Need a little help with hotel/panning.  We disembark NCL Epic on December 1st, docking time is 6:00 am.  We would get off the boat as early as possible and plan to take the train to Rome.  We are planning a full day of site seeing with really just sleeping at our hotel, we will even leave in the morning before breakfast.  We would like to take the train to the airport as well.  We are a family of 4.  Does anyone have recommendations on where to stay.  We are looking for something economical, since we only plan on being there to sleep.  Close to the train stations would be great.  Easy walking distance to major sites, as this is our first time to Rome and want to get in as much as possible in the one day.

We always stay at the double tree in monti. 10 min walk to the colosseum, prob a 10 min walk from the train station too. not the old world charm you might get from some of the local hotels but very clean and a good breakfast too.

Fondaco dei Tedeschi is a high end department store next to the Rialto Bridge. The view of Venice from their rooftop is so good that they issue FREE tickets to take their elevator to the roof. You must have a ticket. They are available 21 days in advance, June 21 tickets available after 8:00 PM Eastern US time on May 30. Tickets go fast

thx, looks great. put it on my calendar to reserve

I am considering a Mediterranean cruise which sails out of Rome....... I have never been to Europe,  and will be cruising along.   I am a bit nervous about transportation to and from the port.    Will a language barrier be a problem?   Should I try to make transportation arrangements beforehand?    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Last year we did the Rome Greek islands and turkey cruise, it was awesome. we took "Rome Chauffer"" from port to airport $130. we used them three different times while we were in rome and they were very professional and punctual

What are the boarding times for cruises out of Venice (Ravenna)?

We have a July cruise and am trying to figure out transportation from Venice to the Cruise Port

did you decide what transpo you are going to use, working the same problem for a august cruise

  5. we did ship excursion (celebrity) to beach with drinks and lunch included. the coldest water I've ever been in and this was early July. someone said the ocean dropped way off just beyond beach. I would guess 20% of the people really got in. Once you got in and was there a bit is was ok but if you got out you didn't go back.

  6. little off topic, our trip down to the cruise ship on the sky tram. we shared car with couple in early 20's, the lady said it was crowded when they arrived in port so they decided it best to walk up. She said and I quote "Easily in the top five worst things I have ever done in my life!" she was so sincere you could tell she really meant it and it pained her to even think about it.

This is our first trip to Rome. We will be staying 3 days in Rome before our cruise in October. We were wondering what restaurants near the Termini that everyone would recommend. We are staying at the Hilton Doubletree Monti in that area. We would like to find some walkable places to eat. Preferably some traditional Italian places, not the tourist traps that I've been reading about. We are also interested in the best Gelato locations.

we stayed at this double tree in july, worked out well for us. short walk to all the sites except Vatican. we did taxi to Vatican and another from there to Spanish Steps. nfrom there walked our way back thru Trevi etc to hotel.  Sadly the last night we found our favorite restaurant and its a very short walk from hotel. La Fata Ignorante Rooftop Restaurant & Bar, its on the roof of IQ Hotel. I say we found it sadly our last night because I could have eaten there every night. our first night we were tired from traveling and just across the street from hotel is sidewalk restaurant,  not 5* by any means but very good lasagna etc. two entrees and a bottle of wine $25, it was a good end to long day.

I can't possibly imagine the reasoning behind doing a home self test, taking a photo of the results and then presenting it at boarding time? This logic defies all common sense!  Celebrity, at this point in the game do you really think someone who tests positive with no symptoms is going to refuse boarding??

we did ours July 1st, they had just dropped the test requirement to enter Italy, things have changed a lot since then

Where did you test in rome?

hotel room with the Abbot Binax test, logged in thru cell phone on wifi and they walk you thru it on video. it took 20 minutes each at the most. they then send your results thru emai and app. I took screen shot and showed that at check in

there are pharmacy's everywhere there that can probably do it but I wanted to make sure I wasted as little time as possible and liked the idea of just doing it from hotel

Of course not  this is all new to everyone so better to be safe than sorry.  I was recently on a cruise to Hawaii some guests were not even asked for proof of tests.

we just went out of Rome and it was more than a quick glance at my phone, there is no way he had time to read when the test was taken etc.

To jbdawg. If you did the AbbotBinax test in Rome what phone number did you use?

Does that Test brand  have an international toll free number or are you  charged expensive long distance rates?

I have never used one of those but we will be in Japan 3 days before a Cruise and will need to be tested before boarding our ship.

     Thank you.

I downloaded the app and connected on wifi, very easy to do the test and results to app (and email) quickly too. I didn't get a sim card so I screen shot both results and showed photo when I checked in, no problems at all

  12. we did  AbbotBinax recently. we were in Rome four days before cruise and didn't want to use Italian pharmacy. we did it from the comfort of our hotel room two days before sail date.

downloaded app and called in, they asked to see box and then walked us through test. had to prop phone up so test was visible for 15 minutes and then they were back and read results. sent results to app and we showed that at check in, would do again if out of country for sure

We will be in Rome in November and have some reward points we would like to use. We understand a chain hotel probably won’t give us the full Rome experience but would like to save a little cash. Does anyone have any experience with the Doubletree Hilton Rome Monti? Any input on location etc is greatly appreciated.

stayed there june 30th till july 4th. nice hotel, roof top lounge was nice place to have a drink in the evening. short walk to colosseum. we took cab to Vatican less than $20  then from there ~$8 to trevi fountain and worked the sites from there walking back to hotel. very easy and lots to see along the way.  lots of restaurants close by, our fav is root top couple of blocks away

  14. was there a couple of weeks ago and yes there were people in short shorts,  saw some skimpy tops also.

for the most part people followed the rules wearing long shorts/pants and dresses/capris  that cover the knee
