband tested positive after a land tour and prior to boarding the ship. This was July 15. A Celebrity rep was present at the testing center so I presume the positive test was noted by the rep on our reservation.

On July 18, our TA called Celebrity. On 7/27, we received a refund of port charges and taxes. On 7/28, excursions were refunded. And on 8/5, the bulk of the cruise was refunded, minus the land tour.

So sorry to hear, hope he is better now. Where you overseas when this happened?

  5. So sorry that you caught COVID and couldn't travel! From your post, I assume you had insurance through Celebrity?

My husband and I just tested positive for COVID and we have to cancel our cruise on the Beyond, but we purchased insurance through our travel agent at *****. Have you heard anything about how difficult it is to get a refund from the TA's insurance provider?

This is also a cruise that planning began in 2019 on Princess that we switched to Celebrity on the new Beyond that we are heartsick over having to cancel.

Thank you to anyone who can advise me.

Thank you for your concern. Fortunately my husband was never sick....he chose to quarantine with me. My symptoms were very mild and only lasted a couple of day. I did not post whether we could cruise again or not in this current environment but will say we have b2b cruises in Europe mid-Oct. 1st one if the Holy Land followed by a TA back to Florida.

Hope you enjoy the Holy Land cruise, I know it will be fabulous! And enjoy your TA back to Florida! Best wishes for smooth sailing!!

Hi!  I sail out of the USA in a few months,  not out of Rome.  I haven't kept up with cases in Rome/Europe.  What has crossed my mind is since the Beyond will be coming over on it's Transatlantic, would that have an impact on cases.  ???   I have no idea.

I guess one 'comforting' fact is my family I'm traveling with just had it.  I was around them, definitely exposed, and did not get it.   My boyfriend,  the same for him, didn't get it.  So, those of us traveling together  will have recently had it or exposed for sure but didn't get it.  Perhaps we will all continue to have immunity/evade it???    You may be in the same scenario since you recently had it.   ???

I admit I am a bit more concerned now then I was this time last year preparing for my first post shutdown cruise.  That cruise, contact tracing had me concerned.  This Beyond cruise, I will be aware like I am in every day life and hope and pray we don't get it and/or get contact traced.  😉

I hope you and your family are fully recovered!

    Enjoy your Beyond cruise!  😃

    Thank you!

Wow, I am sorry about what you went through.  Thank you for posting.

We just returned (yesterday) from the Celebrity Flora with a 1 day pre-tour in Quito.  I was one of the few who realized (and confirmed with Celebrity) that despite Ecuador and the US not requiring testing, Celebrity does and if you test positive then you are in quarantine for 10 days.  That freaked us all out before the cruise.  We worked from home and got our own PCR tests the day before leaving just to be safe.  We masked and took precautions the flight legs down and were given a PCR test at our hotel that evening.  We passed that and then did a 7 hour city tour the next day with other passengers who didn't wear masks despite being told they should.  That didn't excite me because I knew we had an antigen test the next morning before heading to the ship.  We passed that and as we boarded the Flora the Captain told us we could be mask free.

Well that lasted about a day before an announcement was made that a passenger tested positive.  Masks began appearing.  A day or so later, another announcement and more masks.  By the end of the 7 day cruise people were coughing all over and I am convinced they didn't want to report to the medical center for fear of quarantine.  I am also convinced that most passengers do not know the risk of quarantine and that they are then risking everyone else on the ship if they aren't careful.

Before leaving the ship I asked the staff how many people were supposed to be on our ship and how many ended up on it.  We were supposed to have 92.  We ended up with 83.  I know of at least one who remained in Quito.

This morning (day after flying home), my wife and I tested positive for covid.

So be aware of this before you cruise in 2022.  We had a great trip, but the covid stress leading up to setting foot on the deck was more than I needed - even worse than how I feel as I type this with covid.

So sorry to hear you have COVID, I hope you and your husband don’t have a bad case of it. My husband and I returned from a cruise on the Allure and both tested positive. It’s not fun, but for us it was like having the flu. Good luck 👍

Thanks for all the reporting and information.   Now we're glad we cancelled our b2b out of Miami next April to a 10 day cruise r/t out of Bayonne on the Summit.   We live 45 minutes from Bayonne port.  We were on  the QM2 earlier this month and my husband got Covid.  I refused to leave him alone due to his age and severity of the covid.  We were isolated together in a balcony room for last 36 hours of cruise.  Then booted off at our home port in Brooklyn.   Our son picked us up and we drove straight to the ER of the hospital near our house.  I had a mild case, he is still recovering.

    Hope he recovers quickly!

@busymumofthree thanks for sharing your experience. Here's a link to mine from my experience in May. From what I know the CDC was not monitoring covid rates on ships sailing from Europe. We were told the ship had reached the 3% rate but I'm convinced it was higher than that.

So sorry to read of your horrible ordeal. Hope you and hubby are fully recovered. I am not sure if I read whether or not you would cruise again, but would you cruise again with Celebrity and in this current environment? Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I was told that they couldn’t action a refund until the cruise was completed. We then got our refund of the whole amount, cruise, air fares and transfers within a couple of days of completion. No trouble whatsoever.

Did you get sick on the ship or before you sailed? Thank you

I started cruising in a backwards way...suites, larger ones on Royal Caribbean.  We eventually switched to Celebrity and had a few cabins of family and friends and not everyone wanted to book suites.  I like to have us all in line with one another but the biggest thing was a separate restaurant. Sure, the suite guests didn't have to dine in Luminae but there definitely seemed like there would be instances it would be a pain to have suite guests and non-suite guests.  Well, I gave in and booked concierge cabins... I felt I needed something 'extra'.   Let me tell you, I spent so much time researching videos and cabin specs and square footage and measurements.  I honestly thought I wasn't going to be able to handle it.  😅   Well, it turns out I was ok.  It took some getting used to but I was fine.  So much so that I continued to book Concierge cabins and then the most recent we went to AquaClass and then said, AquaClass for now on.

However,  I am booked on the Beyond and I do not like the idea of the infinite veranda at all. Personal opinion.  I know I haven't experienced it and people love them but I love a true, real balcony so we booked suites.   I think the Retreat experience is a big draw on e-class as well.  I have a feeling that going back to suites is going to ruin me again.  😅

I fly first class and can't fly coach anymore.  I've been ruined with that for years.  I say I need it for the luggage allowance.  That is true but I like everything else that comes with it. 😉

Whatever anyone is happy choosing for their cruise is up to them.  We all like different things, have certain preferences and are happy with many things.  It's important to enjoy vacation, however we each see fit.  That's what's nice about having multiple choices when we are planning.

    🍹

We are also booked on the Beyond out of Rome. Do you have any worries/concerns with the number of COVID cases increasing? We just got off of the Allure of the Seas, there were 10 of us, all family, and unfortunately 7 of us came down with COVID. Wondering your opinion. Thank you!

  13. Thank you, Bella, for your attention to detail in writing your thread! Very much enjoyed it! Very much interested in the COVID protocols with Oceania. Did you have the insurance through Oceania or another carrier? Thinking about the Greek Isle cruise in September with them, but worried now with their protocols. Any opinion on this from anyone would be appreciated!
