  1. Thanks for the update. I wonder why Silversea was so secretive about it? Maybe they didn't want to compete with Royal Caribbean Groups press later in the month for Icon? It is mostly odd that they would wait 6 months for such a low key ceremony in Ft Lauderdale, and not just have done it in Trieste, Italy when the ship first came out.
  2. Thank you, saw Silversea's press release: https://www.silversea.com/about-silversea/press-releases/2024/january/silversea-officially-names-silver-nova.html Talk about low key for not only a new innovative class of ship, but also the 30th Anniversary! Someone in their PR and marketing really dropped the ball on this one. Missed opportunity.
  3. I'm guessing those disembarking in Fort Lauderdale tomorrow haven't heard any updates for a Jan 4 naming ceremony. Guess Nova will be an unchristened ship for a bit longer, or in a rare chance Silversea is doing away with the maritime tradition.
  4. Yes that is the usual superstition. These days it has usually been an opportunity for a cruise line to get some added publicity, either by making a new corporate partnership, or recognize someone with a charitable/destination related connection to carry out the ceremony. Past Silversea naming ceremonies: Silver Cloud: unknown? Silver Wind: unknown? Silver Shadow: Janet Burke(Silversea VP) Silver Whisper: Marzia Lefebvre D'Ovidio (chairmans wife) Silver Spirit: Silvia Lefebvre D'Ovidio (chairmans sister) Silver Muse: Costanza Lefebvre d'Ovidio (chairmans daughter) Silver Moon: Gaia Gaja (Italian winemaker) Silver Dawn: Nilou Motamed (Food & Travel writer/personality ) Silver Origin: Johanna Carrión (Galápagos conservationist) Silver Endeavor: Felicity Aston (British adventurer/climate scientist) Silver Nova: ????
  5. The Silver Nova is almost approaching 6 months in service, so has anyone seen any recent mention of a naming ceremony or godparent? I know some ships have been delaying the naming ceremonies either to be in their homeport or in an iconic backdrop like Antarctica. There was a brief mention in one article in August when the ship first came out: "Silversea Cruises' Silver Nova embarked Monday on its maiden voyage from Venice (Fusina), with the ship's naming festivities set for Jan. 4 at Port Everglades", but have yet to see any recent press on this, or who would be conducting the ceremony.
  6. Starting a new thread now that the new ships name (former Global Dream) has officially been announced as the Disney Adventure. Interesting to see in the updated rendering from Destination D23 panel, the middle funnels are no longer shown.
  7. With the Seabourn expedition dress code understandably more casual than the rest of the fleet for dinners, does this stay consistent on some of the Pursuit and Venture's non-expedition cruises in the Caribbean and Europe, or do they have formal nights on these cruises?
  8. Being a non-expedition cruise, but still on an expedition ship, what is the dress codes for each of the nights?
  9. Although for German speaking passengers, TUI Cruises(Co-owned by Royal Caribbean Group) finally revealed their new class of ships being built at Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. https://www.meinschiff.com/das-achte-schiff/freiraum
  10. Still no sailings showing on the Seabourn website. I'm booked on one of them, still showing up when I sign into my account, hopefully just a website glitch and not a delay.
  11. Seabourn had added additional cruises starting this summer on the Seabourn Pursuit, but now I can't find any of them listed on the Seabourn website. The first cruise listed is now the October 10th, 14-Day Wild Guianas To The Amazon Basin. I can't imagine they are all sold out, are they just updating the website or is the Seabourn Pursuit delayed again? Eight-day “Tyrrhenian Isles & France” (August 12-20, 2023) Seven-day “Charm of Italy, France & Spain” (August 20-27, 2023) Seven-day “Spanish & French Allure” (August 27-September 3, 2023) Seven-day “Allure of Italy & France” (September 3-10, 2023) Seven-day “Gems of Iberia” (September 10-17, 2023) 12-day “Atlantic Autumn” (September 17-29, 2023) 10-day “Atlantic Sunrises” (September 30-October 10, 2023)
  12. From Cruise Industry News:
  13. Another video, and photo with funnel installed: (photo credit @omasopdeboot)
  14. Some photos from around the web of the float out yesterday of the Silver Nova form the building shed at Meyer Werft:
  15. Aside from a new "midsection" somewhere in the layout, I wonder if Viking will be changing any venues to the new ships. The Aula on the Viking Octantis is amazing, and quite a contrast to the somewhat 1990s cruise ship design layout of the ocean fleets theaters. Although the window views aren't possible, adopting a similar tiered seating, better sightlines, and overall design aesthetic would be an improvement.
  16. Does anyone know where the Silver Nova will be christened?
  17. Visual comparison of original Crystal design before, and after Silversea refit:
  18. Video of the Silver Nova funnel arriving to the shipyard
  19. I believe they will be "stretching" the current design by about 36 feet, so about the width of 4 cabin modules. Similar to what they did on the Edge Class with the third ship Celebrity Beyond(although that was 2x 33 foot sections), gained cabins and some new public venues. So could possibly see an enlarged main pool deck and an enlarged Torshavn, or new venue.
  20. Has anyone heard anymore information about the next generation of enlarged ocean ships? According to the Cruise Critic article last year with a presentation by Torstein: "Chairman and Founder Torstein Hagen said the line's unnamed ocean ships (internally called Ship 11 and Ship 12) will run on hydrogen and that to accommodate the fuel, these new ships will be a bit longer and carry more guests than their fleetmates. The ships will be 11 meters longer, and while he didn't say how many more guests could sail, he did say the ships would have no more than 25 additional cabins, and the passenger count would still be less than 1,000. " So that puts the next generation ships around 238 m(780 ft) and 490 cabins. So will it be the Viking Saturn (2023), then the larger 11 & 12? Viking Star Viking Sea Viking Sky Viking Sun (former) Viking Orion Viking Jupiter Viking Venus Viking Mars Viking Neptune Viking Saturn (2023) unnamed (2024) *First enlarged?* unnamed (2025)
  21. It's been reported the ship will be floated out in the next month. The ship is already technically floating in the Meyer Werft building shed. A few photos seen across social media, taken between December and last month:
  22. Additional official news from Seatrade: https://www.seatrade-cruise.com/environmental-health/viking-ends-pre-cruise-covid-test-mandate-unless-destination-requires-it I do feel bad the crew are still required to wear masks, they could definitely use a break, but understand it helps prevent crew sickness and shortages.
