As far as I can see all cruise ship will become a block of holiday flats with a top deck given over to a range of high street takeaways (KFC McD etc) and strewn with plastic boxes etc.

we went on a 3 night Fred Olsen mini cruise and the last night was a formal night.

This sounds very odd to me.
In order to charge VAT the vendor must supply an invoice showing the amount of VAT charged and their VAT registration number.
How does VAT work in the case of FO £10/day drinks scheme?
I have never been on a cruise where VAT has been mentioned.

Where do passengers who booked through SAGA fit in the boarding order?
-
Other ships we have been on a number of passengers are invited to dine at the captain's table, suffice to say we never have been invited.
On our recent first FO cruise (six nights on the Boudicca) we had an Officer join our table for both formal nights, the Chief Engineer and the Doctor. What do you talk to a Doctor about over dinner?
The officers provided the drinks, red & white plus brandy, I felt quite cheated as we were on the £10 drinks package!!!

You can read all about Acromas here http://www.acromas.com/
You can see that amongst other things they own all the various SAGA companies.

The Saganauts among you might have noticed that Saga Ruby is no longer a British registered ship and flys the Maltese ensign. I assume this is because Acromas which is Saga's parent company is registered in Malta.
Acromas bought Saga a few years back and had to borrow a lot of cash to do so, the idea being to sell off at a handsome profit at an oportune moment. Unfortunately the recession arived and stockmarket flotations stopped and the time to pay back the loan is fast approaching.
How all this is going to affect the quality of the Saga product remains to be seen.
We are booked on the Sydney to Los Angeles leg of Saga Ruby's 2011 world cruise.

Have recently returned from Saga Ruby cruise during which we were addressed by the Saga Travel Chief Executive who anounced that SAGA are ordering a new build ship to replace Saga Rose and that SAGA are working hard to convince the builders that they don't want a floating block of flats and the funel must be in the middle!!
The Ruby is currently in dry dock for a short refit. The internal changes include a complete revamp of the theatre, raking of the ballroom floor to improve viewing lines and some new carpeting.
Have booked booked Norway Fiords cruise for next year.
