  1. Thanks everyone! We'll be with our kids, 14 and 16, so I'm afraid walking tours and art museums probably won't cut it. ;)

However it's good to know that it's a walkable town- cost of a resort would be $240 for the four of us, so I'm questioning if that's worth it. I have a must-get-back-to-the-ship paranoia (left over from our very first cruise when a couple was left behind in Mexico, screaming on the dock, and it scarred me for life), so for a 2pm sailaway, I'd probably need to leave wherever we were at 12:30, even if it was a 10 minute walk. (Seriously paranoid!)

I think the town/shopping might be a good plan!

I took my kids to the Queen's staircase because it was a good teaching opportunity. You look at that tall staircase and explain how it was carved by hand out of stone by slaves. They read about the shame of slavery but this puts a physical view for them. The fort is at the top and has some great views.

  2. Would she have a friend who could afford 4th person rate and go with. My kids have done a longer cruise doing school year but had each other to hang with. One of their favorite cruises. On a bad note 2/3 did not keep up with school work, it took a month for them to catch up. Some kids are good about getting work done, mine not so much. Also since we had to fly to Florida I copied the pages from their school books they would need so we could leave those heavy weights at home.

  3. I think she has a right to chose not to cruise and I think any refund should have gone back to the parents. Zika is not in Florida yet but the CDC is worried about Zika coming to almost all of the southern US areas. I am older and feel for those who are trying to or are already pregnant. I remember praying for healthy children and can't imagine the parents pain when they find out their child may be born deformed.

  4. Been in Cocoa Beach 3+ years. Beach condo. Most condos have a first right of refusal clause. You need to start in a lesser unit and buy your way up.

We got lucky and got a 3 bedroom corner after just one year.

    Absolutely love it

This is exactly the plan we have in about 10-15yrs. I would really encourage you to think of your kids education. Also going thru school with a core group of friends is really nice. Only you can decide what is best for your family.

Another option we're looking at is a place in Tenn or the Carolinas so we could drive down in a day or two.

  5. Thanks Gambee for such a great review. We doing our first Royal cruise on the Oasis in October and you've given us great information. Thanks to you I don't think 7 days will be enough.

Both my DH and I wish we knew someone we could introduce you to. Your wonderful and deserve much happiness in your life. Thank your Mom for raising such a wonderful human being.

  6. Also from Minnesota and due to work and airfare we don't get to cruise very often. My DH is also a small town doctor and can't take many days off in a row. We will never move up the C&A charts until after he retires. So when we do get to cruise we love to treat ourselves with suites. Its nice after working hard for 2-3years to go big (at least for us). We always go coach, eat at small local restaurants, shop Walmart, and go to the afternoon movies (when we go).

One of the reason we're going on RC for the first time was the lack of perks on Carnival for suites. I don't like big crowds and RC suite lounge/costal kitchen seems ideal for me when I need to get away from over stimulation. At the same time I get to see the largest ship at sea.

  7. Until DH retires we have to stay in the 7-9day range of cruises. Plan as of now is to book one for early 2018 out of S.California to Mexico. We've never cruised from the west coast and this will give us a chance for a short visit with family before cruise. The first long cruise with be our first year of retirement, either a Panama canal or Alaska with land cruise. In the meantime we can hopefully get a 7 day every year or two until he retires.
