Just returned from an 11 night Hawaii cruise on the Ecliise. Included in cruise price was the basic drinks package covering all beverages up to $9 per drink. Since I'm mostly a cabernet wine drinker and enjoy better quality wines I decided to upgrade to the premium package which covers drinks up to $15.  The first few nights I found some decent but not great and certainly not much of a variety of cabernets up to the limit included.  By the fifth night I found the MDR had run out of the Decoy and was trying to substitute the cheaper wines such as Reservado from Chile.  While its not a bad wine I didn't understand why the sommelier would not offer one of their better wines since they had such a limited selection  to choose from. Wait tines in the MDR were long one evening we waited 2 hours and 15 minutes for our entree to appear. When we questioned the waiter he said they were short staffed and kitchen could not keep up.  Maitre D was nowhere to be seen. I gave this cruise a rating of 3 out of 10, the best service I received was from my cabin steward.  This was the first sailing for the Eclipse since March of 2020 and clearly they were nowhere near ready to sail. Food quality was mediocre and was served warm most evenings.  Have done more than  a dozen Celebrity cruises and this was the worst of them all.

Gonna have to disagree with you. Been on Celebrity 8 times. Never had a bad experience.

Yes, we know that... ours was one of the old expiration dates that was extended and we, as well as luv4cruises, had an email exchange with eMed saying that the expiration date was indeed extended to 5/8/22... unlike another poster who said that she had the same one we do and when she called to take the test was told that it was expired.  luv4cruises was going to take their test this past week, so I wanted to find out if they were told theirs was expired.

    Gotcha.

145,000 out of how many?  I see you listed the numerator - what's the denominator?

Not quite sure what you mean.  That was simply the number of new cases for a day last week.  It’s trending down which is good.  95,000 new cases yesterday in this country.  I hope they drop the requirements as well, but I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon.

As far as counting cases, someone near me pointed out that with all of the at home tests (and especially the free ones being sent out by the govt.) the count of "cases" was way off. She said that she, her husband and children all had Covid, verified by at home tests. But, because no one needed to be hospitalized,  there was no official record of that anywhere.

Maybe but the cdc is pretty accurate.  It’s not way off.  Listen to the experts, not people that really are just speculating.

    Counting cases is certainly over.

Ok. Well I’m not going to get into a dumb argument about COVID.  I’m a nurse, and I trust the numbers, and while cases are down, 145,000 cases in one day does not indicate that it’s over.  Let’s all just do what we need to do individually, and not turn this into nonsense.  Everyone enjoy your cruises!

So much misinformation here to unpack.  1. You don’t need to lie at all and if you will be in an area where it’s not possible to social distance (such as airplane or cruise ship ) then it qualifies as a covered event. 2. Appointment availability is everywhere now and there is no wait anywhere. I checked 4 places in ft lauderdale for tomorrow and every place had every time slot available. If you haven’t noticed - Covid is pretty much over. Nobody is being overwhelmed and nobody is testing themselves unless they need to for travel.

If you want to take a chance with a doctor writing a note, that’s on you.  I’m just going to follow the celebrity guidelines and spend the $35 bucks for the optimum tests.  They work and it’s easy. You can do the day before.  Funny, people are telling you the truth, and you call it misinformation.

COVID is not over yet. That in itself is misinformation.

Does this indicate that it’s over?

Depends on the insurance (exposure or symptomatic) could be a possible requirement for the cost to be covered but why would anyone say for travel ? Just go get the test 2 day before your trip because you have a "headache" and you are good to go. That or you were exposed to your 3rd cousin Betty Ann who tested positive at a birthday party last week.

Because when you make the appointment on the app or the website, they ask you if it’s for travel.  I just know that last year when I went to Hawaii, they were charging.  Most people if they think they have COVID don’t go make appointments and have to wait a few days.  I’m just saying.  I’ve done the optimum tests and they are good. 69 for two tests so 35 a piece.  It’s worth it to me.

I think the point that may be missed here is if you go to your doctor and have her/him proctor the test, what proof is he going to be able to provide you with that is acceptable.  Last I looked handwritten test results are not accepted.

That is correct here in Virginia.

Again they are free if your testing for COVID exposure.  Not for travel related testing.

Lol I am making things difficult? I am trying to explore other options and make things easier for everyone. I have gone to Celebrity's website and have reviewed their guidelines and that is what I quoted in my initial post. That the test must be proctored by a medical professional. Why should I spend hundreds on emed tests when I have free ones sitting around and so does every other person who requested them from the govt. The issue is just finding your own proctor (as outlined by Celebrity) and having them oversee and document the result. Its looking to provide others with alternatives but feel free to keep shelling out hundreds for your emed tests and backup emed tests.

PS - Tests at walgreens and cvs are free and covered by most insurances.

Walgreens and cvs are free if your testing for

covid exposure.  Not for traveling purposes

The resistance is only to the emed tests that everyone seems to be praising. If a free covid test can be found and appts available at Walgreens/CVS, that seems to be the best option. I understand emed if you are in Europe for example and need a test 2 days beforehand and dont want to be scrambling in a foreign country to find one. In the US , the emed tests seems like a total rip off and racket. A family of 8 would need to spend 500 bucks on emed tests and then people are suggesting buying extras in case of faulty content. Just looking for a better option than that. Emed seems to be a last resort so not sure why its getting so much love on these boards. Free test with in person proctor seems exactly the same (celebrity even indicates it can be supervised by a medical professional) so will probably try that and let everyone know how it goes. Im sure it will be a non issue.

Also - the free covid tests shipped to all of us is the same exact product shipped to many schools, doctors offices and hospitals. If I bring a sealed box and test in front of them, its no different than them using one of their own.

Why are you making it so difficult?  Just go to celebrity’s website, and see what their guidelines are. It tells you what’s allowed and what isn’t.  I have used the emeds before , and never had a problem.  The tests at Walgreens and cvs are not free for travel related purposes.  You still have to pay for travel COVID tests.

Oh my....let's hope that in a few months, or whenever the time might come, none of us will be discussing any of this testing baloney, although I suppose some of it will be here to stay. The world keeps on changing. Then we can look wistfully back to the good old days I guess.

    It’s not baloney. It’s important.

I have no interest in ordering these kits from the cruise line, though admit it's a good back-up plan. Hoping to get the tests done at a local CVS, Urgent care center, or Walgreen, etc. and done.

I ordered the kits. Got them in three days. It has to be a proctored test.

Sorry if this was already asked When you buy a pkg of two - can that be for 2 separate people and when i check out should I created account with Optum or check out as a guest? Are these ok going through X-ray at airport as we will be flying in to visit friends for a few days b4 cruise.

Yes it’s for two people. Why wouldn’t they be ok to go thru security? It’s just a COVID test
